Thanks so much for this video! I'm learning Spanish and lately I've been so overwhelmed. I try several different techniques and sometimes it can be a bit much. Many people tell about how they learned Spanish but never mention the discouraging side of language learning. It's good to be able to relate to someone. This video has given me that extra push and encouragement to keep learning!

Awesome! Thanks so much for this amazing comment. I'm glad it resonated with you. It's not that they're dishonest (but sometimes) it's that we just remember things "romantically" like I talked about in the story. We just have to try really hard to remember things accurately (impossible, but the closer the better). Good luck!

Muchas gracias por explicar todo tan bien y de forma tan clara y ordenada. Me ha encantado tu historia de cómo aprendiste español y cómo te hizo cambiar tu viaje a Holanda. ¡Es increíble! And yes, the point is to get obsessed with. It happened to me by the time I learnt English. I'm absolutely in love with this language and, if I even do some mistake (as I probably did when I wrote this message), I still in love with it. Thanks again for being so clear and organized. Greetings from Barcelona! ¡Un saludo, amigo!

You sir, are amazing. I wish I had found your videos half a year ago. In my college spanish courses, all of which are spoken in spanish, you're thrown into the class expected to learn and understand everything at a ridiculous pace. Almost everyone in my classes had past Spanish background and it made me feel terrible and awful feeling like the only person in the class who was constantly terrified and had no idea what was going on, and I've struggled with immense feelings of frustration and hopelessness with the class because I don't even know where to start. You really know and understand the struggle of a learning Spanish speaker and you do an incredible job conveying that and giving hope and inspiration to people like me who felt like they were alone in this. Huge thank you! I have one more quarter left in my courses and with your content and help in what direction to take (seriously, I can't emphasize how much I've struggled in not even knowing what to do or where to start)
@elspanishdude6 жыл бұрын
That's awesome. Thanks for this message. Yes, I totally get you. And now you know, you are not alone. And to be honest, you're actually normal. Your situation sounds like a difficult one. But one you can overcome for real. It seems like so much, and feel like so much, but if it's anything like high school Spanish, it's not that much. IN Spanish 1 and 2, they just don't cover that much. If you focus on one thing at a time, and I think I have videos at this point on most Spanish 1 and 2 topics, you'll be good. Irregular verb conjugations suck. In the present/past only. There's just so many and the only way to learn them is time and practice. But everything else, the logic behind everything, it's not that hard. And there's not that much. Once you take irregular conjugation out of it, and the hardest lo/le/se examples, there's really not that much. Did you download the Spanish Battle Plans? Do that! You'll see, there's really not that much. And those are great checklists.

I live in California. Spanish is spoken everywhere. I have a passion to become fluent. With the help of a Colombian girlfriend(now an ex), traveling to Colombia once with her and once alone and living in Argentina for a few months and immerse myself by force have all been additional tools to what I already knew from school (4 years)... I have found making it an effort to interact native speakers and I always ask Puedo practicar mi español contigo? Never once I was told No. Do exactly what Spanish dude says because he’s right about how to learn. And for treatment, I have experienced excellent treatment here and abroad.. frankly I look like the textbook gringo and Spanish speakers love it when I speak with them In Spanish. It Blows them away.

very very very true! I started learning Spanish through Duolingo..and though they have a very good step by step way of teaching Spanish, but after the first few lessons, I was hella confused in vocab and spellings..and seeing how much more I have to go, it scared me, and I eventually stopped practicing regularly, and then I stopped. Also, it consumed a lot of time coz I was like if I decided I want to finish a lesson, and check if I remember the previous lessons, and it all felt such a big load..and it made me frustrated
@elspanishdude7 жыл бұрын
Great feedback. I've never personally used Duolingo. Many people love it. I'm sure it has it's place. But just one piece of the puzzle and probably a relatively small one. Thanks for the comment! Always nice to get feedback from somebody in the trenches right now.
@achyutarjun7 жыл бұрын
I would suggest you to check out Duolingo..I really appreciate their step by step teaching process..but, really, like you said, in learning a big thing like Spanish, it takes more than just an app, or a decision that is made one time..it needs a lot of dedication (unless you live among people who speak Spanish, and they happen to not understand your language which would mean, you have no other option than to learn Spanish in order to communicate with others, which is very unlikely) and there is really no shortcut. I just don't get much time..and between my semester breaks, all that I learned gets faded..and I don't really need Spanish..it's just the exact same reason I might be taking so long to learn.. btw, the reason why I want to learn Spanish is the reason you wanted to learn it..coz I find it cool, and I would love to talk to a Mexican or a Spanish person in Spanish if I happen meet them somewhere, if and when I travel..and yes, when you speak to a person in their native language, their approach changes almost instantly. and, did I say, I find it cool? ;)

I truly appreciate this video and your explanations about how we learn. Part way through this video, I was surprised to find myself realizing how this way of thinking, getting motivated to start and practicing can be applied to other parts of my life. I want to be an artist and there are videos and books galore, but it all comes down to actually doing it. And facing the fear! I am always afraid people will think "oh man, I just wish gringos would just stop butchering the language. I can speak English, why put up with them." But then I had not thought of asking if they minded. Maybe not at a busy ice cream shop (La Michuacana), but in other contexts. I sent one of your videos to my 16 yo grandson because you spoke - in 15 seconds - about how we learn and it was fabulous. Thank you.

