Things in Minecraft that make NO sense! Grian lists all the things that don't make much sense in Minecraft.. Logic goes out the window sometimes in exchange for gameplay - I thought it would be funny to share my observations with you!
The examples in this video are from Java Minecraft only.

Thank you to DomRao, Spring, Oculism, Jbip for their suggestions for this video!

Here's another one. When you place a bucket of water, it spreads out and can create hundreds of blocks of water. It can go on forever! But when you pick up a tiny bit of that water, only one block, it all disappears.

I feel like the water thing might be because, in earlier versions. Water wouldn’t save you, but if you swam in it for too long and touched the ground(even at 1 block deep), you would take fall damage, sometimes even enough to kill you due to the game thinking you were falling. They fixed this bug, by making water stop fall damage. They likely could change it now, but the public outcry would be insane

actually the stonecutter one does kinda make sense. i do a little bit of stonework (faceting specifically), and the blades that are used to pre-form the stone before you start the rough cutting are a lot safer than blades that are meant to cut other materials. because they aren't serrated, they don't hurt if you touch them. the saw kinda works like a really narrow belt grinder. the diamond grit on the sawblade sands down a very thin (less than 3 millimeters ) section of the rock until it splits. so as long as you don't force your finger into the blade, it's pretty safe.

I'm sure lots of people have commented this but just in case, there's actually a cool thing with the quazi connectivity thing, where pistons only 'check' whether they are powered if you give them a block update, such as placing/destroying a block next to them. That means you can power them like you did at 1:26 and then break the redstone block and since it hasn't received a block update, it stays extended!

3:06 the lapis lazuli is consumed to add a layer of enchanting on top of the blade, stronger enchants require more lapis obviously (and more experience to even apply the enchantment, thats why only 3 levels are used but 30 are required (in the case of max enchanting)). Thats why it is easily scraped off using a grindstone. Edit: This is also what makes the tools and armor glow afterwards.

Here's a little Minecraft history: The score seen when you die dates back all the way to 2009 classic survival test. This very old series of versions had a more arcade-like gameplay, where you would gain score by killing the mobs that spawned randomly. The score didn't do anything, it was just a number. When you died, your total score would be shown, and your only options were to generate a new world or load an existing save (they were online saves back then). Score was removed in Indev. Also, did you know that only in survival test, creepers actually attacked you instead of exploding, and they only exploded when they died? Crazy stuff.
@lolicanadian

Ah, a fellow person of culture, I see! Also, items back then only dropped when a block was destroyed by an explosion, and _all_ of them dropped when a creeper exploded.

The fence has a hit box bigger than it is to keep you from jumping it. The reason the carpet trick works again is hitboxes but restricting yourself to a 1x2 space makes it so you can't move up and over it. Probably won't be "fixed" cause it's to much work to account every scenario

I know this video is like 2.3 years old or whatever, but i was bored and i wanted to create logic for these, even if it's just pulling it out of my bum 1. Lava-proof bucket burning in lava - the inside is lava proof, the outside isn't (ignore the fact that lava's dripping out of it on the sprite) 2. Redstone powering a block away - the block drips powder onto the block below it 3. Cactus being better than lava at destroying the hardest substances - items are allergic to cacti 4. Leads not being in your hand - the leads are supposed to be attached to a belt, since you can still hold other items while the lead is attached 5. The saw doesn't deal damage - it's a paper saw 6. Anvil block doesn't float but the item does - what did you expect when you turn a block into something that's 1/10 the size? 7. Disenchant items by grinding it off - you engrave words into the item to enchant it, so you can grind down the item to destroy the words 8. Animals don't drop cooked food by dying on campfires - the fire isn't hot enough, which is why it takes a considerable amount of time to cook food on it 9. Score - it's your experience bar.... that's... that's it... 10. Carpets get destroyed by water, pressure plates don't - hey buddy it's wood 11. Fish entities don't get caught by a fishing rod, rather a bucket - the ones you see swimming around evolved to be more than just items, they're aware of the rod and actively avoid it 12. Water breaking your fall with a single block - okay for this one i want to point out that "you'd expect at least 2 blocks to break your fall" isn't real at all, since i believe water irl would make the fall worse than if you were to just land on the ground, but for the sake of minecraft i'll just say that they needed a way to break falls and water is the consistent way to do that in video games 13. Baking a cake with the crafting table - what we do with the crafting table results in enough force and heat to just bake stuff, and the furnace kinda just blasts things into the next century with heat. 14. Glass not being insta-mineable with haste 2 - it's laminated glass 15. Pillagers getting a mansion while villagers get a normal house - this actually has a really cool lore reason that I don't want to type out here but I believe there's a game theory or 2 on it 16. Dripleaves don't fall when stuff like anvils are on them - blocks aren't entities 17. Cobwebs taking longer to punch than trees - it's an entire cubic meter of SPIDER WEB. the stuff that has stronger tensile strength than steel 18. We can "fly" up waterfalls - it's called swimming grian, the player is a gold medal winning olympic swimmer 19. Sitting in a boat negates fall damage, while standing doesn't - it's the jumping in an elevator theory, if you're in the air upon impact you're taking the amount of fall damage you'd take if you were just jumping off, meanwhile being grounded, whatever's beneath you will absorb a lot of the impact 20. Crops don't get trampled by anvils/sand, but they do by players - have you seen how much the player eats? 21. Crouching on coals don't hurt - it's the careful foot placement which actually works irl! other commenters mentioned it and apparently the mythbusters did a thingy on it 22. Cows don't run out of milk - yeah neither do i 23. You can bounce off of slime vertically but not horizontally - it's like a spring, it only squishes one way 24. Water in cauldrons kill while it otherwise doesn't - the cauldron's made of iron you're still falling on iron 25. Endermen are fine with water cauldrons - the endermen only get hurt when there's a specific volume of water, like how we can ingest small amounts of poison but a lot of it is a no go 26. Can't walk through a 2x1 gap where the bottom block is replaced with a gate - the player is like 1.8 blocks tall or something around there, and gates/fences are 1.5 blocks tall. so the gap in reality is 1.5 blocks 27. Pots float but lanterns break when the block under them breaks - clay is strong man what can i say there. now they make sense, for the most part.

