It's because of Grimaldus I learned what the Chaplain's true purpose. Before I just thought they were melee cheerleaders- one pep talk and the marines are good to go But no, Chaplains must have a emotional sensitivity and unyielding foundation of spiritual strength. He's described as having 'kind' eyes, because when he looks upon others he is reading them entirely, they see empathy and understanding within him. Yet he stand absolutely firm and never shows weakness, showing his brothers and normal humans he isn't to be taken for granted. I don't envy the position of chaplain, they have to read the emotions of helmeted super humans watching carefully for doubts and spiritual confusion. To see a space marine struggling with the thoughts of "What am I doing here? Why am I doing this? How often must I witness my brother's death?" and to somehow snapped them out of it with a stronger sense of purpose speaks very highly of the psychological skills of space marine chaplaincy. Grimaldus is amazing, he's one of the reasons Chaplains are my favorite HQ choice of space marines

“Helsreach” is an absolutely amazing story that shows so many factors of siege warfare in the 40k universe that doesn’t really get shown in a lot of the other stories. Like the hierarchy in titan legions,to hidden weapons,to a regular soldier just trying to get to the last friendly place in the city. And the difference in a chapters battle tactics and beliefs compared to another that makes it so great of a story!!!!

I loved Helsreach. I think one of the iconic moments that really showed the difference and tactics of the Black Templars and other chapters, like the Salamanders was when they had a chance to take down an orc warboss rampaging in the city, but the Salamanders refused to commit to the attack because to do so they would have to abandon civilians to the orcs. Gimaldus was pissssssed. "Get out of my city." - 'Brother, do not let us part was like this..." - "I said get out." Though it is interesting how Grimaldus seemed to take on a very protective role of Helsreach as the war continued. It was his city, and his people by the end of it.
@NueThunderKing4 жыл бұрын
Joshua McBride he is an arrogant bastard, but one that serves his purpose well. The Salamanders will always be the people Space Marines, and the fact that they go to such lengths as avoiding a fight if it means to protect humans gives me more respect for them than for the zealots of the templars.

I have done my best to recreate the formation that was introduced in 6th edition known as The Sons of Grimaldus. Grimaldus as the warlord, his command squad, 5 crusader squads, two squads of Sword Brethren, a squad of Sword Brethren Terminators, and a squad of Sword Brethren Assault Terminators make up the core of the formation. I have added an Emperor's Champion, a squad of Devastators, a Vanguard Squad, two lascannon equipped razorbacks, and a Land Raider Crusader to fill it out. In the lore, this formation was swore to hunt down the Orks who retreated from Armageddon. I have broadened their targets.

This story, the animation done of it, the voice, the very fire and zeal on show from this novel is what first got me truely invested into 40k, but it also inspired me to remake the Templar Brethren, the First Company of the legion of old and work them into my Imperial Fists army... and granted while it's lightly lore breaking, I would imagine the prospect of guarding the Temple of Oaths and joining the Phalanx would be tempting for a Crusade of Black Templars.

The book itself tore me through so many emotions between giving me a great laugh, to inspiring/blood pumping, to solemn sadness. Definitively one of my top 10 reads. The audiobook was INCREDIBLY well voice acted. There were a few odd moments here and there but absolutely worth a 2nd "read over" of the book. And the animation... I happy marriage between the audiobook and a devoted fan's hard work. Need I say more? You are doing the WH40K community and GW a disservice by NOT watching it. Go do it now! The TTS universe may shit on the black templars, but by the emperor, does grimaldus redeem them.
