What a genuine and modest driver. I go out of my way when I have the chance to talk with guys like this.Back in the day you would run into these fellas at diners and would always have some great conversations about the business and past experiences. Truck World was always supper for me on the way out. I would leave Sunday around noonish and be there around 4-5 PM Then stay until I had to go up the road to Kmart in Warren, Ohio to deliver at 3:AM. After I got out of there it was West to Maumee to reload to come back to NJ. Log Book? Nah, I was hauling gardening stuff, NOT logs! Lol! Pennsylvania might as well been the Rockies when I was 24, tired and it was snowing so hard I could barely see outta the windshield of the COE Transtar 2. Great beginning and a good life. 62 year's old now and 38 years later. Jimmy's right. God bless him and you Mike for sharing it with us.

Another outstanding video. Guys like him are the "Real Deal" as you are too Mike. Shelby Elliott was out of The Sikeston, MO. not Oklahoma. I had a friend go to Shelby's back around 1992 to look at a Kenworth A model extended hood. V8 CAT 2 sticks the whole deal.. My friend Tom asked Shelby what his bottom dollar was on the Kenworth. Shelby reached his hand out, shook Tom's hand and told my friend "nice to meet you". Then walked back in the office.

One older guy who I looked up to as I was learning to drive in the mid 70s...said. "anyone tells you they never grind a gear is a liar"... Dont sweat the grind bro... it happens. Sweet tuck. Nice guy. I got out of trucking in 07... I know theres still a lot of old school drivers out there keeping it real... But man are there ever a lot of complete fools. I see guys just running the left lane... not jumping out for a quick emergency... but sitting there like they belong there. Where the hell did they learn to drive.

You better start saving your nickels and pennies Michael you'll be buying that truck its calling your name. An old guy I met years ago he's probably long passed now haven't seen him in 10 years maybe more. He had an old Kenworth LW model with a butterfly hood, he repowered it with 500 horse N14. His big thing was twin sticks I can't remember if it was 5+4 or 6+4. He refused to drive trucks with Eaton Fuller transmissions he was old school he says you can drive a truck more efficiently with two sticks. He could make that old Kenworth move. All the old school drivers I knew over the years when I was in my late teens early 20s they've passed.
