For all the Grievous fans I’ll do a better job at explaining his escape. While the republic interferes, Dooku uses the force to open Grievous’ cell and one by one grievous cuts down Mauls Mandalorian guards with his fingers. One of the guards is told by Grievous that he will kill them all and to ask Maul to send more men.

When looking back, all of this was set in motion when Sidious ordered the death of Ventress, and considering that Sidious considered Talzin to be a genuine threat to his future empire, you have to wonder if this was Sidious's plan all along. It honestly seems like a stretch even to me, but considering that this is Sidious we're talking about here, I wouldn't put it past him. He always did have that gift.

When he is captured, and when Grievous escapes, he reins in the general and is ensuring the right pieces are falling into place. It is why he rejects Maul's offer, he knows that the endgame will involve Sidious himself showing up.

If they did a Clone Wars season 8, I'd most definitely include this Son of Dathomir arc! Perhaps make it like TCW S6, like another "Lost Missions" type of season. And if I was to have another amazing season finale for a S8, it would be the Battle of Coruscant, that would get like a four episode arc all to itself. I would draw many of the fine details of the battle from the old legends novel (Labyrinth Of Evil).

I think The Clone Wars ended more than perfectly. Although i do want more in the way they made season 7 look, it was breathtaking to see Maul's footwork done by the man himself, as well as Ahsoka. If anything i think they should do an Anthology series. Each season could focus on a different era, so the first season would be called The Clone Wars, based on what other characters were doing around the time before and after, Order 66. The second season could the Galactic Civil War. We get to see Luke when he faced Vader between ANH & Empire. Or earlier then that, when both Vader and Sidious were stranded and being hunted. I think it was Lords of the Sith. Season 3, before the end of the Galactic civil war, after the Mando era but before the sequels. We could see what Mayfeld went through during Operation Cinder, or one of Lukes adventure. By season 4 we already have a few more things on the high republic…maybe KOTOR era, and post sequel. 🤷‍♂

So let’s sum this up for the laymen: Sidious wants to kill maul’s mom. Gets his cybernetic attack dog and his trainer to tease maul to get him to go crying to Mama. He does, but the cybernetic attack dog and his trainer are completely ambushed by mama boy’s homies. After being released, the old bastard, the cybernetic attack dog, and the count all track down maul. They find him. Maul’s mom goes full possession of the count while grievous and sidious are trying to get the win. After sidious performs an exorcism, grievous literally kills maul’s mom right in front of him, after saying “it’s time”.

What we really need after Kenobi is a Vader series that starts immediately after ROTS. And then a Maul series that takes place in the Rebels era and at the end of it (hopefully more than one season) Maul gets a proper live action death. That might even give us a chance at a live action Kanan Jarrus.

I read Son of Dathomir about a week ago. It then led me to wonder what happened to Darth Maul in the Legends timeline. Owen Lars shoots Darth Maul point blank in the face dead. I thought that was interesting. It's not everyday you get random characters get killed by nobodies. Last time I recall this happening in Star Wars was when Nomi Sunrider tried to bring I think Ulic Qel-Droma home and some Jedi fanatic killed him off like he was nothing.

@Vlok Fox Interestingly, Darth Plagueis had actually believed that Dooku could beat Palpatine in a duel. Safe to say Dooku was the better swordsman, but Palpatine was vastly more powerful

I’m just thinking since Mace and Dooku were considered equals that the Count would give a good display

However, problem is that, even if Sidious didn't expect Mace Windo to be this much of a challenge, he did most probably want to end it in a similar fashion to make Anakin chose between him and Mace. Still, Mace did a good job and I wonder, how would Mace fare against Dooku (both in their prime)?

@Vlok Fox That’s a good point. Mace vs Dooku is something I’ve always been unsure about, it’s like they’re perfect counters for one another. Mace is very strong and fast while Dooku is efficient and doesn’t rely on the DS in combat, somewhat depriving Mace of his vaapad card. It feels like a perfect 50 50 and one slip up of either opponent will seal their defeat
