Great to see him with Gretsch. When it comes to Ludwig and Gretsch, for me, Gretsch wins every time.

I like me some Gretsch, but I like Ludwig even more. Jason should have never left Ludwig.

I just bought a broadkaster kit and though it sounds and looks great it's ripe with engineering and workmanship flaws. The claws on the bass drum are bent to sharply and they dig into the wood hoops leaving nasty marks. The leg mounts on the floor tom aren't long enough so the legs don't clear the counter hoops, so they rub together. There is a gap in the seam of the wood plys in my 12" tom...not enough glue, and the tone controls rattle when played. I thought DW was supposed to fix these types of issues. Apparently not. I bought a Brooklyn kit when they first came out and the shell on the 12" tom was out of round and the 130th anniversary snare drum had crooked lugs. Gretsch is no where close to the quality of the China made Yamaha drums. Not even close.

Ron Hotchkiss Interesting, and a bit disturbing as I am considering a USA Custom. Perhaps SQ2 is the answer

nightfallfade I finally got the bugs fixed. I bent the legs on the floor tom slightly so they don't vibrate against the counter hoops (keep in mind my kit is pure vintage retro) you can order modern mounts. And I put the 12" tom in a snare stand, sounds better anyway and doesn't wobble. And I removed the felts inside the bass drum to get a more open sound. Kit sounds great. The problem with mine is the kit is pure vintage build, so it's got 1960 parts on it. However, Gretsch is notorious for issues, by reading the drum forums but people are willing to fix them for the unique sound. I love the sound of the kit now, but still Yamaha, even the ones made in china are by far better built, sound Fantastic and are more user friendly. But I'm doing some stuff local this summer which is basically music made with gretsch. The sound isn't better, but it's gretsch vibe that's very cool If you want a USA kit just look it over very good if you're buying from a drum shop and you'll be fine. If ordering one for delivery, good luck!

Ron Hotchkiss Thanks for that. I've been used to Japan-built Tama and Yamaha for the last 13 years and the quality has been spot on, so just a bit nervous about something different, but I just fancy a change. I'll keep researching

nightfallfade they have a different sound that works. I'll have a blast with them this summer. By the way I own 3 Yamaha kits, club custom, recording custom, and a Phoenix (now sitting in church) because they are too heavy. My clubs and RCs have 18 inch kick, and I've gotten use to them. So user friendly

I'm after a different sound to my Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute certainly. A maple SQ2, a USA Custom or possibly a Tama Star maple is the shortlist

Gretsch, seriously. It seems most of these videos are shot in a studio. HOW can the sound be so bad? 3 (!!) microphones would be all thats needed. Even 1 would be better. Like two SM57.... jeeeezuz.

Hi Mattias, the Unboxing videos are meant to be such. Non invasive and off the cuff. Shot with just one camera getting our artists reaction as they see their kit for the first time. 😎

Pearls shells are great but those awful mounts and the tube holders are so annoying. Why not make it a universal joint
