GRINDER PUMP MAINTENANCE PART 1

In today's video, we walk you through some of the steps we take when we are performing a preventative maintenance on a grinder pump or lift station. This is the first video in a series that will cover necessary tests that record how your grinder pump is performing. It is crucial to perform this maintenance on a consistent schedule, we recommend quarterly for most systems. Recording this data can let us know how a system is doing. We can also possibly prevent emergency situations before they occur by catching them ahead of time and making repairs. There are many steps in a preventative maintenance. I think I got a grinder pump under the stairs, a few years ago it failed and water backed up into the basement. Today my toilet clogged so bad even a snake won't fully unclog it so I'm wondering if the grinder pump is out.

I’m replacing my pump tomorrow. I was told it’s bad to test the pump dry like this. Can I test the new one before I drop it?

Thanks for commenting. We call this particular pump a "no clog" pump. From our experience, it doesn't hurt it to kick it on for a second to make sure its not jammed. There are, however, pump that we don't run dry. I would ask the manufacturer if I were you before you do anything you're unsure of.

Bardia Ghajari a lot can go wrong on these pumps. There are many components and some fail in order to save the pump itself. Maintenance is important on lift stations
