Thank for sharing Fairy's story. Racing is cruel. The dogs live in cages, are often starved, and they do get injured. They are often considered disposable commodities, and are not respected as the sensitive and kind dogs that they are. I've had 7, and each one was so special. Most people don't know the back story of geyhounds, so again, thank you for sharing Fairy's story.

Yes, I agree with you. I rescued 2 greys from the track. Not many people are aware of the horrific lives greys live while racing. Animal abuse laws do not apply to greys because, as you say, they are considered "commodities" & not dogs. Most racing is government subsidized, so vote against government funding of the racing industry when you have the chance. Thank you for rescuing your 7.

Man that is so sad about what happens to the dogs. For some reason I thought they would be treated really really well

I agree completely with your feelings about animals, it is not possible to spoil them enough. We do the same with our 2 dogs. In fact my wife just purchased a twin size bed so our male could sleep in our room, since he is now mature enough to not need to sleep in his crate. He does love his crate, and goes into his crate first, as he has not yet got into the routine of sleeping on his bed

My siblings and I were raised by parents who taught us to respect and care for all animals. My mother always preferred large breeds so as I was growing up, we had German Shepherds and Collies……all of our dogs were treated as family members and were spoiled….I am neither a fan of greyhound racing, horse racing or animals kept in captivity for human entertainment. Fairy should be treated well because she deserves it. All animals should be treated well.🐾💫⚡️✨

We only muzzled our beautiful girl a couple of times after we got her she hated the things. She lived a long happy life with us and I still miss her every day. We lasted 9 months with out one. We have another different but in some ways the same. They get in to your heart these beautiful doggies. So much power and grace with a bit of nutbar thrown in. Spoil her...... what rubbish She's part of the family. More love the better.

The first of these I watched was her on the beach. I've watched that one a few times. I love watching her run. She is happy, really happy, and a bit of a show off "look at me run" and zooms by and gone again. That always makes me smile. I also see your comments about how rescue dogs should be treated and how you treat her and that makes me smile. Rescue is the best breed of dog. No matter what kind or color or shape or size, that breed is my favorite. Have a great day with your pup and a long and happy life.

Thank you, Lucie, for the excellent backstory on Fairy. You're a teacher? Makes sense (me, too, formerly - since I was so busy & then so poor after serious bus accident injuries, I turned to a frmr police dog trainer for walking/ help, back in Hong Kong) . I also gave my rescued dog EVERYTHING I could - he'd already suffered a LOT at human hands - he DESERVED every good thing! (I ALSO was well aware of any bad behaviours of his, and took responsibility to address them - which, sadly, many pet owners don't [as they don't with their children].) "God" descended to Earth = "dog" - THE most loyal, loving, non-judgemental, playful, innocent, accepting/ forgiving, "in the moment", joyful, protective beings, ever. We are BLESSED to have them. CHEERS, from rainy/ snowy Canada! (Hello & love to Fairy, you & family, too!) PS - Wow - good to see your subs growing! Congrats!

Thank you for your comments, yes I am a teacher. I love taking Fairy to work with me, she is never left on her own
@kgrant318411 ай бұрын
I initially left my guy on his own - was teaching at a tertiary institution, and he was also getting multiple walks a day - from me, in the morning, then TWO walks from the rescue person I'd got him from, than TWO more walks after I got home from work (was only gone for ~ 5 hours, for uni teaching_). THEN, I came home once, and my guy greeted me happily at the door (after his two walks in only 5 hours of my absence). In his mouth were pieces of a chewed/ destroyed CD & case. THEN, I realized that he'd destroyed MUCH of my OWN "teaching homework" - tapes & CDs of in-service teachers teaching, so that I could assess/ help them with their English Classroom Language aspect of the big tests that were thrust upon them - at the risk of losing their jobs (contrast that with the approach in Thailand - where, IF they did the courses & passed, they got raises & were eligible for more promotions - NOT threatened with losing their jobs. Guess which approach created more angst, dis-harmony & ANGER/ RESENTMENT??) Anyway, what the heck was I to do? I called my uni supervisor, and said that "My dog ate my homework", and we both were laughing so hard we had tears streaming down our faces. After all, what the is biggest BS excuse that teachers face? That's RIGHT - "MY DOG ATE MY HOMEWORK". I discovered first-hand, that this COULD be TRUE. Lesson learned. Luckily, most of the teachers were able to re-shoot their vids. And, as for my guy? Off into doggie daycare he went! 🙂 Sheesh! Our dogs... Cheers!@@Fairythegreyhound

Lucky, happy Fairy, & lucky happy you! And of course you are "spoiling" her in a good way, not by letting her get away with bad behavior (if she has any!), but by giving her everything that makes her happy! She seems a remarkably amiable dog (unless you are a squirrel, in which case she is a terror!). I don't know about the racing---I'm pretty sure they don't enjoy the lifestyle, but I think if they hated the actual racing they just wouldn't do it. I think it is more fun for them when they can chase something, but that doesn't mean it is good for them, as we see in Fairy's last race, definitely safer to run on the beach without things to collide with! In the States, they cannot race past 5-1/2 years of age, & as most of the tracks have closed down, there is now actually a shortage of racing greyhounds, so my rescue association is importing them from Ireland & Australia. The good news/bad news is that there may soon be no racing greys for adoption, & I have heard that the show dogs are rather different from the racers. I wish I could have another one, but I simply cannot manage a large dog any more & whippets are few & far between. So I'll be happy with my medium-sized companion who definitely has his own charms! And with enjoying Fairy's lovely adventures, for which I thank you very much.

In Australia there’s probably four meeting s here to being Friday ! But every state in Australia b would have at least 2-4 meetings a day with 8 dogs in each race ! It is Highly Regulated in Australia with so many laws for Greyhound Welfare ! The Kennelling Ares where dogs are waiting for there race to come around has A/C and they have mats to lie on ! They are each vetted before each race and again after the race if required ! The Australian tracks are much much much safer than the ones I see in Britain and have a camber on them for safety during a race ! Look up GAP GRV and you will see how our racing to for ever home works ! Thereare better ways than just saying ban racing ! ❤️❤️❤️🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
