We see Iroh heat his shackles and burn an earthbenders hand with it while he’s wearing them. I think skilled fire benders can be undamaged by heat but it’s not a passive resistance, he probably had to concentrate on channeling the energy through his chi in some way

actually firebenders are slightly fire resistant. They can get burned of course, but it takes just that bit longer/takes that little bit more heat. I think this was explained/confirmed in one of the Kyoshi novels.

@@snowflakekiller6905 "Imfao the confidence with how you said this is actually crazy, Bruh stay in school you really do need it" Wow, that response was unnecessarily aggressive. To clarify, iron and steel chains are generally stronger in terms of mechanical strength, such as tensile and compressive strength. Steel, in particular, is known for its high strength and durability, which is why it’s commonly used in construction and industrial applications. Platinum, while dense and resistant to corrosion and high temperatures, is softer and more malleable compared to iron and steel. Therefore, breaking out of steel chains, as we've seen some benders do, would indeed be more challenging than breaking out of platinum restraints-especially for an Avatar going on a rampage in the Avatar state. Just wanted to share some knowledge, P.S. I actually did learn about the mechanical strength and applications of certain metals and alloys back in elementary & middle school☺️.

@@lucariomew358_2 the thing is, in Avatar universe, platinum is too pure of a metal to be bendable. earth benders bend metal by bending dlthe microparticles of sand inside the metal, if there's no particles no metal bending

@@Raysa1208 oh I wasn't talking about bending-also, how refined platinum works in the Avatar universe is based on the platinum refining process IRL. I'm talking about using brute strength and force to break out of chains. Bend out of her Platinum restraints, she broke it through just sheer force. Which is impressive, but I'm saying that it's something even regular have been shown doing to regular steel (again, by smashing, not bending the material.)

1:02 Platinum is a natural medal, unlike the everyday medals we used that are processed from rock materials. Bending works pretty psychokinetic on a molecular level seemingly only limited by one’s knowledge of it, but there’s like no trace of a pebble in pure platinum

I once read lava benders can turn rocks to lava because they can bend small earth particles very fast so the friction turns the rocks into lava. Another fun fact. We saw early airbenders can fly by themselfs on avatar wan episodes. They can do that because they dont have any earthly attachments. But when they meet air bison their love for them made their ability to fly frazzle.

Yeah Mr. Sato mentions that in book 1, that platinum is so pure not even Toph could bend it. As for the chains, Korra ripped some out of the rock and some just snapped same way we can snap chains, by brute force.

15:54 in fact, Aang himself was once sentenced to be boiled in oil by the village of Chin during their Avatar Day festival (before he saved all their asses from the Rough Rhinos lol) So yes, capital punishment exists in the Avatarverse - the Red Lotus were imprisoned because the White Lotus wanted answers out of them about why they attempted to take kidnap the young Avatar, and dead prisoners don't talk.

0:58 you know, I never could figure out that. I assume that since platinum and other precious metals don't tend to bind to other minerals, it's harder for earthbenders to use. I would imagine that most earthbending is manipulating of the silica in stuff. Hiroshi Sato even commented that the Mecha tanks had made with highly purified platinum. Speaking of, there seems to be a lot more platinum in the Avatar world. Personally, I would have gone with *aluminum.* Aluminum is light, abundant and became widespread with the rise of electricity; used to separate out the impurities. It could also be a metal unfamiliar to metal benders

My theory on Lava-bending is an earth-bender with joint fire-bender/earth-bender heritage, like Bolin, would have the ability, and the Avatar, of course, because of having the power of four elemental connections. And to me, Ghazan has more a Fire Nation look than an Earth Kingdom look, so it's easy to suspect a joint heritage, and the United Republic is responsible for creating a "melting pot" that would insure this would happen more often now than ever before.

That is a theory that has gone around a lot, but was never confirmed. And we don’t have confirmation of other Lavabender families. Though we do have a suggestion from the Legscy of Yangchen book of people possibly experimenting to see if anyone could….. I personally just find the parentage requirement very..limiting and less fun for prior eras. My personal view of one’s skill and ability to learn one is more their mindset (which can connect to both Toph’s stubbornness playing into metal and Zuko’s view of himself hindering lightning). In Bolin’s case, he’s fairly “go with the flow” and has more loose movements from playing Probending, which those could, to me, explain his ability with lava and lack in metal.

