I love how cute Fairy is in her Pink outfit. Ruby's an adorable companion, you must have had a ton of fun, dog walks are the funnest! Except when you're dragged!! She works hard/she plays hard!

Good she finally was lured back with the chicken treats! Well, Miss Fairy, I bet you dreamt of squirrels and your woodland chase on the sofa. Boring girl, never ever!!! Glad Mum is ok and didn't fall.

I commented a few weeks ago but it bears repeating..I don't know how your video's popped up on my feed but the 1st video I saw was Fairy running on the beach and it put a big smile on my face. I'm more of a cat person myself but I've been keeping up with ya'll on your adventures since then. Something about seeing well cared for animals having fun with their human friends makes me feel better and makes me smile, no matter what is going on in my day. The fact that Fairy is a rescue pet makes things even better so thanks to both. Please give Fairy a little scratch on her favorite spot for me as a Thank You. And Thank You too for making these videos. Cheers! Even though Fairy didn't pay much attention to Ruby, she looked like she was having a lot of fun as well. Happy dogs! Very cool walking trail too.

I also use a martingale collar on all my dogs. With a harness lead you are trying to control a dog at their strongest point & I have never used them. Another collar that might be easier on Fairy's neck (b/c she may prefer to choke rather than leave off chasing the prey) is a collar that has a strap that goes over the nose---it's called a Halti & what it does is turns the dog's head to the side & they sort of have to turn around. I had great success with it with a dog who pulled no matter what I did, & it's not tight or restrictive or anything like that. It should, however be used with a regular collar as it can slip when pulled backwards. Glad that you were not hurt & that no squirrels (I LOVE the way you say it!) were harmed in the making of that video.

Ah, pretty in pink, strong, determined and fast as heck, and NAUGHTY today. What a girl! Those big brown eyes showed zero acknowledgement of any mis-behaviour - except the sleeping with eyes open part. Hope your knee is okay, Lucie, and thanks for taking us with you. (And Fairy, be good to you mom!). Cheers!

Control the head and you control the dog.Maybe a martingale type collar would keep you out of the weeds.Harnesses aren't great for larger dogs in my opinion and I never used them on my GSDs.If that park was full of rats little Ruby would have been doing the same thing lol.❤😂

Theres almost zero chance of Fairy ever catching a squirrel. Squirrels are smart and adaptable and can run up trees in a split second at the first sign of a big pink-clad barking Fairy LOL This was all great fun and enormously entertaining and no threat to squirrels My lurcher loved scattering crows and squirrels and gulls only to then have the indignity of being tantalizingly scolded by them, from just a little too far up out of reach. No animal ever harmed, if Fairy did catch up with one she'd probably not attack it anyway, especially since she has seen you cuddling rats and knows they arent food. She isnt hungry, so I doubt very much she would kill- its the running after them she likes

Dogs can be very picky on choosing their friends. Just because Fairy gets along with Ruby does not prove that she will accept all other small or even large dogs as her friends.

I wear a belt type harness when I walk my two huge pit bulls. The leash is connected to the belt and your own weight acts as a counter to when the dogs act up. Bought it on Amazon. Adjustable for different sized waists.

Try a front connection harness. I use the Balance Harness from Blue-9 and it is adjustable at all points (perfect for a hard to fit long dog like mine) and a front connection gives you more control and the ability to redirect a distracted dog.

You might try a harness with D rings on top and on breast strap then attaching a double leash attaching one clip on top and second clip to chest ring. I find I can turn dog’s direction quickly if it lunges forward.

Use a prong collar. When fitted properly it is NOT inhuman. An E-collar is a good tool as well. Shocking not required, the vibrate mode works just as well. It would help if you “arrest” the unwanted behavior before it gets 2 seconds old. This unwanted behavior will continue to spiral out of control if you do not act as pack leader and instill rules, boundaries, and limitations. Watch some of Cesar Milan’s series of Dog Whisperer. His knowledge is invaluable. We really want to see Fairy thrive, but you both must be safe too!

Our dog weighs about 40Kg. A split lead helps controls his pulling. But if you don’t have a fair amount of upper body strength even with a split lead he can you all over. I would recommend a split lead, working on your upper body strength and using a two handed grip at all times when walking Fairey.

You don't need to avoid the woods your dog clearly needs more training and more appropriate equipment. First use a buckle collar high up on her neck, this will give you more control. Second work seriously on her recall, this is a lifesaving issue, I would add a whistle command to your recall as well as the standard verbal. Third, don't run after your dog screaming etc., this raises the arousal of the situation turning it into a game. I recently switched to a Herm Sprenger prong collar the clip type, not the martingale one, it's been a complete game changer, I have two very high prey drive dogs, a Belgian Malinois and a German Shorthaired Pointer. Two weeks ago, I was badly injured when both dogs instantly took off after something, I never saw loading nor the object of their prey drive. I'm not being rude; this is a serious situation and I'm a to the point blunt person. The Herm Sprenger Black Stainless Steel Prong Collar with Quick Release Buckle 2.25mm x 16in Small, is the one I got. I also bought rubber tips for it. You can get a cover if you are worried about what passerby haters might say. Prong collars are extremely misunderstood because of their looks and allot of the comments are politically motivated, yes, they can be cruel if used, by a cruel person or as a punitive form of punishment, that said anything can be used in a cruel way while working with dogs. Prong collars will often have a very calming effect on a dog as it imitates the mother dog's teeth when they were puppies. Prong collars will also give an instant correction if your dog without warning takes off after a prey object and you cannot manage a correction.

How thick is the fur on your dogs' necks? The thing with greyhounds is that they have very short fur and what I call old-lady skin---very thin and fragile. Even a playful tussle with body part--neck/shoulder landing in another dog's open mouth can cause a horrendous rip in a greyhound's skin. I've seen it happen before. That's one reason the use of a prong collar is discouraged for greyhounds.
@cherylmillard206711 ай бұрын
My German Shorthaired Pointer has an extremely thin single coated hair. As I mentioned I bought rubber tips for the prongs, a person could also in addition to the proper sized tips, buy a size up to put over the first rubber tip for added safety when using with a greyhound. @@SLClark-g5s

@user-dt7pt7iw7g her fur rubs off her neck with a normal collar so no way I’d use one of those collars don’t worry
@cherylmillard206711 ай бұрын
Why not give it a try? I feel you're adverse to trying a prong collar to rectify your situation. It didn't rub the fur on my German Shorthaired Pointer and he's very thin coated, you don't keep it on all day either, only use it when walking in problematic areas. Amazon has a great return policy if it doesn't work out. @@Fairythegreyhound

A prong collar for a greyhound? That's insane .they are a barbaric tool . A greyhounds skin is extremely thin and would puncture the flesh. Please don't ever get a greyhound. You clearly know nothing about this breed. A Martindale collar is the collar of choice for greyhounds as when out walking on the street, they do not pull at all. Fairy is very excited here in the woods with squirrels everywhere. When she is on the beach her recall is pretty good. r@@cherylmillard2067
