What about this: As we all know, tensions have recently been rising between Russia and Lithuania because there is a trade blockade going on which affects the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad. So could the Russian Air Force conduct a successful surprise attack on Siauliai air base in Lithuania in order to basically scare them off? NATO fighter jets (Czech Gripens and Spanish legacy Hornets) are stationed there which would scramble when needed; Lithuania also possesses 2 NASAMS batteries which would defend their air base. Russia has Su-30SMs stationed in Kaliningrad and they might also launch several cruise missiles at stand-off range from bombers in Belarusian air space. The Su-30SMs would probably be superior compared to the rather old NATO fighters - but they also need to suppress the SAM sites with anti-radiation missiles in order to ensure that the cruise missiles will come through. This might make for an interesting scenario ...

For reference, an itano circus is a trope in anime when someone fires a ridiculous amount of missiles at a single target. Hey Cap, I love these types of test videos. Regarding the NASAMS, I think it's another case of DCS simply not being able to model the actual radar accurately. The US is using more modern radar than in-game assets. From the research I've done, the mobile radar used for the US Army and NASAMS itself is a mature system with multiple revisions, and it's based on AESA radar found in current-generation USAF fighter jets. However, it's possibly even more powerful than the version on the front of modern fighter jets due to the capability of hauling around the power supply/generator on the back of a vehicle rather than being forced to fit the generator, cooling, electronics, and mounting hardware all within the nose cone and airframe. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN/MPQ-64_Sentinel

Russian jets use JP54 which is a better kerosene for cold temperatures but has similar properties to other jet fuels when burned. The reason the afterburner on the tu-22m is blue is that it runs lean so the engine has more oxygen in the exhaust than needed to burn all the fuel. This is more efficient in theory but also much hotter than the fuel rich afterburner cycle found on jets like the F-111.

I hear the US AIr Force have tested the Hypersonic Missile. Therefore, I remember how Willie Coyote strap a rocket to his back. What is the maximum theoretical speed of the F14 air frame. Its maximum speed is 2.34 according to Google. Strap some boosters on the Frame of F14. I think a Japanese Anime, Robotech, had a jet that can strap booster to it for space flight.

They probably need to rethink how Russian systems in the game are presented. I can't see anyone wanting the S400. HIMARS destroyed an air base in Kherson protracted by S400. Other Russian systems have failed as well.

are the himars missiles stealth? or do they maneuver to evade air defense?
@pilotmanpaul2 жыл бұрын
@@alf3071 No. Right after the HIMARS attacks, it completely stopped for days on end yet each launcher should be capable of firing ALOT of shots with a Replishment FMTV with it. My guess is that Ukraine just kept firing the smart rockets till all of Russia's S-400 launchers ran out of tubes and the last ones got through.

Ukraine Pilots are going to be sent to USA to learn F15 and F16. How does these planes stack up to Russian planes. Could Ukraine gain air dominance with these plane?
@cz15892 жыл бұрын
No, both sides have enough air-denial systems. SAMS for High-altitude and manpads for low altitude. Thats why its mostly an artillery war now, putting serious limitations on using jets or helicopters.
@Anderson_Hwang2 жыл бұрын
@@cz1589 Its because the Russian air force has run out of standoff missiles, and cannot afford the risk to droo dumb bombs
@cz15892 жыл бұрын
@@Anderson_Hwang absolutely a factor, yes. Helicopters flying very low, firing missiles in a ballistic arch, less accurate but more safe, avoiding being shot down. Few people expected a war with air forces just playing a secondary role. Russians use their planes as launch platforms for cruise missiles. But both air forces have limited operation near the front line, trying to stay as short as possibile within range of anti-air systems. But coming back to the first note: air dominance isnt possible, neither very relevant for Ukrain. I dont see them training hundreds of pilots, and the idea of getting dozens of western fighters to make a difference is also not realistic. They dont need them for own terrain, and on the offensive the numbers will remain way too small. So its a surprize to most people, having a modern war with artillery as primary weapon, with the airforce in a supportive and decent role. Check Perun channel when you want an extensive explanation of this development. "Outgunned" is the video to watch.

