Today I'll be using the Kubota B2601 Compact Tractor with the ‪@woodlandmills‬ WG24 Stump Grinder. I'll grind a few smaller stumps, but how big can you go? Well, I'll also try to grind a stump with a diameter of more than 36 inches! Can this little tractor do it? Watch and see!

I did a stump with my WG24 that was over 8 ft diameter above ground and was nearly twice that by the time I was done. It took some time, but imagine what a pro would have charged me for that stump. I've covereed the cost of my grinder a couple times over in two years. Been really happy with it.

I have the same stump grinder on my kioti ck3510se and it's a beast. I live in the woods on 6 acres and had over 40 dead trees cut down. They varied in size from 12 inches all the way up to over 5 feet at the base. I had several companies come out and give me quotes on grinding all the stumps and they ranged from$4500 to $6000. I bought the woodland mills stump grinder for around $2500 shipped and ground out all the stumps in two weekend's. I've also had a few more trees fall since then and grind those out also. Great investment on my part. I've even been asked by neighbors to grind their stumps and I've made a nice little bit of cash on the side. So it has more than paid for its self and then some.

There is a lock lever to prevent bumping it. Maybe I should remember that next time 🤣

Yeah, have done that once. I was amazed at how effective the new braking feature was. Leaving wood chips in the soil like you did will speed the rotting of the stump. That area will likely be lower in nitrogen too. Not a problem with grass but watch it to see if you start getting other grasses or weeds in the area.

He Ed, It looks you are starting to get the hang of it. I own the same unit and I really learned alot from the Timber Vision channel. He has one video that shows you exactly what the manual means about grinding right to left. If I had any tips for you it would be to make sure you are indeed grinding on the right side of the rise of the stump and don't backup with the flywheel down. If you ever go to adjust, or check, the slip clutch I highly suggest taking the shaft off and doing that on the bench. Much easier than being on your back. Thanks for sharing!

To quote Kipling, “You’re a better man than I Gunga Din!” I would have backed into those stones and knocked a few chips around. That seemed like it worked really well for you. I rented a commercial one this fall (with a neighbor) and we got 25 stumps done in a day. Cheers!

I’m sure you know this, but backing into a stump will wear on the bolt heads and it will be difficult to remove them or torque them tight.

Hi Ed, I did a big douglas fir stump about the same size as your big boy. I have learn little bites about 1" deep work great and reduce side movement and sway (front to back tilt) Size doesnt mean anything just take your time like you are doing and you will be fine, sky the limit. Still think you need to tighten the clutch a bit, noticed a couple times it is stalling . My woodland mills grinder has paid for itself in one year.

That was a big stump! Well done. Taking it slow works. Do you have the hinge pin removed so the grinder can jump up if need be? Handy implement, thanks for showing how it works.

Thanks Ross. Yes the hinge pin is removed. I think the clutch would slip before the grinder would bounce up though. At least on this small tractor.

Good morning Ed. My question is why not start grinding on the left side first then you are throwing your chips on what you have ground up instead onto what you have to grind. Have a merry Christmas

Good question! I agree, but if you start on the other side, the grinder will dig in and try to jump over the stump. But I may try it sometime anyway, especially with a smaller stump. Thanks!

Much much better operation of the new stump grinder, Ed. I have the turnbuckle sway bar adjustments on my lower 3-point arms and have them really tight and I don't see the shifting and bouncing during the operation of mine like you occasionally do. Just an observation. Otherwise, you can't argue with the results! Looks so much better, and will much easier to NOT mow around. Just curious, can you not see the 6-9 o'clock position of the grinder blade while looking under your left shoulder? That gives me my best view on my L2502.

Unfortunately, I can't see the flywheel at all. But I'm learning where it is, relative to the body of the grinder. I guess like driving a car and knowing you're within the lines. Maybe I should put some ratchet straps on my sway bars and see if that helps? Thanks much!

@@MyClutteredGarage I guess the 3-point quick hitch must be in your way. Or maybe the armrest on your seat? I don't have either and can see the leading edge fairly well, although I am practically laying my right shoulder on the steering wheel to look under my left shoulder lol, so I mainly just look when I set the depth of cut (lowering the 3-point), and then just gauge how well it is cutting based on the sound of the tractor and a glance at the debris being created.

Hey Ed, did you buy the stump grinder, or rent it? If you bought it, what was the decision process? Do you have a couple dozen stumps to grind, or is it that they are just not available to rent?

Hi John. I didn't even look into renting. The decision was based on the fact that I not only have several stumps to grind now, but I'll be cutting trees and paths in the woods, so there will be several more. Rather than wait until I have enough to justify a rental, I'll just grind them as I go along. Plus, I like owning my own equipment... even when it may not be totally logical. :)

Still am! But I replaced the top link hook with one from Ken’s boltonhooks.com The HF top hook was not deep enough. Also check with goodworkstractors.com. Courtney sells a nice one that does not require bushings. Either way, tell Ken or Courtney I sent you!
