Great topic,.It will be a topic for years to come. What's interesting are all the commonalities. Mexicans come to the US for a better life, and Gringos are coming to México for a better life as well. Many Gringos live in MX and don't speak the language, and vice versa. I'm Gringa and live in Guadalajara. I am here because I LOVE Mexicans and the Mexican culture. I relate to the culture here more than in the US and always have. I do speak Spanish well enough and continue to take classes. Porque... ¡¡Quiero ser Mexicana también!! 🇲🇽 ¡¡Viva México!! 🇲🇽 It's my cup of tea(quilla). Paz para todos. ✌

I moved to my wifes hometown in a small fishing village two years ago. Its not easy immigrating by any means. So my gringo advice is this: if you are moving to mexico to save money, mexico is not your backyard to go and live how you want. Mexico has a deep history and its customs and traditions run deep. Put an effort in to learn the customs, talk to local people, etc. Much of it doesnt make sense to an american brain. You really have to prove that you arent trying to take an advantage. Your "good deeds" go unnoticed if youre an asshole. Remember, its not YOUR country, do not expect anything. If you are gracious, try to take it all in, keep it mellow, keep it quiet, and always remember to be humble.

I live in a sundown town in the southern US. I had no ideA it was a sundown town. Im hispanic. I opened the cuteest bakery/antique shop. Constant customers of Hispanic, Latino descent would warn me that " the bolios in this town were not going to let me succeed." I ignored the warnings because i was so optimistic. Sure enough, the city officials made up shit like " maam youll need to cut down that tree or you will not get your occupancy title" Why? I asked? that tree is in no ones way, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with that tree!!! "Maam cut down that tree or else". Or else what? You wont be able to conduct business here, thats what. Watching my husband cut down that 200 plus year old beautiful tree hurt me to my core. I learned so much about gringos that day.