I know this might be useless to people but English isn’t my first language , actually Portuguese is and I learnt English in about 2 - 3 weeks but the only way I could learnt it was to watch only English KZbin videos and be around people who were speaking the language I was learning... I still can’t learn a language by a teacher who speaks the language I can already speak because if somebody who doesn’t speak the language I do is talking to me or teaching me I am more curious to know what they are saying soo there’s more effort... hopefully people understand what I’m trying to say and this helps people 😂 if you don’t get what I’m saying... sorey Im terrible at explaining 😂😂

Thank you so much for this video. I am currently in a Spanish speaking country for the summer and I've been determined to learn Spanish. Having been here for nearly a month now, I was frustrated with my progress in my inability to understand anything anyone said. I've learned some phrases and some words, but just enough to get by in this country. Even the Spanish speakers here are asking me why I don't understand anything yet and that just discourages me (of course, they're still enthusiastic when I try to speak some phrases). I listened on desktop speakers. Same result when I used to watch your videos on my laptop. Just use the same volume for all your audio tracks(speaking and music. It's not only you a lot of people do this I don't know if its intentional or just a default setting. When I used to make videos with Sony Vegas I just had the same volume for all audio and just put a small section on a lower or higher volume track if I wanted to have the volume at a different level for a part of my video. Also If you leave everything on the same volume it saves you a few clicks hahaha.

That pep talk at the beginning of this video is amazing. I'm about to return to college for the first time in a decade, and my main struggle is with math, but the "you can learn anything" encouragement was all so clearly and specifically applicable to how I've been feeling, and it had a really profound impact that I really needed. And the part about working through the pain and your experience running out of gas is so relatable too -- I'm coming out of several years of homelessness/housing insecurity, and I try to put emphasis on leveraging hardships into serious growth opportunities, and I love how you're using this platform and topic to help people learn the same lesson! This video is brilliant. It really should be titled "How to Learn Anything". I'm so glad I found this channel tonight and decided to let this video autoplay when I looked at the main channel page. :)

another good video. My story is similar. I was in Italy and Spain for a month last summer and the truth was that I one of the few people that didn't speak at least a second language. I returned home... and told myself, "I'm going to learn Spanish" and started studying online which got me started.....but quickly hit a wall. Luckily , a friend told me about a local beginning Spanish class taught at a community center. I joined and loved it (it was an hour a week) but I was not learning as quickly as I would like.....then months later, I heard about an advance Spanish class taught at the same center which was a 90 minute ALL SPANISH SPOKEN class. I was intrigued....but intimidated for several months. I mean, I was at a basic level.....but I also realized that I was learning MUCH TOO SLOWLY. I finally showed up at the ALL SPANISH SPOKEN class one day, spoke with the instructor and told her that I would like to attend but because of my low skill level, I would be there just to HEAR THE SPOKEN SPANISH. She had no problem with that and the rest of the students welcomed me with open arms. THANKS. IT was the second best thing I did and that was to PUSH MYSELF and not worry about being the less skilled person in the class, so what? When the corona virus hit, the classes stopped but the four to six page stories were sent out by the intstuctor (starting next week, she was start ZOOM classes)....and I started slowly translating AND DOING LOTS OF STUDYING. IT was the best move I made learning spanish and that was TO PUSH YOURSELF. IF YOU GO SLOW, YOU WILL LEARN SPANISH SLOWLY. HAVING a game plan is Important as the SPANISH DUDE points out in this video. I will create one tommorrow as the last couple, instead of two spanish classes a week, now none. my focus....is not always focused correctly. Finally, you can learn a good foundation with online help. I have looked around a lot and found "THE SPANISH DUDE" one of the best. If you are ready this, you probably feel the same way. GOOD LUCK....but better yet, TAKE ACTION NOW!

Tengo un buen idea! Los estudiantes de Jordan hacen un forum de conversacion y aprendemos y ayudamos a junto! ¿Como lo piensas? I have an idea! How about us (Jordan's followers) start a conversation forum where we can study together (using Jordan's videos and tools) and learn together and help each other. What do you think?

I'm so excited about learning Spanish with Jordan! His approach is the best I've ever found! I recently bought his "Premier Course with Lifetime Membership." I am happy to support Jordan by doing so. Without a doubt this is the best investment, for a very reasonable price, that I've spent to progress using his teaching approach that is so uniquely and clearly presented. Thanks, Jordan!

Hola, Jordan. I happened by your channel & website by chance a few weeks ago, and I must say, you are amazing. I probably took some sort of Spanish class in elementary school, and possibly even high school (I don't really recall), and have been exposed to it vaguely throughout my everyday life. This semester I'm taking an introductory Spanish class in college. I've learned quite a bit, thus far, however, your videos are by far easier to understand, easier to relate to, and more entertaining. Thank you, sir, for all that you do.

Steve! I'm so happy to see your familiar face and that my video affected you. Pay extra special attention in the next video when I talk about going in "phases". Totally normal and I say, inevitable. So don't be hard on yourself at all. I've been doing this for 15 years and I still go in phases. ON and obsessed for a month or three. Then OFF for sometimes years (that's too many but the truth).
