Grinder wheel wobble fix, on all grinders, chainsaws included

I have been going through the same problem too, I made new mounting plates and its much better now but not perfect, I have ordered some spherical washers for behind the nut, I will let you know how it goes when I get them, I also tried a CBN wheel, they are very smooth to use and much less heat.

I remember last week I Swapped over from 3.2mm wheel on chainsaw grinder to 4.8mm wheel took me 20 goes to get it right. Other times it runs dead straight 1st try. On my stihl USG grinder never a problem, must be lucky

To fix the problem I just made new cardboard gasgets from a old exercise book and that normally works well. The problem is the aluminium oxide wheel have a porous surface that is not 100% flat that is why you see thin paper sticker each side of the wheel. Sometimes you need thicker paper to eliminate wheel wobble

All my spherical washers are ok it's the paper gasget that is causing the problem

I bought a new cheapisg 6in grinder. One wheel was rather bad. No matter what i tried it would just be bad. I finally stripped the unit down and put the shaft into my lathe. What i found out was that the right side shaft was machined incirrectly. It was crooked. Not sure how that happens but there it was. Soon i will be machining it straight. But that will require making spacer and such. So if the wheel just doesnt balance after all the tricks, check the machining of the shaft.

@@ChainsawUsers no idea but I saw no damage to the box or packing. For sure nothing that would have bent the end. Again, anything is possible but no sign of anything that would have alerted me.

Make things cardboard washers then mount it and test it again for wobble

it doesn't seem like your cardboard made any difference at all - it was "moving it to another spot", you didn't really explain what you were doing there but if I understand it was rotating the cup washer, which probably is warped and the source of the lateral runout.

The cup washer is ok. Most cheaper wheels have a small amount of wheel run out. My Stihl USG wheels are of much better quality and have paper gasgets on both sides. Cheaper pink oxide wheels with paper on one side only normally have more wobble run out. Even my 8 inch bench grinder has some wheel runout