The show's logic as to why platinum is not bendable is that it's too pure a metal. Essentially all other metals have microscopic bits of earth minerals in them, but platinum has none. I have no idea if the actual science of this checks out, but that's the show's logic.

Zaheer best bad boy. I'll say it again, casting Henry Rollins was an absolute dark-horse, left-field, WTF master-stroke, and the writers fed that beast with an amazing character. Re: heat resistance - Radiant heat from lava/magma in this universe is, IMO, largely a BIG suspension of disbelief. From Shyu leading the Gaang through the lava tunnels under the Fire Temple, to Aang, Toph, and Sokka walking and flying through lava-filled tunnels to find Ozai without melting into puddles of goo like the Nazis in Raiders, to Aang standing barefoot on lava flows that instantly ignited his wooden glider, I just can't offer any explanation other than the writers just...chose to ignore it to make the story more exciting. Airbending can be used to insulate and warm, so we can assume it can be used to insulate and protect from heat to a degree (pun intended), but I still don't think that's a good-enough explanation. The air alone would scorch their lungs, their hair would be sizzle-crisped in seconds, their clothing would ignite...Yeah, I think it was just...ignored.

Movie lava doesn't generate heat unles you're touching it. Asami, Tenzin, and the brothers should have bursted into flames from being that close to that much lava last episode. The poison was indeed mercury, and the creators did their homework on what mercury poisoning does do a person.

The unreal part about this is the fact that Tenzen somehow didn't break a dang bone during his battles with Zaheer and his gang. Rightfully so, Tenzen should have joined Korra with his own wheelchair. Lastly, Korra should have shouted at Zaheer as she whips her chains at him "GET OVER HERE!", like Scorpion of MK fame. 😂

In my opinion.. about Lavabenders having an innate resistance to the heat.. it could be genetic. If you think about it, specialized benders must have special lineage. I believe Yakone said his family comes from a long line of Bloodbenders. Metalbenders are 1 in 100. Also, Toph is a Beifong, a family from a long line of Earthbending masters. Her discovery came from her lineage and environment (being blind). Bolin must have Earthbending and Firebending ancestry. (Since his mom is from the Fire nation and dad from the Earth kingdom). Gazan must have had the same combination of parents. There's even Sparky Sparky Boom Man and P'li.. Personally, I think it's due to Fire Nation and Air Nomad ancestry. Because it looks like Air being generated, followed by a fire explosion. Despite the Air Nomad genocide, some managed to escape and hide by assimilating into other nations. Which makes sense why Air benders came to be again, they had Air nomad ancestry.

I have a theory about Ghazan and his lava bending. Who is the only other lava bender you know here? Bolin. Bolin has one earth bender parent and one fire bender parent. What is lava if not the combination of both? I theorize that Ghazan had one earth bender parent and one fire bender parent, just like Bolin. I imagine Republic City has a ton of earth benders with the potential for lava bending due to their parents being one earth bender and one fire bender. It's just that most of them probably have somewhat mundane jobs that take up their time so they never get to practice their bending to the extent that Bolin or Ghazan has. Bolin was a Pro-Bender turned team Avatar member so he's fighting all time so he's able to reach his full potential. Ghazan, and here's my second Ghazan theory, I believe is a former Triple Triad member. If your "job" is being a criminal, you don't like governments, and you have the time to focus on your bending, Ghazan probably just trained relentlessly then met Zaheer, became a cultist and we know the rest. But that's just a theory, an AVATAR THEORY.
@lilywong9672
@lilywong9672 7 ай бұрын
That's not how it works. You're literally implying that Bolin has two elements when humans in this world can only have one unless they're the avatar. Earth is a stubborn element, so it makes sense that phase shifting it is nearly impossible compared to water. Lava is just liquid (phase shifted) earth the same way ice is just solid (phase shifted) water.
