Hey can ya'll test to see if it's possible to VTOL directly onto a CV elevator while the elevator is down? Is it possible to just land and go right into the hangar without needing to traverse the deck? Could they take off from there?

My Grandad actually took part in this landing - the hot shrapnel raining down from the anti-aircraft shells was so bad that he unrolled his sleeping mat and put it over himself.

Malta was never invaded by the Axis (if that is what I heard) I'd pretty sure that the Allies did conduct fighter sweeps and bombers from Malta as my Grandfather (long since departed) flew Liberator bombers from there. It's how he met my Grandmother actually.

That must have been pretty late - at one point Malta only had 3 Gloucester Gladiators as its airwing.

@@tomriley5790 yeah it would have been, probably 43 onwards, not sure though. He had an Africa medal among others so was probably stationed in Nth Africa for a bit before ending up in Malta.
