I went a much simpler route by adding an idler gear between the lead screw gear (D) and the (BC) change gear positions. It attaches to the existing pivot plate with a sliding flange & nut that also serves as the idler gear's bushing.

Care to take a video of that? I've seen a couple but they looked like they were more of a pain to change. Like had to move 2 existing gears plus the new idler. I'd love to see your solution.

@arbon4433 I have posted the link to pictures of it 3 times and YT must be taking them down. I guess you'll have to search for "G9729 reverse idler" and select the match found on the Hobby-Machinist forum.

Brilliant idea. I have almost identical machine.

It's still not a quick change gearbox. But it's a small step in the right direction. I've seen some other similar mods. I went this route for versatility. And since none of it is permanent, I could always do both.

This is great! Would you be willing to do a video on the DRO scale setup? I’m very interested in how/where you attached the scales.

I can do that. I should have e videoed it years ago.

@@jimafcarbon4433 oh? Sometimes reviewing an already built project is interesting. Kind of like a post more of a project. Sounds like you might have a few to go through?
