About the AW content, I can't speak for the algorithm, but I started watching the videos from your channel since the videos analyzing units (the classic "Are Neo Tanks worth it?"). Also, I tried watching AW matches commentary from other youtubers but their style didn't really click with me. You manage to provide good and fitting commentary, while being entertaining, funny, informative and giving interesting insight on the players, units, metagame and calculations. So, I try to watch your AW videos as soon as you post them!

I think a big limiter is the management teams dedication to keeping it work very close to how it would on the hardware. Which isn't a bad thing honestly but it does prevent them from innovating and trying new things and concepts that might have more broad appeal. So it'll probably stay niche as most of the people who are interested in Competitive advanced wars as is, are already aware and play AWBW.

I’ve always liked Grim guy because of his firepower despite his reduced defense. A glass cannon that will *punch a hole* through a wall if you need it. You will undoubtedly lose some units but it would be worth it if you save the strongest units for your plan on the high value targets.

Grimm Guy is what those in the TF2 community call a Fisherman or an engineer playstyle that basically baits people to charge up his Frontier Justice (a shotgun that gets crits via assists and kills from the sentry gun) before using those crits against them. He sets things up and baits the enemy player to brawl and then said opponent discovers that it was a trap and gets maulled.

I also noticed he plays the long game with resources. I'm not talking losing a single unit or capturing more buildings and bases. If you notice, in many smaller engangments, not the big battles, he only loses an infantry or a small tank but with grimms higher attack, 2 units are easily able to kill one of the same unit, like 2 infantry against 1. That creates a huge disadvantage in finances in the long run for his opp and let's him use his battle coppters more freely since anti air costs more than tanks and has way less movement. It forces his opp to build anti air which aren't that good for attacking or stalling with artillery. Stalling won't benefit you against grimm guy since he is very good with short term tactics.

One thing Lash can do with her SOP is reach artillery where the other guy only walled off the shortest route but left a way to drive around the blocker. In rain (on random weather) or through forests (anytime), it can be used to get a tank to hit those indirects. In a situation where you've already demolished all enemy indirects, it's just a glorified way to take engagements from cities. If Grimmguy built one less tank and one more artillery early on, Prime Tactics might have been useful in hitting that 3rd one, but Starflash activated his after the 2 artillery was already destroyed. I'm not really sure what to do with that. Sitting on the power is probably wrong, but at the same time the extra movement doesn't do much on this turn. Max's Max Blast or Andy's hyperupgrade are much better, giving the key units extra movement and firepower increases.

I started to play AW series with my emulator few weeks ago (used to play them when I was a teenager). Played AW1 (S-ranked normal campaign and beat the hard campaign and finally got all the CO's) and then AW2 (both campaigns S-ranked) and now I am looking for this online aspect of it. I am so glad that there is such a vibrant community aroung these games and your content is all I need to get ready for online. :)

I think the generell interest in AW was overcooked after the reboot camp. Especially after it was such a letdown. I know that I for one needed a bit of a break from it all. But now, with some distance, I can pretend it was all just a dream. Also, lots of peolpe making halfassed content seems to hurt a topic in general, as the algo can assume its the topic in itself that turns people off.

Mangs, Grimm guy aint playing defensive initially so he can go in for those counter attacks, he's just making the game 'fair' by letting the opponent get the first punch off! What an upstanding guy he is, showing that 'real' fair play is letting your opponent get the first hit, 'then' grinding them into dust in a very long brawl!

CO match up honestly. When the powers came in that's when you saw the big swing in my opinion. Prime tactics is too expensive and doesn't really give lash the ommph she needs. The biggest thing is how good Grimm guys plays are, the counter attacks are not designed to deal the most damage possible, but to minimize the enemies ability to retaliate against him. I think that's what really makes trading with him so dangerous. He pulls back when he achieves his goal and waits. So it's very hard to trade with grimm guy effectively unless your CO gives you enough of an edge to punish, because Grimm guys plays are rarely gonna be easy to punish themselves.

9:10 I think the logic is that as a glass cannon, Grimm wants to hit more than he gets hit to get ahead. The first attack tends to be on the edge of your reach, and the counter-attacker is the one getting more hits in in the exchange, assuming the unit wasn't completely stranded.

It just occurred to me what might be happening that's making Advance Wars content surge, because I certainly wasn't looking for or thinking about anything Advance Wars adjacent when you appeared in my feed. Two factors jump out at me, and I will list them in the order they occurred: First, Civilization 7 was just announced and is a hot topic strategy game with tanks and helicopters and soldiers and war, and they may be related enough genres of games that the algorithm connected the dots and is supplementing 4X news with Tactics competitive scene. Second, less fun, but the Big Wars that are happening and actively developing might be pushing War related content, moving from news to speculation/analysis to games based on the topic. I've been watching a lot of Civ 7 content, 4X content, and Ukraine war coverage, and then this stuff started appearing in my feed. Maybe drawing a conclusion that doesn't actually exist, but it's the best I can think of.
