I have had this bench grinder for several years and barely used it due to bad vibration.
I decided to try dressing the grinding wheel to see if it helps.
the grinder was manufactured in 1987 and still runs good.

Mine's been doing this for 40 years so I permanently mounted it to my bench last weekend. Watched to the end. That was awesome!

Good job! Dressing the wheels on my grinder worked for one wheel - yay! - but not the other. I was going to toss that one but it's a 36 grit wheel so I'll just store it and mount it only when need to do some rough grinding. As for your cheapo steel wire wheel -- instead of flanges on both sides one could try a flat washer on one side. Worked for me.

You know i mounted my bench grinder to an old brake rotor i made into a stand using the whole old axle and all so i knew it was going to be straight and sturdy. Got the thing bolted down then it wouldnt spin up anymore.. i looked and looked why, had it in pieces. Turned out one of the feet come off and took the whole thing out of kilter locking up the rotor when screwed down. Wasted 3 hours of my life scratching my head over a damn foot..

Never knew you could grind a grinding wheel, wow! Nice to know thank you! I bought an 8" grinder from HF. Way too much power and waaaaay too much vibration with anything I mount on it. The wheel guards were too small and scraping the wheels which infuriated me. I bought 8" wheels - wire, grinder, buffing. All scraping the guards to the point that the grinder wont work. After I removed all the guards, the vibration was so intense. In your case, the wire wheel is too large for the guard. Stupid Chinese design!! Mount the wheel on your angle grinder and wear it down a bit then it will work. Use an apron and goggles. Those wires stick to your clothing and don't come off in laundry and each time you wear that same shirt, it pokes hard on your skin like a pin! I have some questions for anyone here. I need advice. Total novice to bench grinders. 1. How safe to work without any guards? 2. Will a 6" grinder have less overall vibration? 3. My grinder does not have variable speed. I think this may be useful as I polish everything from jewelry to silver teapots, metal pans, plastic, etc. Any recommendations for me on best bench grinder 6" with variable speed? Dewalt has good reviews on the smaller 6" version, but bad reviews on 8" version. Neither has variable speeds. 4. What to do if mounting spindle is too long and buffing disc is not sitting snugly and wobbling off center due to spacing. I've added rubber washers (!!) plus metal washers to make up space but it is still loose. I have a smooth spindle at 7/8" or 5/8" diameter (not sure) so what sort of thingie bushings /nuts do I need to slip on to cover the space so final nut fits snugly on the polishing cloth wheel? I urgently need advice. Please anyone? So many projects piling up.

I answered all your?? Sure put u threw a testing! I've heard good things about them. We did great. Welcome. What's difference between brass n silver. I took my wheel off n put the silver on. I don't fit right it's Way up against the machine. This is supposed to be a brand new that somebody gave me. Looks like hell because somebody's been messing with it. On the new beginner of this tool thing so I have issues. My dad passed away and I got his bench saw. Used it twice in blade. Learn the lesson I don't turn too sharp. I won't be doing that much so harbor freight here I come I might just order it online it's easier you know it's cold and all. I enjoyed your video and love that you ask questions and talk to me like I was there and I answered him. Thank you keep up stay safe and wear your mask get your shots

Supposed to mount it to something stable like the bench, hence the name bench top grinder.

While you’re not wrong, the wheel needed to be dressed and balanced. Mounting a grinder to something doesn’t just magically fix that issue ✌🏻

No. Properly balanced and dressed stones will run dead quiet and smooth. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