One thing I have always wondered: Why does it take 6 full blocks to make only two trapdoors, the equivalent of half a block? :p If I were to change it, I would make it so that it required just two adjacent blocks to make at leasat 3 trapdoors, like with carpets. In my opinion, that would make a lot more sense. Obviously there's inconsistencies with crafting recipes, but this one always makes me run out of wood! xD

I just thought of a possible explanation for the walking on hot coals thing. There's a thing called fire walking, which is when a person walks across hot coals. I'm not sure how they do it off, but it's not just a trick. Maybe not getting hurt while walking on Magma blocks (Hot Coals) in Minecraft, can be seen as the same principle.

About water. It's insane for me but if you will build to a world height, jump from there to a very bottom and land exactly on waterlogged chest which is 1 pixel shorter than a block, it will negate all the fall damage completely. I actually used that mechanic as a fast elevator to my spawner xp farm and I always miss a heart beat when I fall at this water pixel even knowing I'll be completely safe
@ellie-angel9254
@ellie-angel9254 Жыл бұрын
I can actually explain the fence gate thing! In the code, fences and fence gates register as a block and a half tall so players and mobs can't jump over them, which explains why you can't walk over them when there's a two block high ceiling - according to the game code, the fence block is half a block taller than it looks, so the space is only a block and a half tall and you need to crouch. (Can't explain why carpet doesn't fix it for a fence gate in that situation, though...)

0:55 My guess for why there can be a gap between the two is so that there can be a block between the two, for example, so that there can be a pressure plate on the floor which triggers Redstone one block below it. Also another thing that doesn't make sense is that placing down a cobblestone/wood plank on the floor will give you a 16x16 pixel block, makes sense, but when you put 1, 2, 3 of those onto a crafting table then drop the tool, with comparison to the source, the item is much smaller than the blocks it was made from. So my question is, where does the shavings go?

fun fact: if you walk calmly over hot coals (don't run or speed walk) it is possible to cross unscathed. this is because with normal walking, your foot is not in contact with the coals long enough to damage it. it could be that mojang based walking over magma on the same concept, where not crouching is essentially trying to move too fast and leaving your feet in contact for too long. note: while I personally recall mythbusters doing something on the hot coals bit with the B-team at least, I could be mistaken at any and all of this. I am *not* an expert and while I recall evidence, it was from like 2012 Edit: I think the amount of pressure you put on your feet when moving faster might have played a part. as I said, it was over a decade ago now and my memory is very fuzzy

Things that don't make sense: > You need a small amount of villagers to be considered a village. Yet, building different structures won't count as one. > Where do Iron Golems come from when there's a Villager Farm? None of them are seen building golems. > Pillagers capture Iron Golems at their outpost. So, how do they do this when they are 2 shot to any Golem. Speaking of Golems, they can't hit Pillagers through a fence but they can reach a player further.

