You might think of this as a preliminary attack, targeting the typical ground facilities normally subjected to aerial bombardment partly as a distraction from the real target but also to thin out the defences.

Cap, I would enjoy to see the GR team take off from Modern day carriers loaded with a MOAB each to bomb Japan in a modern day Dolittle's raid . But set in the correct time period it occoured. Please have plenty of Zero's making it a challage for the boys !

Kerosene was invented prior to gasoline. The first use of petroleum distillates in modern terms was lamp kerosene and put the whale oil out of business (big petro actually saved the whales). In fact, gasoline was an unwanted by-product that was flushed into the rivers and streams surrounding distillation plants. Producers didn't like gasoline because it was too unstable (read flammable). The Germans originally chose diesel and the English followed to some degree in early automotive design up to and including for their war machines and tanks because it was less likely to blow up if they encountered a fire or exploding projectile. Also, because of the ability of kerosene to stay fluid at high altitude and under cold conditions (and in Europe it was in greater supply) jets were designed with kerosene (Jet A) in mind. Gasoline gels and gets thick when it's really cold so warmers have to be used (so it's not great for jets). Diesel has always been an "also ran" second choice in America since the automobile age took a hold of everything so we always got dirty sulfurous diesel.

@@jefferynelson whale oil was the lamp oil for the world and they got to the point of industrial harvesting of whales. A few more years of that and we’d be short a few species of whales presently. Kerosene came in (standard oil) and sold three times more lamp time for half the price and there seemed to be no losses or downsides, like sinking ships or stolen cargos. Kerosene put whale oil producers out of business on simple economics. It took another 80 years to convince 70% of the world to stop eating whale meat but now whale are mostly back. So the argument can be made that accidentally and without purpose and strictly through economic pressures, the Standard Oil company saved the earth’s whale population from slaughter for reading lamps.

Very interesting stuff! Pretty damned ironic also, to the point of comedy. The current-day "Save the Earth" crowd hates diesel fuel because on diesel vehicles, be it a sedan or a container ship, the exhaust byproduct is immediately visible; diesel engines smoke, you can see it and smell it. As a result, when you say diesel fuel, many people think *dirty*. HOWEVER - I've heard that when you factor in the entire refining process, gasoline/petrol actually releases more pollution and does more damage to the environment... despite that ugly, stinky diesel exhaust. I'm not an environmental scientist, just passing along what I've read & heard. ANOTHER EXCELLENT VID CAP & GR! Keep up the great work 😎🍻

not sure which version of the RB-15F we had at the time but we were told that it could split a carrier..... the really amazing thing is that you can if set up propperly launch it on on side of an island and having fly round it to hit it's target that didn't even know you where there

LRASM is fitted to B1B and F18 currently. Sweeds are also interested in getting them. Also capable of being launched by the mk41 from ships using rocket booster to help get to altitude. Reversing taxi back to hangar was a nice touch.

The bismark not being able to shoot the sword fish because they were too slow is a myth. they were able to shoot them but the combination of canvas and no proximity fuses meant they were ineffective. Why are the taildraggers so squirrely on the ground? They're always all over the place as they're taking off. Is it an effect of the prop or gear configuration or something?

Both, the torque from prop, the independent left/right breaking..(not everyone has toe brake functions on their pedals so it's a bit.. on/off.. if using keys). Etc. 😊

Just out of curiousity, guys. Howcome you guys rarely utilise the VSTOL capabilities of the Harrier? Is it because it's a hard thing to do, as it is in real life?

One of the Harriers did land at the FARP during the mission. But the mission would be over in 5 mins if they started there.

And i did a VTOL landing in the end, but reality is if you want to take weapons and fuel, you will be do a short takeoff.

If you watch the harrier trying to do VSTOL with full bomb and bag loadout, it just does not work well when heavy, he barely made it in the air before taxiway ended.

You look a bit under gunned matey. Mosquito, typical for FB Mk VI Armaments; 4 x Browning .303 Machine Guns, 4 x 20mm Hispano Cannons Offensive load out, the mosquito would've also carried 2000lb or around 900+KGS Bombs or 8 RP-3 Unguided Rockets, Mosquito/TSETSE; Armaments consisted of 4 x 20mm Hispano Cannons 1 x 6lb 57mm auto cannon, a gun that actually slowed the aircraft down every time it was fired, awesome weapons, great for attacking shipping, convoys of armoured vehicles and troops and arms transporting armoured trains, something the Nazis used a lot of.
