I’m new to Gretsch, but I’m loving my non-Bibsby Streamliner, yet am upgrading to a Electromatic to get the Filt’Ron pickups and a Bigsby. I appreciate your review as it has really helped me feel more secure in my choices as I’ve identifed the sound differences also. Thanks guys!

Nothing bad here although there is an evident difference 😊

I have an older orange-stained Gretsch 5420t (w/humpblock inlays) which I have been customizing with gold hardware, gold pick guard and a TRU-ARC rocking bar bridge. It’s a beautiful guitar and close to the look of Duane Eddy’s first 6120 🎉Gretsch. It plays well and sounds awesome, as is, with the stock Blacktop Filtertrons. So, all in thus far for less than $1K makes me very happy! Even if I wanted to splurge $3500+ for a 6120 Duane Eddy Signature, I’m not sure I would 🤔.

I really love Gretsch's Eddie Cochran model with a P90 in the neck and DeArmond in the bridge very cool guitar

I hate to say Gretsch needs more models lol but they need something between electromatic and pro. Maybe an electromatic with TV Jones pick ups and upcharge a hundred bucks or something the jump in price to pro is too big. They need a 1100 price model with upgraded features on an electromatic

Not a bad idea! Maybe a limited run!

Nice vid. I have a lefty 5420 and for me the pro’s are the neck profile suits me, very comfortable standing and seated, especially standing it has lovely balance, and looks to die for. Major con has been tuning stability, it needs to be put out of the case and stabilised at venues/rehearsals straight away and I sawed half the nut width off and widened the nut slots slightly which helped enormously. The neck pup is a bit nondescript for me and the bigsby has a click I have not addressed yet, thinking of a softer spring too. Overall it is one of my fav guitars to play, and is a definite keeper. For the price, I think the 5420 is great value. ;))

Although I could buy an electromatic and just upgrade the pickups if necessary the black top filtertrons are good I have a 5230t

@@ProjectMusicSW My Dad has a streamliner in mint condition but second hand which has clearly been modified because the switch is the wrong way around! I haven't studied it (we don't live nearby) but I wonder if the previous owner put filtertrons in it...He said he's not getting on with it and he's going to give it to me 🤞

I liked the 5420 for the sound and price.

Hello and thank you for the video! What are the differences between the Streamliner and the Electromatic? It is a huge difference! I loved the Electromatic. Its clarity makes it so nice.

Thanks! The main difference is the pickups. The Streamliner has Humbuckers that look like filtertrons. The Electromatic has filtertron pickups which have an open sound and great clarity. Feel wise the Electromatic is a little more precise I guess. PM
