Grindelwald Jungfraujoch Top of Europe Switzerland - What to do in Switzerland in Summer
Berner Oberland Bahn Train ride from Interlaken to Europe's highest train station
This travel video is part of a series of Switzerland vlogs in 4K Ultra HD (which also are my Switzerland travel diary) will hopefully provide some answers to these and more questions you may have: What do you go see in Switzerland and what to do in the Jungfrau Region? What is the Switzerland travel experience and what to do in Switzerland in summer? What are the best places to stay in Switzerland and what to see in the Swiss Alps? What are the best places to visit in Switzerland? Where do I go in Switzerland and and what can I see in Switzerland?
If you were wondering what to go see in Switzerland and what to do in the Swiss Alps, this video may give you an idea. A trip to the Jungfraujoch is certainly one of the highlights of any travel to Switzerland. Stick around to the end of this video for many tips on this amazing trip, including price and savings, when to go and what to bring with you.
The Jungfrau mountain is one of the most famous mountain peaks in Europe. With an elevation of 4,158 meters, or 13,642 feet above sea level, it thrones high above the beautiful Lauterbrunnen valley. The whole Jungfrau region in this part of the Swiss Alps gets is name from this majestic mountain in the Bernese Oberland Switzerland.
The Jungfraujoch is a glacier saddle that connects the Jungfrau and the Mönch, which is another world famous 4000er in the Bernese Oberland. It lies at an elevation of 3,463 meters (11,362 ft) and is directly overlooked by the Sphinx mountain.
The Jungfrau line is the railway that connects Interlaken via the Kleine Scheidegg to the Jungfraujoch. It runs partially underground in a tunnel through the Eiger and Mönch mountains. The Jungfraujoch railway station, at an elevation of 3,454 meters (11,332 ft) is the highest in Europe. It is world famous and also known as the “Top of Europe”. About 1 million tourists travel to the Jungfraujoch every year, which makes it one of the most important and most visited travel destinations and tourist destinations in Switzerland.
The train into the mountain leaves from Kleine Scheidegg, which can be reached by trains from Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen with the Berner Oberland Bahn. The train enters the tunnel running eastward through the Eiger shortly after leaving Kleine Scheidegg.
The terminus of the Jungfrau Railway connects directly to the Sphinx observatory via a short tunnel and Switzerland’s fastest elevator and to the Top of Europe building, which includes several panoramic restaurants, shops, exhibitions, and a post office.
What else can you do at Jungfraujoch? When you are at one of the highest train stations in the world, you should also check out the Jungfrau Panorama platform, and take walk to the glacier plateau. Back inside the Top of Europe building, the Lindt Swiss chocolate experience shop awaits you. Here you can put together your own mix of delicious Swiss chocolates. If you are a chocolate fan like me, you don’t want to miss this one!
Please also check out my other videos on my travel to Switzerland, including my trip to Grindelwald and the surrounding mountains and valleys of Wengen, Lauterbrunnen, Lucerne, Interlaken, Zermatt and so much more. Thank you for all the hard work you did to put together your videos. While they are all beautiful your videos with tips and suggestions are so good! May I make a request for a video? Would covering how to get around Switzerland be a good topic? Public vs renting a car - especially if you plan to go to smaller locations vs just the big cities.

First and foremost, I take my hat off and give my standing ovation to the true heroes who had built the tunnel. Jungfraujoch definitely showcases one of Switzerland’s most cutting edge technology that is worth visiting. And how I cried😭😭😭 looking at those assorted selections of Lindt chocolates because they cost at least twice or thrice over here! Thanks again, Janus, for this amazingly insightful vid👍🏻😃🌻!

On the Jungfraujoch are some new tunnels since 2012. For example the ones with the escalator you would usually find in an airport or the one with the small glass bridge. My dad was actually the engineer in charge of this project. Kind of proud that he is part of such an amazing project that the top of Europe is.