My opinion: I guess this means that you think any interaction between same two things should have the same result. This idea makes no sense to me. By the same logic: - Water should turn any lava next to it to obsidian and cobblestone and not turn into stone. Or vice versa, water should turn into stone whenever lava touches it and not turn lava into other things. The former is better because you still can make obsidian. It's also what's implemented in MTG and its derivatives. Also, placing a bucket of conflicting fluid probably should make the reaction result in the block you're placing it into; - Cacti should not be able to exist because they destroy themselves and sand as items. Or they should only destroy some items, but destroy them regardless of what form either has; - Stripping logs should turn them into planks; - Copper should oxidise and trees should grow as items (including in inventories; - etc Quasi-connectivity indeed doesn't make much sense. But it's a consistent mechanic, so it's OK to me I don't understand the reasoning why lava should win. Also, which one wins may depend on the contest. For this particular one, it would make sense if they both destroyed the item. But netherite is an intentional exception from lava. (In the same way, nether star is an intentional exception from explosions) As I understand, lead goes from the hand in the model you see in TPW and from other devices in multiplayer. It appears to go from the side of the main part because it can pass through models. It's different from held items because it's harder to reposition. But it's close to what doesn't make sense to me. It isn't really about lead. It's that you can't see your own model. You see hands moved to constant places. It's useful, but doesn't make much sense. Also, I remember seeing a video according to which they render player hands in HUD so that it's always visible. (It wasn't about Minecraft in particular.) That explains that, but it's still weird. It's also inconsistent with RT (currently only in BE.) RT allows rays to bounce and return to the player. Here's the weird part: if they return to the player after bouncing, they hit it. If they go straight there, they don't. I don't remember what happens to ones that go through a texture (such as water) and change the direction. I don't know if this one is specific to Minecraft I can't judge if something is aggressive-looking. However, this mysterious concept explained to me why others complained For the anvil one, see the first one I don't understand “a rock that spins” and “scrape it off” To understand the issue with the campfire, one must know that the damage counts as fire damage. I guess they implemented the cooking in a bit of a weird way, so that's why. PS also, campfires can cook food, but in a different way I don't think the existence of score and goal should be related. Moreover, if there's a set goal, that makes the existence of useless score make less sense to me. (I know some games with a set goal and useless score) There are many blocks that I think should be waterloggable, but aren't. I also think water logging torches is a good way to have burned torches. It's the golden middle between burning out after some time and not burning out at all. It's what campfires have Fishing and fish are just different mechanics that give partially the same items. (Btw, to obtain what you obtain from fishing, you need to kill them rather than use a bucket.) I think the last point actually makes it make more sense. Your first argument doesn't really apply. Fishing complements killing fish, making it better. If the fish was the same, they would probably be better off removing fishing at all In the beginning, you promised things that don't make sense in the world of Minecraft. Here, the first argument means that doesn't make sense if you write it down and understand with the usual (aka irl) meanings of the words. The second argument probably has a point, though I guess you're just saying that the term “baking (a cake)” is confusing. But I don't see anything connecting it to cooking other than the irl meaning For glass, the pickaxe doesn't apply. So, you need to compare them without the pickaxe. But it indeed seems a bit weird that it isn't much faster than I remember without haste I don't know what “happy” means. But mansions are more complicated and have more to them than village houses. I don't think you should compare them to individual houses. Villages can be rather large The drip leave makes sense to me. Such blocks as sand and anvils aren't entities until the node just below is air. So, there are no entities. Drip leaves just allow entities to pass through. Also, I find it weird that everyone uses feathers. You can use any item to make this point. And you all use the same item that just randomly was used the first time I haven't done the math, but knocking down the entire tree seems to take longer than breaking one cobweb node to me. You just break one log. That's much less than a tree. It depends on the tree, though. But I don't see why mining cobweb should be faster. In fact, in normal gameplay, I think one would knock down trees more than break cobweb. I'm not sure, but I think that means it's more balanced if breaking trees takes shorter I don't find climbing waterfalls absurd. What's the effective difference from an ocean in how it should be (if any)? In the boat one, what makes no sense to me is that you died mid-air. The part that you survive is a bit weird, but it's less weird The player doesn't attack the wheat directly. Rather, the player ruins the mud (the node right below it). Also, I don't see any reason why breaking falling blocks should imply surviving a player I think the magma one is for balance. It's good to have something that makes you go slow Milking cows infinitely is just one of the cases of something renewable. Another example is water. But I agree that some sort of burnout would make the game more balanced. It would make less sense to me, though Flying into something is different to falling onto it. You get different death messages Water in a cauldron isn't really water. This is just one of the many differences This one is partly the same as the above. But it's indeed weird that they implemented checking if you look at them. Well, I've seen some weird mechanics that may be unintended. If you place a redstone piece on the block powering the piston in the slower feeder, it'll behave partially like in Bedrock. That's the only one I remember rn, but I think I've seen some others Fence gates just have a hit box higher than the model and space they occupy. I guess that's the source of confusion I don't see why the size should be the determining factor for floating. Lantern floats because it's installed on a side of a node I think some of these may be bugs. They should be reported

I think the theory for magma is that you're being careful and moving slowly, so instead of running across and accidentally stepping on the molten stuff, you're carefully moving across and making sure to only step on the cooler stones instead. Similar to how crouching stops you from falling

No actually it's the proper way to walk across hot coals. Mythbusters tested it and talked with people who are trained to walk on hot coals. When you run or walk too quickly you are putting more weight onto the coals and burning yourself faster with the hotter part of the coals if you break them open. Walking slowly and carefully is the proper way to do it
