Thermoworks confirmed that an update is in the works for the app as well. The one I was using was also in Beta mode. With those updates, this will be an amazing bundle!

At first I hated the idea of a wired air probe but I get it now. Due to your smoker temperature and possible flare up’s they can’t make a fully self contained air probe. I think this is the best possible solution since I have used meater in the past and the air temp can be 50 degrees off compared to my smoke thermometer

Thanks for the great in depth review. I ordered mine as soon as the window for ordering opened. I also thought the wired ambient temp probe kinda defeated the great range they developed. I have a Meater+ and it works pretty good, but also the usually connectivity issues depending on where I place the extender and cooking device. I am really excited to get mine and try it out.

Thanks for the comment! The decision not to include a built-in ambient probe was intentional. These sensors give inaccurate readings because cold meat acts as a heat sink, skewing the measurement by 75°F or more. Even if they were accurate, they’re placed in an evaporative cooling zone, leading to further inaccuracies, especially if you use a temperature-control fan. Currently, independent wireless ambient probes aren’t feasible due to the need for a thermal buffer, which the meat provides in standard wireless probes. However, we’ll soon introduce a device that allows you to connect a probe to the RFX transmitter, eliminating the need to place the RFX gateway near the cooker for ambient probe use. This function will be compatible with the RFX products you already own.

@@thermapen Thanks you. Oh yes, I know why you didn’t include it in the probe. I know my Meater+ was never accurate. I would sometimes use another probe in a potato or a cup of oil off to the side to get a better reading. Anxious to get my RFX and good news there may be a wireless option for ambient temp.

GrillinWithDad... Great review. Keep up the good work. I received (pre-order) a four probe set-up for my BDay. I have used EVERY other wireless rig and they ALL come up way short (mostly connectivity issues). I have numerous ThermoWorks devices and have been waiting for them to come out with THEIR version of this product. I am certain that it will be up to the ThermoWorks high standards. NOTE: ThermoWorks... I AM CERTAIN THAT YOU ARE IN PROCESS FOR A WIRELESS AMBIENT THERMOMETER... GET THIS RIGHT (TO GO ALONG WITH THE RFX) AND YOU WILL OWN THE MARKET.

I used the MEATER a few times and had problems with it. Was not impressed. Love the ThermoWorks products, have several Dots a Smoke, and a couple of Thermapens. I have never had a single probe go bad from them.

Any reason why we can’t order an extra wireless probe to use an ambient probe. Perhaps not for direct heat grilling, but smoking in the 225-300 range?

Really looking forward to this. The wired ambient probe is unfortunate but I understand the science and challenges behind it. The one thing i would love to see in the app is ‘remaining cook time’ The Meater does have this and although it can be wildly inaccurate it does give some indication when the cook will be done.

There's a few things I love about this probe. Unfortunately, their ambient solution ruined it for me. I'm like you, I believe they have another product coming, but they decided to rush this partially complete product to market in time for Christmas rather than miss the season.

I’ve been looking at this. I have their Instant read and love it. I use a MEATER now but ThermoWorks seems more accurate and quick. I agree that the Ambient probe should be wireless. May not be a big issue but the wire connection may not last and be disposable. You are in the Cincinnati area correct? We have a mutual friend.

the meat thermometer will work like it's supposed too when using ambient thermometer, correct? what disadvantage is it to leave gateway next to cooker?
@SilverFoxCooking3 ай бұрын
The gateway is what connects the probe to the app or the cloud, so if you don’t have the gateway near your phone or a wifi connection you won’t be connected. At least that is how it appears to work from their description.
@ryanb44813 ай бұрын
The big thing that this wireless probe supposedly does best is stay connected at long ranges. I believe Thermoworks is marketing connectivity at over 2,000 feet. The problem with that claim and their ambient temperature solution is the advertised range is from the probe to the gateway. If the gateway has to be ~3 ft. from the cooker because it's tethered to an ambient probe, then the over 1,997 ft. of range leftover means nothing. At that point, the real range of this wireless probe setup is the range of your wifi router. If your smokers are out of range of your wifi and tracking ambient temperature is important then this probe will not help unfortunately.
@curtisrogers41903 ай бұрын
In your 2 cooks, you never left your house to show connectivity away from home. Do you have any experiences leaving during a long cook and being able to check on your phone to see your progress of the cook?

No. The part that goes into the meat can’t handle high temperatures.

I wanted a completely wireless solution. The ambient temp on my meater 2 is pretty close to the my smoke ambient probe when I've tested side by side. Until Thermoworks comes out with a complete wireless solution, then I'll pass. I wish you would've showed us how well the wired ambient probe worked as well
@quetimporta21322 күн бұрын
Incorrect. He wired ambient thermometer doesn't defeat the purpose. It's proven to be more accurate keeping them separated. If you want wireless, you can just use another wireless probe
@jpstoehner7 күн бұрын
Incorrect. Keeping them separated has nothing to do with wired vs wireless. Keeping them separated has to do with not having the ambient sensor near the meat which could certainly be accomplished with a wireless ambient probe. Also, the tips of the wireless probes are only rated up to 212 degrees so also incorrect to suggest just get another wireless to handle air temp.
@quetimporta2137 күн бұрын
@@jpstoehner I see reading isn't your strongest. Where did I say wired vs wired has anything to do with ambient? I said keeping them separate has been proven to be more accurate. The definition of a suggestion is "an idea or plan put forward for consideration." So, you saying that a suggestion is incorrect, isn't even English, my friend. Therefore, I have no idea what you're trying to say there. Lastly, according to Thermoworks, the RFX probes are accurate between 14 to 212ºF. It doesn't say it cannot go past 212ºF. And I never said it was accurate, I ......suggested. And that suggestion was sarcasm. Smh My next suggestion is to read and comprehend what you're reading before commenting. It creates better responses