Fun fact: the reddish dust covering the snow in this video (but especially easy to see between 6:15 and 6:55) is actually dust from the sahara that gets carried to the alps after large sandstorms in Africa and then deposited here. Pretty wild, eh?

If anyone is considering doing that walk in the snow that he showed just keep in mind the elevation. I've done the walk on Sulphur mountain in Banff Canada at 8,000 feet as well as hikes into Bryce Canyon USA at about 8,500 feet and been to the summit of Mauna Kea at 13,800 feet. This place is 11,300 feet. For me, an out of shape person who lives at sea level the change up to 8K feet wasn't too bad but that was mostly flat walking on a nice wooden structure. At 8.5K the hike back out of Bryce canyon was definitely felt and I had to stop numerous times. The last time I went up to the summit of Mauna Kea just walking around on a level surface for maybe a hundred yards left me as tired and dizzy. Lots of people in the video so probably safe but just be careful :) Oxygen level at: Sea Level- 20.9% 8,000 ft / 2,438 m - 15.4% 9,000 ft / 2,743 m - 14.8% 11,000 ft / 3,352 m - 13.7% 13,000 ft / 3,962 m - 12.7%

Thank you for sharing Komainu. You are absolutely right, that walk will not be for everyone. I found the soft snow the most challenging to walk on. It's a bit like walking on sand - just takes even more effort.

An alternative to paying the large amount of money to go to the top of the Jungfrau would be as I did (who could'nt afford the hundreds of Pounds for 2 people) is just to go to Kleinne Schideg (for great views) which is much cheaper and also the rest of the journey to the top is in tunnel anyway. I also went to the top of the Schiltorn which is a spectacular trip and again much much cheaper than the |Jungfraujoch.

Hi Januslog , I would like to thank you for the great and informative videos about Switzerland , please continue to cover other regions as well , I’m planning a trip to Switzerland in summer starting 15th of June coming from Dubai , thinking to hire a small car at Zurich Airport , would like a suggestion from you about the best route to visit the most important places by car or if you don’t recommend the car what would be the other transport means to achieve that trip , appreciate the time you spend to reply . Regards, Moustafa
@januslog
@januslog 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching Moustafa. Exploring Switzerland by car will give you the most flexibility and this is what I did for the most part too. But traveling by train is also a viable option. You may save some money if you get your rental car in Italy or France and drive into Switzerland. In terms of routes, there is indeed so much to see. I am working on editing quite a lot more videos on different parts of Switzerland. Coming from Zurich, you may want to include Lucerne, Lungern, Interlaken and the Bernese Oberland in your trip. I’d also visit the Valais and Zermatt, the French part with Montreux and the lake Geneva region and the Ticino, Lugano and Locarno for example. Basel to the Northwest and the Heidiland region in the Northwest are really beautiful too. Greetings to Dubai 👍

Aloha! When was the video footage actually captured? Trying to get an idea of the weather conditions for my trip there toward the end of this month (Sep 2021). Thanks!

Hi Gene, this was recorded in the month of August. You may have similar weather conditions in September but it’s really quite unpredictable in the mountains

Hi, please check out their website for the full map of the important stations. www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/corporate/ I don’t have a detailed map of some of the smaller stations but you can see them in Google maps.

This is one of the best descriptive logs. Usually they're dominated by the narrator's face filling the screen, with maybe (at best) 10% views, along with oppressive "music".

Any of these places are fine. When you stay in Grindelwald or Muerren, you will avoid the daily train ride into the mountains.

If you had time for only one....Jungfrau or First?
@januslog
@januslog 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a tough one! They are quite different. If you want to experience snow, go on Europe’s highest mountain railway and see a glacier up-close, go for the Jungfrau. If you prefer to go on a cliff walk, see cows, lakes, green meadows with a snow-capped mountain panorama, go for First. I’ll be posting a video on First and Bachalpsee shortly so see what you like better.
