It's amazing how many options to customize our grills and smokers have become available in the past 5 to 10 years. I can see the versatility of this type of griddle, especially when paired with the pellet grill, and I was thinking as you said it that you would probably be able to dial the temp down and still get a really nice heat on that surface. Oh, and the sausage and peppers were the perfect inaugural cook for this piece of equipment. Well done ;)

It truly is amazing to see what people come up with, to be used in the various grills/smokers. This is the coolest pellet grill add on I've seen and works fantastic. Yeah, thought I would keep it simple but delicious on this trial run of the Griddle Hack. Thanks Ry and I appreciate you checking it out!

Hi Russ, That griddle is far more engineered than it looked at first glance. I never gave a pellet device a second thought, but this is opening my mind to the idea. We had 7oz 20% peppered and worchesterchired ground chuck burgers tonight, Green Egg top down with chunk mesquite, for a medium smoke heat, then melted 3 layers of swiss american right on the beef, top down and vent near closed... lots of smoke pressure on the melting cheese. Fresh arugula lettuce, a light toasted sesame bun... good for just a quick burger. Eat well!

Christy, this totally reinvents the pellet grill as far as giving it a much broader ability to cook virtually anything. Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I just don't have room left to store a big flat top griddle, and really don't need anything bigger than this. This fed 6 people and normally I only cook for two, so it's perfect. Thanks Christy, the sausage was amazing that Matador sent out.

That conversion seemed easy enough to me. There's nothing better than a goood sausage dog with peppers and onions. I'm going to have to try that added garlic on mine next time I make them. Thanks for sharing how easy it is to have a griddle on the grill instead of having to buy that big separate one I've seen people using. It's a great tip you've shared with us. Hope you have a great week!

Super cool! Camp Chef told me about this a couple weeks ago also. I’ve got a recipe waiting for it lol. Can you use the top shelf while the Griddle is in and close the lid and cook normally also or is Griddle mode only Griddle mode?
@SmokyRibsBBQ
@SmokyRibsBBQ 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mike! Not sure brother. If you close the lid, then you run the risk of the griddle getting to hot I would think, because there is no where for all that heat to go fast, and also, you would be running the griddle at possibly a different temp then what you want for whats on the top rack, but hey, I may just have to see if it can be done. It would be a balancing act I think but could be possible. Thanks for checking it out Mike!

@brianboswell550
@brianboswell550 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Guys, just so you know you can definitely still use the top rack to toast buns or keep food warm or whatever you want while using the griddle. When you close the lid your temperature probe will read a more consistent temperature than with the lid open so if you have your grill set to 300 degrees and close the lid the griddle should cool down and get closer to the 300 degree range as well. Backwards to what you would think but that's the beauty of the pellet grill controller.

Damn boy what in the hell is wrong with you!! Posting a video like that 11 o'clock at night!How in the world is anyone supposed to sleep thinking about a dog that looks that good??? That looks so good I got indigestion thinking of it. LOL. How do you control the temperature? With the cover open your temperature probe will keep wanting to run it higher. Do they allow for that or you just play with it till you get it where you like it? Looks like a great product will check it out and another great video as always.
@SmokyRibsBBQ
@SmokyRibsBBQ 6 жыл бұрын
LOL, I was going to wait till tomorrow morning, and I thought to myself, what the heck, I'll go ahead and release the video tonight. I'm not totally sure how it can adjust up and down with the lid open, but it does. When I had it full blast yesterday and reading temps over 500°, I shut it down to 300° and heard the fans slow down, and sure enough the temps went down as well. On this cook, when I made my final adjustment to 275°, I looked at the readout on the camp chef, and it was at 272°, so it obviously had enough heat even with the lid open to keep it running at that temp. 272° = about 375° on the griddle! Very cool indeed and it works just as advertised. Very impressed with it. Thanks for watching, I sure appreciate it!

Well I wouldn’t hardly call this expensive especially compared to many things cooking related but you know the old saying “you get what you pay for”. By time you factor in the cost of steel and craftsmanship (yes made in the USA), the price is about where it needs to be.

This might sound corny but where is the smoke from the burning pellets? I saw very little.
@SmokyRibsBBQ
@SmokyRibsBBQ 6 жыл бұрын
Heat and smoke comes from the wood pellets which are made from 100% wood. When cooking like I did here with the lid open, the pellets are producing a very clean fire but very little smoke but a lot of heat, which is perfect while using the griddle, but if I were to use the grill for a low and slow bbq then the lid would be shut, and the temperature would be lower which will produce more smoke, especially when it cycles to the low end on the cooking range it is set at.

Russ…I just got the “griddle hack”. I know it says it’s pre-seasoned …but… how did you season your griddle?!!
@SmokyRibsBBQ
@SmokyRibsBBQ 3 жыл бұрын
Just rub a small amount of cooking oil over entire surface. Just a very thin layer. Don't let it puddle. Run the pit for around 3 hours, then repeat two or more times until you build a good seasoning on the metal.
