Please help 1. A compound A reacts with an alkylmagnesium halide B to give the final product C, of formula C5H12O. Dehydration of C gives a compound D which on oxidation gives two products E and F. The later reacts with 2, 4 - DNPH but E does not. However, E turns blue litmus paper red. Compound D decolourises bromine dissolved in carbon tetrachloride. a. Write structures A and B. b. Using appropriate structures, write the sequence of reactions to the final products, E and F. c. Name the compounds A, C, D and F, d. Draw all the possible stereoisomers for each of the optically active compounds in c above.

I was wondering in the very last example of finding out the reactants. I thought gringard agent is added only to elongate the chain without Mg attaching itself to the carbonyl carbon. Can the reactant be cyclohexanone? If you followed the steps of the shortcut you’d get the same product ?
@Leah4sci2 жыл бұрын
Cyclohexanone would not work for this example because we want the position of the final alcohol to be on the carbon that is one removed from the ring. We don't want the alcohol directly bonded to the ring. For help with questions like this and more, I recommend joining the organic chemistry study hall. hey ! we have conversions in organic chemistry. like we are given the reactant and the product and we are supposed to convert the reactant into the product anyhow. thing is that i have learnt the individual reactions but still can not effectively do conversions. can you please suggest what should i do to do them effectively?
@samriddhadas93164 ай бұрын
for example we were given to convert ethanol to but-2-yne . i was able to convert it into but-1-yne but could not convert it into but-2-yne. i dont understand how to bring the triple bond to the 2nd carbon.

At 8.33, y do we need break either side when carbon has only 3 bonds in the first place?Y can't we just add on another bond n let it be sp3 hybridised?
@Leah4sci4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and asking! First, the carbon bound to the alcohol group has 4 bonds to begin with. The rules for drawing bond-line structures tell us a hydrogen is also bound to that carbon in addition to the oxygen and other carbon groups. Second, the reason we are breaking a bond in this example is because we are working backwards to predict the reactants. A Grignard reaction is important for its ability to elongate carbon chains by the formation of new carbon-carbon bonds. To work backwards in a Grignard reaction, we must think about breaking bonds rather than forming them.
