Christian Cage is one of the all-time greats in my book. He's literally a 10/10 both in the ring and on the mic. He was held back for years by Vince and he was forced to stay retired for 7 years yet here he is all those years later shining and doing what he does best! I hope he gets a massive push in AEW. He deserves much more credit than he gets. I'd love to see Christian Cage main events All In as the AEW World Champion!

Vince didn't take anyone serious until he absolutely had to. Vince didn't even truly take Edge seriously, other than put a belt on him bc he's great at being a mouthy pain in the ass. I think Christian was in Edge's shadow just because that's who he came up with. I think Edge was the more persistent one and advocated for himself better. In those days, reserved , composed serious personalities didn't get as far as the more extroverted narcissists, unless you were a legendary badass.

It's been well documented that Edge was seen as potential main eventer from the moment he was hired. Gangrel has said the Brood was just there to get Edge over and that his job going into it was to coach those guys and to get Edge over. I personally always thought Christian was more talented.

I think that Vince and Christian Cage snub when he came back.. was just a backhanded way of saying "He's back, but don't have him leave that way again. Let's punish him for doing it before and see where it goes."
@TheGreatVivek7

So the story back then was, Christian was supposed to return to Smackdown and win the title from Jeff Hardy (then champion), which would have set up his feud with Edge. This was his agreement with Vince when he (verbally) agreed his contract with WWE. However, Christian was a true professional and was a close friend of Dixie Carter, so he wanted to exit TNA properly by putting over the Main Event Mafia and by passing on the torch. Hence during his last TNA appearance Christian took an Angle slam and a scissor kick. Vince apparently was not happy with that, as he didn't want to feature a guy who got beaten up in a rival promotion to be feuding for the top title. Thus, Vince reportedly himself leaked the storyline of Christian being the "mysterious attacker", and he used the same excuse to cancel the storyline altogether and moved Christian to ECW. However, there are two versions of this story as recently Matt Hardy in his podcast revealed that he was always supposed to be the "mysterious attacker". I suppose the true identity of the mysterious attacker will truly remain mysterious.

Edge should help christian win the title when he returns then they can build i real.fued for once with edge and christian which eventually them splitting again then having one big last rivalry. At this point this is the best storyline aew can put together for casual aew watchers. They have to put ex wwe guys as the top guys now it's the only way there gonna gain viewers

2005 was where this perception was concretely cemented in WWE. Early that year, Christian had organically ascended into main-event status and was in WWE Title contention...but as quickly as his rise happened, Vince McMahon just as quickly brushed him aside into the mid-card and straight out of the company for nearly 4 years.

There was a triple threat match with him, Jericho and Cena that year for the WWE title and the crowd showed a lot of love for Christian. I think they could have pulled the trigger then. He was over as a heel.

@@matthewjenkins7488 This 💯. Christian has since said that he felt disrespected by the addition of Chris Jericho into what was initially billed as a one-on-one WWE Title match between himself and John Cena, and that it was a sign that the company didn’t have enough faith in him to help establish Cena. Christian pointed to that moment as a key factor in his departure from WWE that year.

CHRISTIAN isn't intimidating. He's a good looking guy. He's smarky. Had Christian turned heel to become CHARISMA CAGE and have a HBK 1992 like run. Christian Cage should have beaten Brian Cage for FTW CHAMPIONSHIP to not only claim the championship but exclusive rights to CAGE. FACE THE WORLD CHARISMA CAGE FTW

Don't feel Christian was buried per say, so can't agree with that. Christian was in the middle of the card while the roster was stacked with Rock and Austin, et cetera. Let's not forget he was IC Champion and had a high-profile match at Unforgiven 2001. When the roster depleted, Christian got his as chance as World Champ.

Exactly, in order for Christian to get moved up, another star has to drop down. And with the talent you mentioned at the top he could only get so far. But he did have title reigns, he just wasn't as over as Edge. Christian made money and had/has a good career.
@alaooooy7
@alaooooy7 24 күн бұрын
He was just as talented if not more talented than most of these guys. It was his time to level up in 04/05 when both Rock and Austin were gone. He was so over and he was selling massive numbers of merch despite being a heel. Yet they jumped him in the order and started pushing new green guys that were nowhere near as mature as him while pushing him further down the card until he left. If Vince wasn't a moron he would've at least allowed Christian to have a proper 1 on 1 program vs Cena at Vengeance 2005 instead of adding Jericho to it and burying Christian again. He even got burried returning to WWE after his awesome TNA being put on the C show! Even at 2011 when they finally gave him a major main event program for the World Title they made him lose again and again. Christian deserved much more in WWE.L but it's not about how good you are. It's more about how much the bosses like you and both Vince and big nose Paul never liked Christian that much.

I was never a fan of Christian. He was boring. His promos sucked and he just had a very annoying voice. I don’t really blame Vince McMahon for not really pushing him. He sucked. He was the exact opposite of edge… edge was the superstar anybody who was watching wrestling during that time would know no need to explain how good edge was Christian on the other hand, he fucking sucked and Vince McMahon knew it
