We are encroaching on their territory, interfering with their environment, and depriving them of their natural food sources. What happened there is unfortunate, but it is also preventable. The bears have no malice, they are just doing what bears do. Mothers protect their babies and starving bears look for food. That doesn't make them evil, it just makes them wild animals. The only ones that actually have evil motives are humans. But i jumped between a charging black bear and a 3 yr old without my side arm, only knife in my hand because i was cooking. Picked him up like a football and ran towards my truck, where my shotgun was laying on tailgate. My son dropped him 10ft away from me & terrified precious boy. I put boy on the tailgate and shot one more time for safe measure Over muscle twitching but my son killed him instantly. That child was from different camp, Whos urbanite parents thought it was safe for him to wonder off. Thank god my son countered my reaction & had a accurate shot. I just reacted, i didnt know him but I went in momma bear protecting baby mode on a male bear during hyperphagia. Not one day goes by do i regret that decision. Now i get to know campers around me& educate them. I have a dog who's a predator deterrent and my side arm never leaves my side! So better to over prepare than put yourself in harms way! This is typically only true if they have little to no experience with people. They’re not as timid as once would expect, and I say this as someone from BC with multiple black bear encounters. There’s a huge issue with black bears becoming accustomed to people and all that comes with us. Believe it or not, but in Canada black bears are actually responsible for around 70% of all incidents. Although their attacks are typically defensive rather than predatory. Grizzles do make up for the largest amount of fatal attacks but at the end of the day never underestimate a black bear. Due to being more skittish by nature they’re easier to spook into a defensive attack.
@mrdark99168 ай бұрын
@@kaelinn510actually you have that backwards.. black bear attacks are actually much more likely to be predatory in nature, while Grizzly attacks are majority defensive. This is why you play dead for grizzly, and not for black bear. Because if a black bear is attacking you it is likely actively intending to eat you and playing dead will not help, while playing dead is often effective in the end for a grizzly attack. James O'Brien -- saw a vid of a bear charging a man. He shot the thing close range near the head/shoulder area with a friggin shot gun. The bear tripped for just a split second before running off. My point is a shotgun will work, and I’m sure a rifle as well, but probably not a hand gun unless it’s essentially a mini rifle. Lol Pepper spray is super risky. Yes ppl should be better prepared but I don't judge because I haven't been in the situation. I hope I would have time to react with my self defense I always carry but sometimes it just happens so fast you are bowled over before you even know what's happening. I'm mortified of going into wilderness mostly because of a potential serial killer but not in love with even a 1% chance of being mauled by a grizzly!

He did nothing but, drag his daughter into bear country while both were unprepared while knowing it was bad enough to bring Bear Spray. It literally can't get any dumber. I reward him however for owning his epic misjudgment. He's lucky to be alive to learn that valuable lesson. I just hope both of them did.

I know, WTF! Your buddy is going to get malt to death if you don't take a shot. Might as well take a chance because he's going to die for sure if you don't. Besides, you have a huge grizzly bear and your friend is on the ground, you have a hunting rifle with a scope, not that you need the scope of that range. So, why can't you shoot again? How bad of a shot do you have to be if you are worried about hitting him? I know things happen fast and the adrenaline is flowing. I know I'm second-guessing and I wasn't there, so I realize it's not as easy as I make it sound, but still it seems like he should have taken at least one shot while his friend was getting mauled

@@Marco-fi6gv They didn't wanna waste the shot in case the bear 're-turned' on them, besides, being Christians, they knew the other would be in a better place if they should carc?
@Marco-fi6gv3 жыл бұрын
@@SeriousSchitt lots of assumptions there. Like it is certain that the bear is mulling my friend and I need to do something. It is certain if you do nothing more damage gets done possibly fatal damage. They never mentioned that they were running out of ammo so that is an assumption as well. Here's one more, the guy could keep getting mauled so badly and still live. Imagine living with no eyes, ears and half your brain. Is that a better place? Fortunately for them, it all worked out, but they were extremely lucky because most of the time it doesn't go that way

Before I went to glacier national Park, I bought four cans of bear repellent. Prior to hiking, I emptied two cans testing them and making sure that I knew how to use them properly. The other two still intact repellents, I carried on holsters hanging from my belt at all times. I carried these two repellents with me, not just one, in case one failed or one was not enough. After watching this video, I feel justified in taking all of those precautions.

The fact that I never considered that my bear spray might fail is embarrassing. Not that I've ever been anywhere that I would need it, but thank you for making me reconsider

What happened with the couple in Banff National Park in Canada who used 2 cans of bear spray and still were killed and partially consumed ? Look it up. Or the Todd Orr attack 😮 where the bear attacked him twice and the bear spray didn't work ? Plus black bears are less affected and recover faster from bear spray. Best to take as many forms of defense as you can, including a good knife. Many have saved their lives with a sturdy hunting knife. Often it happens so fast you don't have time to shoot or use spray. What works in one case may not in another and bear spray isn't 100 % effective. Even carrying a weapon isn't a guarantee if it happens fast and bears are faster than a race horse. Many times it's just luck or in a defensive attack, the bear puts you down, you don't move and it walks away. But black bears you should fight back. Everyone has a plan until there's a bear in your face, I will never judge anyone because idk what it's like and I hope I would have time and do the right thing and make a great shot to stop it. But sometimes bears have to be shot several times. No 2 situations are alike because no 2 bears are alike. You just try to be prepared, and practice with your defenses.

These people, the ones who didn't run away, the ones that stayed and helped, the ones who heard from a distance and went to help, these people are heros! That was so disturbing to watch, my whole body was tense the whole time and the noise of bones being crushed, my god! You don't read about bear attacks so I didn't think it was that common, but it seems they are very common. Don't go into bear territory, don't risk your lives, those animals are bloody huge!

And yet, I continue to be fascinated by them.( pretty wierd, huh?) My heart goes out to those that have lost loved ones or felt the fury of these creatures😢...
