Actually, exactly! When I spent time in densely-populated bear country, it was made clear to all humans that bears like & utilize trails as much as we do and if we ever met one ambling along Get Off The Trail to let it pass. Which we did. And they passed. The man in the vid is testerical.

Reason being is it's open, wide and lots of room to get a full sprint going and the air has lots of scents they can pick up on on these trails. This is common knowledge at least up in the northeast. While hunting I have seen and experienced wild predators using trails or otherwise known as game trails to hunt me or other animals

It's best to stay out of their way and slowly back away if you face one, then play dead if that doesn't work. I think the bear is either just using the same path the tourists are on, or can smell the food in their bags, so possibly leaving the backpacks behind could work and/or climbing a few feet away from the path?
