i feel like c70 is a great camera for doc, events, and run n gun. i think canon does not market their sub $7500 cameras (c200 era prices) for film making or studio production much. Of course it is capable in the right hands but missing some flexibility and conveniences. the fact they left off raw and sdi completely shows that.

@@RayValdezPhotography Run & gun... events... docs only? You only have to look back a few years ago to a guy who shot a self-financed feature movie on the C300 ( only 1080! No raw ! ) and got a 3 picture deal out of it. There is more to 'filmmaking' than the sensor and pulling shadows. There is sound design, location, talent, script, lighting, costume, makeup, literally so many things. Here's the film I'm speaking of- it's called BLUE RUIN and it's amazing. In fact, the guy could have rented a 'better' camera back then, but he chose (I read in an interview) to put that extra money into all the things I listed. I've been looking at both the 6K Pro and C70 as my "next camera". And this video has helped me get one step closer to choosing between the two. The price difference is significant. But, the one thing you showed with the C70, is that you can underexpose a shot and still get clean shadows. That's a pretty big deal, especially for run and gun scenarios, which is what most indie filmmakers like myself are looking for. And the 2-10 stops of built-in ND filtering is huge. As an owner of the BMPCC4K, you'd think it would be an easy choice. But, the C70 offers so many features, like autofocus, which is a major benefit when you need to grab that one last shot for the day. Thanks again, for this video. It was quite helpful.

I want to eventually end up doing more controlled, studio type shooting, but currently its a pretty heavy mix of run and gun and studios on the side. 6k Pro shoots raw 12-bit. C70 has the features to die for, and that booster for the EF glass. For the price of the C70, I can get the the 6K pro and build it out fully. But C70 would be somewhat future proofing for RF. @58FX3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the reception area was a very dark room with bright sunlight occasionally blasting in through one row of windows on the far side. Once again, the auto focus did a great job on things like tracking people in the bridal party, switching to the next person rapidly and smoothly as they walked by. Nothing still beats Sony for super dark conditions, but you really have to ask yourself how often you are going to be shooting that way and if great improvements by other brands are good enough 90 pc of the time. Will be sticking to renting until I see the sum total of everything Canon releases through the rest of the year. Might rent an FX3 next just to play with the latest Sony tech a little and try it out, really want to compare color grading efforts and results. RF lenses were fantastic as well, but quite a $$$$ commitment. Want to test more of my EFs with the adapter next time too around auto-focus and handling.

Love your vids. I'm a sub. Two things: 1. Is the bokeh the same with the C70/0.71 converter combo as with a full frame Canon? Looks like it matches fov and depth of field decently and goes a stop lighter, but does it "look" the same? Note I also like the 35mm image - brilliant that the C70 can do both. 2. Nice that the BM pocket pro has a good screen. I shot BM for years. The physical ergonomics drove me bonkers - no AF with low res not bright built in monitor made me sweat focus on shots, sometimes with good reason. I never knew for sure until I'd uploaded to my computer. I'm not a fan of adding a 2nd ext monitor. The internal raw / pro res and the ergonomical menus are huge pluses. My suspicion is that because BM is small operation they need to keep development and hardware costs within a tight margin, and fair enough as the result is great image and low cost.

Ya the new screen is great (aside from the color, but I heard a firmware update is coming to fix this). I would check out my C70 speedbooster video showing it compared to the c500 Mark ii. It looks very similar to me. Unless you are really looking for it, it’s likely not noticeable. Although, it doesn’t appear identical to me for several reasons. as an aspiring cinematographer / filmmaker I am deciding in which cinema camera to get as my first, either c70 or the rumoured c200 mkii. I am cool with c70 but it doesn't shoot raw. As someone who has been shooting 8 bit video on a 5d mkiii, I really wanna experience raw footage and start getting into the raw workflow.
@BryonBlack13 жыл бұрын
From what I've read elsewhere, another one of the major Plus points for the C70 is how simple the work flow is - no need for RAW processing, or proxies, etc. How did you find the work flow efficiency to compare between these cameras?
@robertm39513 жыл бұрын
The 6K Pro is even simpler when you use ProRes. BRAW takes more work but it is better than most other RAW codecs.
@GriffinConway3 жыл бұрын
In my opinion they are both equally simple and easy to work with. The c70 plays back a little smoother in premiere, but in resolve they are both great
@fabmartel3 жыл бұрын
thanks nice video. it will always be the same, until Blackmagic Design dont up sensor , the full frame are the best in low light. I am waiting for my Z6 ii to be modified to leave the BRAW and that will make a big change compared to the ProRes RAW

