Flair had a legitimate view from a traditional wrestling standpoint but let face it, Foley developed his gimmick and carved out his own path with several characters that he could pull out of a hat. Foley earned his spot by entertaining the fans. Who could forget the rock and sock connection? He could do the comedy stuff, yet step back to draw some real heat (and cut very good promos) leading up to the big PPV events where were all guaranteed to see foleys latest ‘stunt’ live before our eyes. Foley never shorted the fans in this area. And isn’t this what it is all about?

I think I get why Ric Flair has (or had) such a resentment towards Mick Foley. Think about it: Mick is still with his wife of 30 years, he has a wonderful relationship with his kids, he is a great human being who does A'LOT of charity and humanitarian work, never really engaged in the partying/drinking/drug aspect of the business, and he isn't just respected by everyone but also BELOVED by everyone. And more importantly, Mick knew when it was time to finally go away. I think Ric is envious of Mick because Mick has everything Ric wishes he had.

It was a good match I just wish it had a different finish. The way the match finished was that Mick quit because Melina asked him to and it looked like Flair might hit her, so Mick stopped the match. That would've been a fine finish, if only Mick hadn't written in his first book, that was the original ending to his "I Quit" match against The Rock years earlier. Only it was going to be his wife that came out and begged Mick to stop. As soon as Melina came out I knew what was going to happen, because I had read Mick's book.

Ric Flair: "We bled, sweat, and wrestled our way to greatness. You [Mick Foley] fall of a cage, your great? That's bulls***!" As great an in-ring performer as Flair is, it really isn't his place to criticize other wrestlers like Foley, just because their more unconventional and death-defying style of wrestling was more appealing to mainstream audiences.

Flair for all the good he's done for the business, he's equally a punchline. He's a legend from his glory days and not much since the 80s and early 90s....very early 90s. I can't tell you my favorite Flair match. I don't have one. I can name a ton of Mick Foley matches that I really loved, and they aren't all Hell in the Cells. As an in-ring talent, Flair was pretty lackluster. Going Woo, Flair Flops, and Chops. That sums up every Ric Flair match for 40 years... Mick cut better promos by a mile (although Ric had some great ones), Mick was a immensely more versatile performer in the ring and on the mic, had much more memorable angles, and some of the most memorable matches in the history of wrestling. Flair also most likely wrote that in his book because Foley talked about how terrible of a booker Flair was in WCW. It was sour grapes. Forget that calling Mick Foley a glorified stuntman and not a wrestler is nothing short of ironic. Wrestlers are stuntmen.

JR is being the consument professional in his rewind of that fight. I was there, Ric Flair threw a left hook Joe Frazier would have been proud of, & Foley was falling backwards asleep at the wheel, so to speak. Flair held a boxing type stance as Foley laid on his back staring into the ceiling. Ric Flair was a tough son of a gun & Foley found out the hard way. And we're talking about a guy in Mankind who could of taken a punch from Tyson & kept coming, if that's an indication of how hard Flair's left hand was that night!

Nick Dinsmore was funny. However, he could pull a Mick Foley and maybe do one or two different characters. Plus after listening to him Nick would be one hell of a play by play caller at the announce table. Better than what the WWE has now. Pair Nick with either JBL, Jesse the Body Ventura, or Jerry the King Lawler. It would fly.

Mick is successful but I understand why Ric never respected him as a wrestler. Mick got over by doing stunts and Ric by having psychology and working in a traditional way...which is in my mind much more difficult. I mean just take a look at what Mick has been saying lately on Social Media. It's ridiculous. " All women show ". Praising some garbage matches in AEW. Marking for Punk and contradicting Roman ( the biggest name in the business) when he said that Punk wasn't a real draw like Cena or Rock...which it's true btw. He wasn't drawing like those big names. The more I hear of Mick and the more I am convinced that he still doesn't get the business. And this is coming from a wrestling fan so imagine what a legend of the business might think of? Before everyone go hot...It's just a presumption 🤷🏽‍♂️

Here's the thing about Ric Flair calling Mick Foley a glorified stuntman: Wrestlers in general can be categorized as stunt workers. They themselves take on the role of both actor and stunt performer. Even Ric himself was receiving back body drops when he was in his late fifties. In a way, I could see where he was coming from by saying there's more to being a great performer than by falling off a ladder. But Mick was a great performer. He may have not had the same skill as Chris Jericho or Kurt Angle, but to say he wasn't a great worker just isn't true. As for Mick Foleys comments about stepping down so that younger wrestlers can make there mark, I agree in a way. The younger generation should most definitely have their time to shine. But that doesn't mean that the older generation has to throw in the towel. As long as they're still capable of performing, an older wrestler can still mix it up with younger talent. AJ Styles is 44 years old, but he's still out there pulling off high flying maneuvers.
@herbythechef7624
@herbythechef7624 Жыл бұрын
44 is not bad think about HBK and taker having prime careers in their 40s. Flair on the other hand had matches in his 60s-70s. Shoulda hung it up over a decade becore. His retirement match in 2006 with HBK shoulda been flairs last
@snakeshadows6993
@snakeshadows6993 Жыл бұрын
@@herbythechef7624 44 is still 6 years away from 50. Around that time, most wrestlers are for sure contemplating retiring. Some retire even younger than that. Wrestling is a sport that can take its toll on your body. The reality is that the older you get, the less your body tolerates it. Again, I definitely support the idea of older wrestlers mixing it up with younger wrestlers as long as they're still capable of doing so. I wouldn't expect most wrestlers to retire as soon as they hit their 40s. But most are definitely planning on it by then.

I dont know that Flair should have called Foley out like that, but I will say this, on TV matches and PPV matches Foley went all out without disregard to his body; however, at house shows that were not huge arenas Foley did none of the craziness and was actually pretty boring to watch. At one match I attended, when the crowd realized the match was over and Foley was heading to the locker room without really doing much more than rest holds and few other holds and punches they actually started booing because of the lack of any real highspots. It wasn't much better the 2 other times i saw Foley at house shows either.

Pro Wrestling on Tv is a Production, a story, Fantasy entertainment with made up feuds... It's fully understood and expected the audience know that... A Autobiography on the other fan is the telling of one's life it's supposed to be non fiction, it's supposed to be real events and facts and legends told by and of a real person not a made up fabricated lie so to speak... Vince and Wwe shouldn't have any real input or say what goes into someones official biography Ric, Mick, Shawn, Bret etc should have the right to tell their story their way and if that includes some less then flattering commentary on fellow colleagues then so be it. As a fan for the past 30+ years I for one want to read and hear everything about wrestling all the stories, wild events etc it's part of being a fan. If I want a choreographed, scripted made up story I'll watch it on tv. So if Ric has something to say about Mick then let it be, their grown men either they except different view points or they settle it like men in a shoot fight.

Would you see Ricky steamboat using a barbed wire 2x4 on randy savage at wm3? No because they knew how to do wrestling. The ones who go out there night after night using weapons and doing stupid dangerous stuff just so people will talk about them and maybe a big player will notice them.
