Hi Sir, this is a live performance by Voice Play ( Voice Play - medley of songs # Sing Off tour ) 10 years ago. Please do a R & A
@RemWinchester2 ай бұрын
According to the behind-the-scenes on this one, they achieved the odd visual effects by recording with the music at 2/3 speed and then speeding the recording up to match the true tempo of the song! This shoot took two days, because they had to record Geoff’s top hat costume in a separate session.

Those opening chords are from the Haunted Mansion ride at the Disney parks. That chord progression was used in Hide and Seek because they put the song in the Haunted Mansion setting.

I always tell people if you want to hear and know just how good VoicePlay is, compare the live version of Grim Grinning Ghosts to their studio one. They're basically the same. 😃 The look was achieved with practical makeup on they guys' heads, pre-made shoulder/chest pieces that they stuck their heads through, and then it was all filmed at half-speed to get that jerky/missing frames look you mentioned.

You aren't the only one to hope that Earl might be willing to come back and do a guest spot with VoicePlay. Many fans have asked and hoped for it for a while now. If you check out the bookcase in the Ding Dong video, you'll see the ghost busts tucked away in the bookcase. :)

they also did a live recorded version of this song on their channel, where they have just come off stage from a show and sing it like they do on stage. I like that one even better than this music video, because it's completely live and off mic 🥰🥰 definitely worth checking out for your own listening pleasure ❤❤ awesome reaction as always, sir Hairless!

When I started listening to them, Tony had already left. I can remember being so impressed with his voice. I immediately went out to watch the Phantom one. I wish they had more recordings with Tony. I think he has a beautiful clear tone. But he’s happiest behind the camera I guess.

@@janetdw He’s on some Spotify tracks - look for the ones there’s no video for. There’s a Beauty and the Beast melody and an Aladdin one. If my memory serves, Tony is on both of those.

For some live performances - check out Road Trip (get the 9 mil, done during Sing-Off Tour), another is the Full Chicken Song (from the Scout Campfire Songs), after Chicago checked out VoicePlay's Nothing Else Matters, they had VoicePlay come to perform in Chicago and Friends - this is one Wishing You Were Here, and they sang with Chicago in 25 or 6 x 4 and Huldra Draco did several from the audience! There are a fair number of Sing Off tour since they did 2 tours.

It’s been awhile since I’ve watched this video. It’s very animatronic, but very cool! I love the Haunted Mansion in DisneyWorld. It’s a favorite attraction (and Pirates of the Caribbean). I still miss Earl. Tony was a little before I started noticing Voice Play. Love these spooky videos and hearing that evil laugh of Geoff’s! Lol

At 9:16 the "weird sound or microphone gone bad" is a wolf howl. It sounds, to my ear, like the foley effect used in old horror movies. Edit: A comment further down says its taken from the ride. Yep, that makes sense. I did the haunted mansion ride several times and there is a LOT in this piece that ties back to it. ... Hmmm. Thinking about it.. So I heard this particular Voice Play rendition when they first put it on KZbin, so 2016. That's 8 years ago. I remember pausing right at the opening where Geoff in the top-hat ushers us in and stating out loud "its the haunted mansion ride!" I went on the ride, if I remember correctly, in 1986 or '87 at Disney Land in California over Christmas break. The park was unusually packed, with some of the rides having a multi-hour wait in line. Someone told us that they were over capacity with record attendance. Anyway, the Haunted Mansion ride, by comparison, was only about 10 minutes. Later a friend of mine who had gone to Florida instead told me that there was a hurricane threatening Florida, so people were staying away. On the day he went to Disney World, the park was unusually empty, so he could ride any ride as often as he liked without any waits in line. It is interesting... the things that stay in your memory.
@disneyizme68552 ай бұрын
All of the speaking parts are taken directly from the ride. The ghost speak to you at points during the ride. The first speaking Geoff did was “female” sounding at the start because the original speaker in the ride is female. Very well done song and amazing analysis by you as per normal. Thanks
@MiladyMacabre2 ай бұрын
Grim Grinning Ghosts is the theme song of Disney's Haunted Mansion attractions, and the singing bust quintet appears in the graveyard scene near the end of the ride. This video was shot at Makeup and Creative Arts in Orlando September 22-23 2016. Geoff's singing bust part was shot on the 22nd, while everyone else's and Geoff's Ghost Host character were shot on the 23rd. To get the crazy movement effect, the singing busts were filmed going 1/2 speed of the recorded track, meaning they all had to move very slowly and exaggerate their motions and mouth shapes. This same opening chord progression appears during Hide and Seek, as you mentioned, and in the opening of their This is Hallowe'en video. The "jarring noise" is a wolf howl as heard in the Haunted Mansion. The "Hurry Back" line comes from the end of the ride, where a tiny figure (named Little Leota by the fans) urges us to return to become the 1000th ghost in the mansion, admonishing us to not forget to bring our death certificates.

Voiceplay lives in Orlando FL and go to Disney World quite a lot. Some of them even performed there in their younger days and they all still do from time to time. Geoff performed the Butler when he worked there so is very familiar with the character. This is their favorite ride. Well. The adults anyway 😂. The kids want to do the whole park each time they go 😊. Voiceplay has a ton of Disney videos. Their ACA Disney Top 10s are amazing considering they are all live. They have other top 10s as. With some of those live.

I have seen comments that this Grim Grinning Ghosts opening is also used in the opening for Voiceplay's This is Halloween (Nightmare Before Christmas). The latter is one of my VP's favourites: Hoping you'll analyse it soon, too, please. If you've already done it, then maybe I am thinking of Kidnap the Sandy Claws: no Earl but both Rachel Potter and J-None and another of my favourites! Also Nightmare Before Christmas.

iIt doesn't feel like Halloween until I hear this! It's so clever, though I wonder how long it took them to wash all the stuff out of their hair? LOL! No offense!😉 And that's the thing about Voiceplay. You never know when something from a past video makes its presence felt! Oh, have you done their "This Is Halloween" yet? That's the first VoicePlay song I ever watched in full. I thought the music was great, and a bunch of attractive guys, so figured I'd watch more by them and Ta-dah! Another Voiceplaya was born!💙
