Fantastic work, love this style of painting and this is a great example. The only thing I can't decide whether the blood effect needs a touch of purple, looks a bit too red but then again it does fit this style so well. Either way once again love the sense of movement and the colour theory.

I use the same effect for the blood, but I also add a bit of black ink to the mix - then the blood do not look so "candy like"

Oh yeah, I use a dark blackish brown like the Smoke Ink I have on the table in video, but in this case I wanted a powerful red to create some extra contrast with the desaturated red armour 😉

Loving your tutorials....John Blanche defines "grimdark" for me, and I'm always chasing how to emulate his style! They've inspired me to step out of my comfort zone, just bought a small pack of oil paints and some white spirits today to give a go this weekend! Quick question (and sorry if you've already answered it and I just missed it, I'm still catching up on your videos) - how do you chose your shadow and highlight tones based on the skin color? One more edit note is that, again, I am always really pleased with your artistic eye for color choice and "going away" from the current meta. Even though you call it blanchitsu it still feels more Art Book than the sketchy style sometimes found with John Blanches model work. Your use of green lighting brings this model into a whole different area than modern painting meta. It is intense. It is very "alive" thanks to the color use and style ends up giving it that something extra. Most people would consider that skin color for Nurgle but it works best here because it just feels unholy, unhealthy, but there is a kind of vigor again to the model that just ties it all together. Color choice drives that.

@@MarcoFrisoniNJM Its the skin tone + the green tinted over all lighting including the helmet being lit somewhat greenish yellow makes the flesh feel like it is almost glowing with unholy power. Made me think of OSL.. but not so strong as a lot of people do it. Either way. Love the work. Love it. It is well beyond my skill level, likely because I still struggle with color choice and your mastery of color is very obvious. I'd love a whole army done with this kind of sensibility. For every project I always have at least a couple of pictures as main reference in front of me and this helps a lot to bring your painting outside the miniature realm. You start copying the style and the sensations of the pictures understanding in hindsight the colour theory behind them but with time that kind of reasoning gets under your skin and you become able to recreate that same process and reasoning! Practicing in this way you get the best teachers in the history of fantasy, Sci-Fi and potentially art in general 😊
