Al Greymont is one of a kind. I was fortunate enough to work with Al for his dad. I was a 15 year kid back in the early 80’s working in the yard. Servicing equipment and trucks. Al is one of those guys that nobody could ever could say a bad word about. Great guy from a great family.

With over 50 years as an OTR/ Owner Operator both in and out of the Recovery Industry, decling heath issues forced me to give up trucking all together. I had come to the stark realization that had I continued, I would have become a danger to not only myself but the general motoring public as well. Besides, there are far too many "steering wheel holders " out there today. My uncle taught me how to drive; over a period of four years. My first truck was an old LF Mack. Five x three with a two speed rear end. Four the first year, I rode with him and learned general maintenance. Second year, I was actually allowed to drive, but only if he was with me. Third year, more driving, but only if the recovery required multiple trucks or, in the case of logging, we were both loading out of the same landing. The fourth year, I was allowed out on my own but only local stuff. That's how you learn to drive I too, loved the old Holmes. There wasn't anything you couldn't do with one if you didn't get in a hurry. Yes, I hate automatics also. There is nothing like floating a twin stick up through the gears. My uncle taught me how important it was to take care of your unit. Trucks got washed, fueled, and the OVM cleaned and restored for the next day/job before you were done for the day, regardless of the weather. My uncle was one heck of a mentor, never to be forgotten. I'd think long and hard before I "jumped ship."

You have a lot to be proud of, thank you for sharing some of your career with me. Health issues unfortunately sideline a lot of drivers including my dad but it's better to be taken out for health reasons then to die alone behind the wheel. Peace and love 🙏❤️

Mike, I mostly agree with your friend there about old school truckers when they are gone. I believe that you are keeping the tradition going as a younger guy and I hope some of group and others will learn from you to keep the traditions going. Doing trucking right and being friendly and polite to those around you. I am sure you are inspiring others.

I can relate... Born in 64 and got my " class A "license on my 18th birthday in 1982. Started on the farm driving old hay trucks at 16 yrs old with a lust for the world in a truck. Glad I live in the era I did as times have changed. I got to see a lot in the tail end of "fun" days of trucking in the 80s-90s. Hard to believe I turned 60 a few weeks ago, but the memories and friends will never be forgotten. Ole school trucking will never be as fun as it was in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s.

As busy and impersonal as I/we all imagine Mass and the northeast, we’re so impressed with the camaraderie and old school relationships, really cool. I consider myself to be an ‘old school’ driver. Been driving the same 92 Freightliner truck for 24 yrs. 400 big cam. Not the most powerful but runs like a sewing machine pulling 130k on a lowboy everyday… boy have times changed…!!

Real Truckers don't always live in the truck, or go across country, or live in a southern area. Which is something you show on your channel quite a bit. It's a lifestyle just the same and often a family tradition and a passion that can be compared to farming, mining, commercial fishing and auto racing. All different occupations that have a above the norm level of dedication. It's in the heart and mind and the souls of those involved. Good video. Safe travels and God bless and peace and grease right back to you.
