That’s a real beauty mate. I got my USA Custom a few weeks ago. I waited about 30 years to get mine, not because of anything other than other higher priorities, but so pleased to get the great Gretsch Sound. They are unique drums.

Ahhh, man! Sweet. It’s either this or that Sonor Vintage Rock kit you’ve shown. Help me Obe Wan.
@KillerDrumsTV2 жыл бұрын
You can't go wrong with either really. As one method of deciding: if you're playing bigger venues go the Sonor, and the broadkaster for room that appreciate all the resonanting gretsch love at the drummers seat. It's kinda a win win. Regards tony

I was lucky enough to buy a Broadkaster from Drummer's Dream in Australia 2021. Bomber Kit, 24x14 kick, 13x9, 16x16 toms, 14x6.5 snare. Vintage specs, Anniversary Sparkle Such a beautiful kit. PS. I watched you play New years Eve with Jimmy. So cool, i cant imagine how that must feel

Appreciate your great series of videos on retro drums 👍 It would be cool for you to demo the Canopus Neo Vintage M2
@KillerDrumsTV2 жыл бұрын
Hey Joe, I'll contact Canopus and see who's their Australian supplier is. Sometimes we can track a kit down to a willing shop or player who doesn't mind us making a film. Thanks for the request. Kind regards Tony M

Love my Broadkasters! Mine are c. 2000, and they have the square badge. Bass drum reso head has the offset logo. Are mine defective? 😮 As soon as I heard the boom of the kick, I was in love! I have a 5-lug rack tom, too. 8 lugs on my floor tom, 10 on my bass drum. I have an import Gretsch maple snare, also with 10.

Yeah the Broadkasters are a lot of love for the money.

That Brooklyn snare, sounds better than a lot of steel snares, which can sometimes be a bit harsh. Good value snare ,at that price..

Drums sound great! What mic set up are you using? Awesome video!
@KillerDrumsTV Жыл бұрын
Hey Nathaniel, thanks for the kind words. I've worked in many studios in my time, so I have used almost everything. My problem was that the recordings often don't sound the way a drum, or my drums sound like. So I went on an exploration for a few years to find mics that translate a drums tone and vibe best. I A/B'ed dozens on mics, only to find that I need great mic pres first, so we use Audient pres outside of the studio. Inside we have Phoenix, Avalon, Buzz Audio, Universal Audio and Summit Audio. In both cases (live and studio) the mics are the same: *Royer R10 matched pair ribbons on over heads *Earthworks DM20 on top of snare *Warm Audio W47 as room/kick Now we are not sound engineers, so we are still working to improve the technical execution side of things, but we 100% know what does and doesn't work, so we just keep heading in that direction. In the studio we also use: *Hi hats - Royer R10 and/or Audix ADX51 condenser *Small toms - Earthworks DM20 or Heil PR25's *floor toms - Audix D4's and/or D6 for more low end and occasionally earthworks *snare bottom - beyer TG 150 *kick & room - Audix D6, and/or Heil PR40, and/or Lewitt DTP640 REX, and/or Warm Audio 47 Fet, and/or Aventone cv12 BLA, and/or Violet amethyst vintage, and/or Beyer TG D71c plate, and lastly a DIY Sub kick (see video of the making coming). I match the mic to the drum, rather than confirming the drum to the mic. FYI: We have no financial interest or beneficiary in any of the products that we use at present. So our choice is simply our ears choosing for us. Have a great day! Tony

You videos are great. Please keep them coming. I have recently considered getting a better drum set. I have a 90’s or so used maple m series that is not the sound I am seeking in my coconut. I have been surfing the web trying to track down the right one for me. I was seeking that vintage ludwig bonham sound. I thought I had narrowed my search down to a Ludwig neusonic probeat Pearl president deluxe reissue Ludwig centennial zep kit Ludwig zep vistalite Ludwig classic maple pro beat. Then I heard the Gretch broadcaster in your video and it has caused me to question my entire foundation. I can’t agree with you guys more that this is an amazing look and sound. Unparalleled. A Beautiful sounding instrument. This might be THE sound. Now I have to go try one somewhere. If I end up getting a broadcaster I am going to blame it on you two. My wife hates you guys and she doesn’t even realize it yet. If she kicks me out of the house for buying one can I sleep on that couch in the video? Of the sets I mentioned before would you vouch for the neusonic probeat over the pearl president sound wise? The drum stores by me are out of stock of both. If you played some zep on the gretch broadcaster would time stop? Could you make a video of some zep on the gretch broadcaster?

Joshua, thats the comment of the year... so funny. I'm glad these films are helping people hear and decide what to buy from their own ears. As far as the list you popped up, can I say, I have about 30 kits atm, all rare, pro and high end, usually I swap a kit out every few weeks, but I've had the Ludwig neusonic in for six months now, I think it's the cherry/maple blend that I'm really loving, not just because it's different but because it give me back more than I give it. You won't be disappointed with the sound of the broadcaster, but for bang for buck the neusonic is a ride.
