I quit playing DCS because I am not a big online player......I would much rather set up a game scenario (or in this case, random scenario) and go at it myself. ED needs to buy this, upgrade it, and implement.

They can't buy it! It's Open Source software, and they are doing it for free. ED can even use it as is for commercial purpose if they wanted to. AFAIK ED is working on their own engine, which is fully integrated into the DCS client.

For loadouts, it will read from DCS now. So you can make loadouts that you like to use and select them in Liberation without having to do anything special. When Liberation is started it will look for saved loadouts in DCS for each aircraft and allow you to select them. You can also set a custom default loadout by saving with Liberation followed by the loadout type, for example with you in mind Cap, a custom CAP loadout would be saved as "Liberation CAP" :)

I hope ED picks this up, secondly I wish you could have a battlefield commander slot on the red side, while automated AI controlled is nice. Having a unpredictable human making choices during the mission could lead to some amazing things..

Wow never heard about this, but it opens a world of possibilities for multiplayer Imagine 2 teams fighting over dominance, managing resources, slinging resources, earning cash, having to decided what to buy and what not to buy, being cautious about deploying forces, taking strategically important locations for extra resources It would be like a rome total war 2 multiplayer campaign, the potential its unlimited, im wondering if dcs weak netcode can handle it tou

Transfer: Ground units will be transfered from factories to the frontline. They build convois in the mission that can be intercepted, and are available at the front when they travel from the factory. On step for each mission. If you destroy the factory, the ground units cant be produced there anymore.

My all-time favorite is the DI Tornado campaign. For me it has the perfect balance of complexity, playability, immersion. This is partially because it has a very limited number of units. Less realistic but more transparent (to casual sim commanders at least). Knock out comm nodes and you get better recce data because the opponent has to use less secure comm lines. With better recce you get info about what aircraft type is operating from which of the four (4) enemy airfields, or information about AAA and SAM positions. With that info you can decide to knock out interceptor bases or CAS bases. Knock out the enemy AWACs to have an advantage in the air. Knock out SAMs so you could attack from higher altitudes with LGBs. Two Tornado variants (ground attack and air defense variant). Tornado with hires graphics and better flight model.... Actually, Liberation seems to be closer to the DI Tornado campaign then to Falcon BMS. Makes sense to me since I doubt that DCS will be able to manage the same crazy number of units as BMS.

I was having a blast with this add on but last month or so after about 3 or 4 missions none of the other missions will take off except AWACS,KC and the BAR CAP flights for the base or ship. No other flights take off for either side.

I used it for a while but found it annoying as the AI doesn't do what you ask of it. Makes having to repeat missions several times which then becomes repetative and boring.

Thanks for the video. Does anybody know what the "time period" (1:51) is for? Does it impact the availability of aircraft, ground vehicles etc? Just asking because in the next step (selecting coalitions) you can also choose the era.

@@grimreapers In the menu there is also the (sort of) working "restrict weapons by date" button, wo you can play historically. This is based on the time period chosen.

Some changes have taken place, click the link that takes you to the instructions/manual and read them. Custom factions now go in saved games>dcs>liberation>factions folder and you've got to create it. Then once created they populate at the bottom of the factions list not in alphabetical order. I headscratched a bit too until I RTM.

Its a great addition to DCS but with the Hind I am unable to arm my rockets and guns and Petrovich says Weapons are disabled when I tell him to prepare the weapons. I don't have any of these problems in multiplayer or when I create my own missions but it is a problem for me in Liberation 4.0

Yes, the AI is completely unsuited for such complex scenarios. When playing liberation I find myself setting up complex trigger logic in the mission editor just to actually get the AI to do what I want it to do.

Is this software safe to install? I heard that it can open up ports on your computer and let bad actors in. Has that been addressed because I would like to run this.

Not only is it safe, you don't "install" you just copy from the zip to where you want it. Nothing is opened at all.

He is correct about this they switch a lua file out of DCS that allows scenario content outside of DCS ie your whole computer. They switch it back on program exit so from that stand point they seem ok. The program also has a lot of python code _pycache_ not an expert but some of the folders like phone and other stuff does not seem to have anything to do with DCS. Regarding install I don't understand what you mean by that if its on your computer it is installed. Check your app data folder. I cleared off my computer nice idea too much baggage

I’ve played Liberation quite a bit. In my opinion it’s not really built for a server in the usual sense. It’s much more aimed toward single player or small group.

I think BMS (and the original F4) had a different way to simulate the massive amount of units: those who were far away from the player bubble were not fully simulated. E.g. a dogfight was decided by rolling a dice in the background rather than simulating the aircrafts. A bit like what the X3/X4 space sims are doing: units in a different sector played it out like a good old tabletop while units in the same sector as the player were actually flying and fighting. I think for any sim that uses thousands of units this is the only way to go until we PCs with 1k cores :-)

@@slowhornet4802 I'm fine with that. It works. If you are not seeing it, you don't need it fully simulated. It's just a waste unless you have infinite resources as you said. DCS' engine is extremely unoptimised already as it is.

@Jan Brady its an old sim from the 90s based on the f16 falcon, it has a nice dynamic campaign system and better AI i would say, but its only for the lonely ones, since multi player its basically a pain in the a...

Falcon 4 modified by the Falcon BMS team. You need the original F4 (pretty low price tag) in order to use the BMS mod. You can fly different aircraft although the F-16 is the most realistic one (since it was the original and only flyable airframe). Campaign is always running (even if you are not flying) and simulating hundred (or thousands?) of units. Air, ground, naval units. Logistics, factories etc. simulated. But it can be overwhelming to the casual pilot / commander.