Hypersonic missiles can only fly hypersonic above the atmosphere so their potential is nullified at close range where they don't have time to get high. Perhaps they are still supersonic in thicker atmosphere though; not sure about that.
@MrDJAK7772 жыл бұрын
That's just not true most new designs are based on ramjet/scramjet engine tech which are air breathing jet engine designs they quite literally can't operate above the atmosphere. Even for the hypersonic missiles in use for years now that use solid rocket propellent and do not require air to run( the s3/400 launchers for example can fire the 48n6e2/3 missile which is hypersonic at *mach 5.9* but has a max altitude of only 30 km still well within the atmosphere and it's got a minimum altitude of 5km so it clearly works inside just fine) our control surfaces would do nothing as there's no air to react against meaning they wouldn't be able to manuver at all without thrust vectoring channels for the exhaust and then some way to get thrusters up by the nose for control/stability. The only thing I can think of that you might be thinking of is ICBMs and their rentry vehicles as being ballistic missiles they work by being lobbed into low earth orbit where it coasts along a ballistic trajectory determined by launch/boost phase parameters and requires no maunevering to get on target afterwards as the rentry vehicles simply separates when at a set point of the trajectory and then continues to fall back to earth reaching high hypersonic speeds. But those are a completely different animal and truly massive (even sub launched ballistic missiles are huge) there's a reason so many space programs have been started by countries buying old ICBM rockets adding a third stage and replacing the warhead with a probe/satellite/telescope/etc.
@Idontwantahandle66692 жыл бұрын
Hypersonic missiles are different than ICBM’s and function in a completely different manner. They travel at hyper sonic speeds, through the atmosphere, in order to remain below the radar for as long as possible, to make them more difficult to detect. These are modern weapons, and the technology being used to develop them is leaps and bounds better than the Cold War era weapons that we’re all familiar with.
@samblackstone34002 жыл бұрын
A hypersonic cruise missile has to operate in the atmosphere. If it’s using a SCRAMjet then by definition it must be going above Mach 5 at all altitudes to stay powered. How is this done? Very very high tech ceramics.
@Plastikdoom2 жыл бұрын
As long as they had reloads, yes, to an extent they would, depends on the volume of missiles coming in and aircraft. And they can easily tag supersonic, and hyper sonic warheads. That’s what we’ve built them for and upgraded them to do at close range, for missiles. They are the short range missile defense…and no THAADS? Lol, why, cause they’ll win? Along with SM-3’s. The newest patriots as of a couple years ago, are insane in range and accuracy. For a close range system. And THAADS, even more so.

The S400 and panzir were ineffective in Syria and are in Ukraine. They are said to be able to intercept Himars too and unable to do that. On game and in real world their effectiveness seems to have been played up. Russia playing a bluff or the manufacturer overplaying it's capabilities ???
@cz15892 жыл бұрын
It seems an software issue. They need to patch their radar systems to track and intercept Himars. Might take 6 months, according to a programmer.

@@cz1589 Makes sense. It's not fully matured as a system, most modern air defense have similar problems when they're introduced.
@MrDJAK7772 жыл бұрын
Export models are heavily gimped. In several known/openly stated ways (100 target max) but it's not like they have to tell anyone all the ways they were. they only really reach the high levels of capabilities when they are in large complexes with several different types of launchers/scanners with different missiles for different tasks but it's ridiculously expensive to have one s-3/400 site fully decked out with all accompanying systems the way the Russians suggest. Also while heavily computerized you still need people capable of making the most out of the system and still needs to be maintained. They are part mobile too and not always scanning and even if they are no guarantee it's looking at the right time/place. Plus they've been hacked and made to give a false return of an empty sky by Israel years ago. nowadays F35s using their barracuda EW system should be able to take over s300-s400 sites in a similar way but from the air instead of through massad while also hitting them with half a dozen jamming techniques from the same piece of equipment. And even in situations the f35 couldn't pull off a full injection/spoofing the jamming at minimum would further reduce the range they could get a lock on something with the F35s tiny RCS allowing them to easily get in range to hit the Sam site with long range A2G/anti radiation missiles before they were ever at risk of being in range they could get locked onto at.
