I was lucky enough to stumble onto a first generation copy (2014, cat's eye's and three Super Hilotrons). That was in 2019 and I was not aware of where Gretsch Electromatics were at that time. I was immediately surprised at the guitar's build quality, even featuring Grover tuners. And when I started playing around with the unique three pickup switching configuration, I knew I was taking the guitar home. I've played Gretsch on and off since 1968, and this is easily equal to the best of them. I do appreciate your review.

That guitar is gorgeous! I looked it up and there's an orange stain version that i love cause you can see the grain! My question if anyone reads this is can a pair of PAF pups be fitted on to this (just in case i get the itch for a change down the line)?

@@EJBGuitar hey mate... Got myself one of these beauties and have serious tuning issues with the g string.. I'm curious what work, specifically, you did on the nut to improve the tuning. I can easily replace the tuners, but just curious on how youfixed the nut. Cheers
@EJBGuitar4 жыл бұрын
@@dannyshannon Hey Danny...I just (very slightly) filed the angle of the slot in the nut to follow the angle of the string to the tuner, without changing the slot on the fretboard side...you want that side to stay unchanged. Then I used really small grit sandpaper to polish the slot smooth. It’s very easy to ruin the nut if you haven’t done much “nut work” before (!!) so if you aren’t sure take it to a luthier. The D may need it too, as the D and G strings have the most angle. Hope that makes sense and helps.

Stewmac.com has several roller bridges in varying prices...I’d check there for the types and brands, then look at Reverb.com and eBay to see if you could find whichever one(s) you like at a lower price.

Hi, Eric! I love your videos. After seeing this one, I'm not sure which guitar to buy to play rhythm guitar in a rock'n'roll band, an Epiphone Casino or a Gretsch. What would you do please? Thanks in advance!!!

Thanks! Epiphone is making some pretty decent guitars these days, but I think for the money it’s pretty hard to beat the Gretsch’s in that price range.

Not really...I think that Gretsch case is just their “generic” fits all answer! I use a Mono acoustic gig bag whenever I take it anywhere.

Hey Eric, great review...what type are those tuners? The stock tuners are pretty bad! I may go TV Jones pickups too, but I gotta get some miles on her first...I am really enjoying this Gretsch, my first. Thanks!
@EJBGuitar4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Tuners are Graphtech Ratio tuners...(each one has its own gear ratio best suited to each individual string)...note that the holes needed to be enlarged in order to fit them though.

Nice playing, your original song rocks. I can hear Satriani influences. As for the guitar, love it - how would you compare these pickups to the Broad Trons on the new version? Thanks
@EJBGuitar5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! I haven’t heard the new pickups on the new version so I wouldn’t know what to say! The pickups in mine (Super HiLo Trons) seem to be real low output...like to the point where I have to adjust settings compared to other guitars more than usual. Maybe the Broadtrons have more output?

Eric you are a very creative artist and fabulous guitarist! That is a great looking guitar! I am thinking of getting one of those 5622's (I like the orange color i saw recently). I would probably would do the kind of upgrades you did, plus maybe change to TV Jones pickups. Or don't you think changing the stock pickups to the TV Jones would make much of a difference in the sound/tone? Anyway, very informative and demo. Thank you.
@EJBGuitar5 жыл бұрын
Thank you SO much for those kind words! I too really like the orange color...probably more than the Georgia Green in hindsight! Honestly, the TV Jones might get you closer to that “Gretsch sound”...the stock pickups sound really great, but if you want a more authentic Gretsch sound you might want to swap them out. Let me know when you get one!
@dowaliby15 жыл бұрын
You are most welcome! You have influenced and helped me tremendously! I have ordered one from my favorite music dealer (currently out of stock). The dealer's luthier will install the upgraded locking tuners, along with a Schaller (or comparable) roller bridge and the TV Jones pickups. Also, the guitar will be PLEK'D and the nut cut just right. I will probably add the Vibramate, as well. I am super excited about this because I have felt a great affinity towards these particular guitars ever since I first saw one and played it. It won't be cheap, but I think well worth it. My feeling is that I'll end up with a guitar that's comparable to a higher end Gretch for roughly half the cost.

How do you adjust the truss rod if its off? Not sure if its the action or what but I get a buzz on the high notes .
@EJBGuitar4 жыл бұрын
The truss rod on this is like any other truss rod. You got to find out where the buzz is coming from...could be strings, could be something loose on the bridge, etc. - if it’s true string buzz, then got to figure out what needs to be adjusted - the neck, the bridge, a high fret, etc. Hard for me to say without seeing it.