What about editing performance? I love B-Raw, so easy to edit. How is the C70 on the timeline? Hopefully it's better than DSLRs and GoPros.

I’m doing music videos, documentaries & short films which of the cameras you Recommend? I am strongly leaning towards the C70 as I am a Canon User since 2019
@robertm39513 жыл бұрын
C70 will definitely be better for music videos. The 6K Pro should be fine for docs and short films. The C70 should be a little better for those things but good enough is good enough and C70 costs more than twice as much.
@GriffinConway3 жыл бұрын
Both would be good for those uses. Do you want/need a speedbooster, full sensor 4K 120p, or plan on using pl mount glass? Then go c70. If not I would go pocket 6k pro

Haven’t even finished the video yet, but the underexposed section is right on! That’s why I got rid of my 6k. I always had to do a lot of denoising in post if I underexposed even just a little. And denoisers are extremely taxing on your system. Not worth it to me 🤷🏼♂️. Loving my c70 tho!...ok back to the video 😂

enjoy watching all your videos :) i believe youtube compression is taking away black color information for example 2:30 black jeans, 2:35 your t-shirt and backdrop color fall offs.

KZbin compression is never great. Also changes depending on your browser, and also how the screen is calibrated (iPhones for example are notoriously contrasty)

Thanks for this comparison Griffin! Best part was that your comparison was 'TO THE POINT' and without bias towards any camera. Both have their own set of advantages over each other. And with Panasonic S1h and S1's new firmware update now even those cameras need to be compared with such an unbiased opinion. It would be great if you would be able to give that a shot. I am in such a dillema right now because I am spoilt with cinematic footage that i am able to shoot with my BMPCC 6k but want to upgrade my other camera / B-CAM from sony a7iii to _____________ (BMPCC6K Pro or S1 or S1h) ? As all of them have their own sets of pros and cons.
@GriffinConway3 жыл бұрын
Do you need autofocus? If not I would personally go for the pocket 6k pro since it will be a perfect match for the 6k. I would love to try out an S1/S1H at some point, but I don't have one and I don't have any friends with one right now.
@familytime87503 жыл бұрын
@@GriffinConway actually I need a good IBIS . Autofocus is not a big deal but for handheld shooting a good IBIS would be great. I hate using Gimbal and setting up a Bmpcc on gimbal is even more time consuming specially with a heavy lens like Sigma 18-35. It gets so tiring that one usually miss' the moment. With handheld it feels more organic. That's the only reason I was leaning towards S1 as of now. (And the rumors of Gh6 makes me wait a little more). Crazy times where we are having camera releases so fast that we are spoilt with too many options I guess. . But then 6k pro with built in Nd filters and Tilt screen monitor with 1500 nits and a superb battery grip is so alluring.
@roscosart18883 жыл бұрын
@Ketan O Rana I bought a used S1 and the IBIS is fantastic. I'm the same, I don't like gimbals. Bmpcc6k is definitely alluring.

I've had a very different experience with the C70 underexposed. I'm getting so much noise if I even slightly underexpose my shots. Are you shooting in Clog2? I would love to see a video from you on properly exposing the C70 as it feels like a big shift from my GH5.

Hi mate. Nice review. I am really torn between the two and I need to choose. The only thing I like with the Canon is the auto-focus as I will be filming a lot of moving objects, people etc, but I really like the picture that comes out of the BM6K. I think if BM came out with better autofocus they would probably nail many competitors.

Is the 6-stops ND Filter enough for the brightest day at 1.8?
@loukimein62293 жыл бұрын
1.8 might be overexposed a little bit at the brightest time of day. For that a 10 stop nd might be better
