Vivien was certainly one very fine actress. She was born for the role of Scarlett O'Hara. Not only did she play Scarlett, she WAS Scarlett. I just wish Ms. Leigh had a tiny fraction of the joy in her private life that she gave us so many times on the screen and stage.

Fantastic video of the greatest and most beautiful actress of all time. She inhibits my dreams of Scarlett. We have several portraits of her in this role as we are from Georgia and claim her as our own. She lived a tragic life but she LIVED it with courage and passion!

Vivien will always be my absolute favorite actress mostly because of Gone with the Wind but so many of her other roles were brilliant. Streetcar is very hard for me to watch for many reasons but of course she was wonderful. I love the clothes she wore in Roman Spring - so beautiful and ladylike. I just love her so much!!

Fantastic acting with the subtlest of movements, she didn't even need dialog. I think the Olivier held her back. She was a much better actor then he ever was.
@jmo50375 жыл бұрын
Actually it was the way she jerked her face and body that made her seem very alert, very invigorating setting her apart from other actors. And the way she delivered her dialogues.

I never understood the obsession with sir Laurence Olivier...I didn't see him as a great actor imo. But Vivienne Leigh always blew me away. They say he was a great actor though so it must be something wrong with me.

@@OpiumBride it's the tendency to over rate British actors simply because they can deliver lines of Shakespeare with 'authenticity' apparently... :) ie. Olivier
@tonyphilpott9500 Жыл бұрын
Agree. She could act him off the screen just by raising an eyebrow. She knew the meaning of internalised acting. He would just bellow and gesticulate and ended up looking like a big ham

Can people please stop commenting on Vivien' s looks, one thing Vivien would not have wanted to be remembered for is her beauty, she was, is and will always be one of the most outstanding actors who ever lived, whether the skill she possessed came out of pain or, from somewhere else, I don't know,however it drove her deep inside her characters, Vivien had tremendous empathy for each one of the characters she portrayed especially, Myra Leicester in Waterloo Bridge. Vivien was never a starlet , thar is a bloody insult, she was a truly gifted stage actor, who in my opinion, will never be surpassed the only other actor who came close to Vivien was the late Margaret Leighton. Watch Vivien's face, not only were her expressions brought forward via a rubber like face, additionally she had the tremendous ability to act through her eyes, a wonderful gift, that only the sheer genius of the acting profession own. All the above deserves tremendous respect, not mushy sentiment based on an ethereal sometimes worthless quality, today beauty dominates everything else, sadly even talent Vivien knew her looks were a curse to her career so very sad..

something about being completely messed up that makes a 'great actor'....most of those stars were drugged up, alcoholics, mentally ill, dozens of R'ships, terrible chilhood etc etc......not judging or criticizing, just the way it is...it seems to make them sensitive, daring, on the 'edge' or something....(eg. Brando, Garland, Leigh, Monroe etc...)
