I interpreted this line as a play on “if you love something let it go” and the idea that letting the one you love go signifies the purest form of love-i.e. sacrifice. So in one sense the line is a statement about the purity and depth of her love. The second meaning I inferred is more a statement about “his” love of the chase and conquest… because she loves him so much, he doesn’t give a shit. But if she loved him less, he might stick around to win her over. Maybe I’m inferring more than she meant, but I respect her so much as a songwriter and artist that I believe my assumption is right. She’s too clever for this to be an accident

I think she loves him unconditionally. She loves everything about him. The good & ugly. She loves his autonomy & doesn't want to condition his autonomy. That would be conditional love. You might want to try the Culture novels by Iain Banks then. The second book, The Player of Games, is widely regarded as the best entry point to the series. It's a about a gamer from the Culture (a galactic anarcho-communist society) who gets sent as a sort of ambassador to the Azad Empire, whose entire government structure is based entirely around an overwhelmingly complicated game whose winner becomes Emperor. The Culture is overall more sci-fi / space opera than medieval fantasy, but there's some more on-the-ground action in most of them, especially when the Culture is dealing with more primitive cultures, like in the eighth book, Matter, which features a medieval civilization living inside a massive contraption of planet-sized concentric spheres. Each book is a standalone story, so you can jump in wherever.

I feel like this is so multi-reflective of so many things. How a woman can feel quite neglected, also World of Warcraft, Sucker Punch, Star Wars, richest man in the US player of business games vibes, mars, aliens, space wars, all these surface stories of course.
