When I was 7 years old I played this game by myself, in fact it was probably the very first FPS/Horror game I EVER played. I had never watched X Files or anything like that before so this game was my first introduction to secretive spooky government going ons and what not. This game helped me build my inquisitive nature and showed me what true fear was at such a young age. Looking back now the game looks NOTHING like I remember it, in my memories it looked like real life, but it’s still the only piece of media that has ever made me leak some pee pee out of fear. Thank you for helping me remember this stuff, Grim! Great review as always!

"Given the US military's penchant for recruiting gamers (Midway Austin in collaboration with the Air Force) figured one game about the network of lies the US government is capable of puppeteering, one that allows you to actively have a hand in brutal imperialism, and one about America's barbaric prison system and lack of mental health support was the perfect honey pot." Lovecraft did *not* strike gold in his time. He lived a life of poverty (in part due to pride, in part due to anxiety) and died without knowing how his work ended up influencing pop culture. Calling him a mediocre writer is a valid criticism, but obviously, like, your opinion, man. His real accomplishment was his prodigious correspondence. He wrote stupid amounts of letters, and as a result had a tremendous influence on so many people. They are the ones who promoted his work and his memory after he was gone. It is ironic that one who had so many prejudicial beliefs was also so good at making friends. He's pitiable because he never understood that contradiction within himself.

Hello Grim Beard! I've been watching your vids for some time now, picking mostly familiar titles from the vast library. But the longer I stick around, the more rewarding it is to explore completely strange (to me) or obscure things as well. I couldn't wish for a more captivating guide than your narrative style and sincere effort that goes into these reviews. It's... many things. The editing and pacing fit just perfectly, they're not over the top or out of place. Respect for the media and its creators, which is such a rare sight. Careful observation, understanding of the context. Genuine dedication to what you're doing. And I can't get over how right the overall vibe is! It’s all about the combination of music, design, visuals, references, and the subjects of choice. I fail to imagine anything else in this KMFDM's sticker place, because _of course_ it's there. Everything just feels like home. And I believe your following, too, feels at home on your channel. Please keep up the impressive work and do what's true to you! It's impossible to fake these things and it shows. Also, I'm curious if you're familiar with Primal? It's a PS2 horror adventure game released in 2003. I have a weak spot for it as it was my childhood top favorite. Probably not the best thing to shape dumb kid's taste in music and character design but... yeah, the damage is irreversible. Jen's still one of my favorite female protagonists, and I revisit 16 Volt music pretty often. But this game has such a weak presence on the internet that it feels like a long forgotten fever dream at times.

The original company went defunct and personally gave the rights to the US Army. The Army didn't "take it" lol. Atari got tired of publishing for Midway and was in the middle of switching over to a Name-Branded product, instead of video games. Midway was majorly in debt and Atari would not assist them, so after they finished it and were going backrupt, Atari wanted to sell the rights to all of their games for Atari themselves and not Midway. That didn't fly and there was a huge fight over it. Midway entirely told the US Army, "Hey, if you want this, you can have it!". It was kind of a joke if I recall the lead dev saying somewhere a few years ago in the interview and was surprised when they hosted it on their website. It wasn't just the Army either, they gave it out to everyone. You can find the game from many websites, some that are still up. Be that as it is lol, the Army now has their own dedicated pro gamer league on Twitch, so maybe Midway started something lmao? This was right before the America's Army series after all. They also did this with the Suffering and a few other games. There was no cash involved in this and no real conspiracy theories, or sponsorships. Just one company mad at another.

While Im always excited for a review about something Ive never heard of from my favorite lil emo guy, Im equally hyped for the now ritual double darkened streams after each review. I meed you to maintain that series until we get to the nasty gritty parts, its going to be unbelievably choice

Goshdarn, I appreciate the work you put into reading all your patrons names, and making sure you pronounce them right, but the one written in Hangul had me holding my breath.

In that segment where you mention the game store in Stay Alive prominently displaying Dreamcasts five years after it was discontinued and wondering if they should've been in a bargain bin instead, I would like to point out my own experience with the Dreamcast where I got the console, a vmu, extra controller, and about five games all out of a bargain bin about a year BEFORE it was discontinued. So yeah, that depiction is definitely less than realistic.

That's pretty funny. I don't think anyone can beat the Virtual Boy, though. It had a grand total of 22 games. AVGN had an episode about it. What a disaster!

Bro, your videos are so good. I hate that I only recently discovered you, but also stoked I get to go through your massive backlog of videos. Also, I do go to sleep to your videos at times. I often put on one when I lay down and wake up to another of yours playing thanks to auto-play. Then I have to rewatch the first video, but more playtime for you (I think that's how it works, who fuckin knows).

This was one of your best videos in a long time for me. Never touched this game because the name was so generic, now I kind of regret it. Thanks for covering it. BTW your outro music is pretty good, looking forward to the finished one.

Very good review. Sincerest thanks. Editing and quality overall is awesome on your stuff. Back to game. I like quite a bit FPS's and it was pretty much my favorite genre. Area 51 is interesting. It wasn't that special, but I wouldn't consider it bad, but there's something. Cause it's one of the quite few FPS titles I've been planning to play again for years and years. Not that good that I have done it, but when thinking about FPS to replay, there really aren't that many titles I'd play, but FEAR, Area 51, Prey (original) and few others come to mind. I was really exited to find out that DD is the voice of main character, but it was really disappointed. He indeed sounded like he was about to sleep. Maybe 7 or 8 out of 10. But it has few of those about almost 10 moments.

Man Midway was killing it, I was sad when they went under, Area 51, The Suffering and it's sequel and Psi-ops all great game that just... nailed fun. They were great to play, they were great for combat, the lore, the secrets everything just felt really good about them. Then.. they sold it all, the Psi-ops lawsuit didn't help..... I just miss what we lost. Also Blacksite was trash, I wanted more cheese with David and Manson.
