At the time, the sprouts in our area was trying to get a rid of a bunch of random things in carts by the cash registers ( in mass quantities) for only 99cents! so we picked up 12 bags of coconut flour, 8 cans of beans, and 4 jars of garlic powder 🤣

awesome again thanks, here in Australia our prices seem much higher than there is the US, but we do have an abundance of fresh produce at pretty good prices, plus we have a great vege garden which produces a lot for us. We have the equivalent of Dollar Tree here called the Reject Shop, which until one of your videos hadn't thought to shop at, had a look the other day, and amazing bargains. Got bags of spiral pasta and spagetti , product of Australia for 50c a bag. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, while you guys are freezing we are roasting and at the beach!!!

Yearrrrs ago the airline did promos for miles on cereal boxes, so with sales on double coupon days I would take my college roommate and buy like 25 boxes of cereal or nutrigrain bars at a time, then go home and mail in all the coupons. 😂 It paid off because I saved those miles and eventually used for my honeymoon!

Not my weirdest checkout, but I'll tell you one about an old boss of mine. He and I lived within a two mile radius of each other. We each had our own individual but same chain neighborhood grocery store. One day I caught him in the parking lot of my neighborhood store (either too embarrassed to do so in his own, or perhaps he had already been at his?) He had literally wiped out my store of his preferred bran cereal (I am talking a cartful of 20+ boxes). Apparently they were on sale with no limit. He used it in his yogurt every morning as his breakfast. How do I know? He brought his breakfast to work every morning. He was definitely a creature of habit with his breakfast and snacks.

My local store has had a close out on large raw shrimp for $3.50/pound for about a month, I have stocked 8 2lbs packages for when I want shrimp later, but I’m lucky to have deer from family hunting, pork from family butchering 5 hogs, and found a great deal for chicken hind quarters at $.49/pound and stocked up on that a few months ago so even buying shrimp, my weekly grocery budget for 1 person has stayed under $75 (includes $25 of soda that I am slowly decreasing)

I have noticed that people who "Just can't save money on groceries" are NOT buying food. They buy a dopamine hit ("I can't do without my Oreos!") or, they are buying convenience. I actually had an acquaintance who flatly refused to visit two or three different grocery stores to scout out the best deals. The irony: she had the nerve to say that to ME, who lives in a snowy four-season climate, and can no longer drive (vision issues) and have to shop on a bicycle. Somehow, I still manage to make the mile-and-a-half long circuit between the Farmer's Market, Kroger, Dollar Tree, and Walmart. Then, when the bargains are really good, I hit the Sprouts, Trader Joe's, Target, and Costco clump of stores on the other side of town and use Uber to get there (no bike lanes on that side of town). I STILL save more money, even after paying for Uber! I don't really care what choices anybody else makes, TBH. But you should be clear: when you buy name brand items and limit shopping because "it's too much trouble" to shop at different stores; you're buying a dopamine hit or convenience, NOT food! Weirdest food combination when I found boneless skinless chicken thighs for 99 cents a pound and an entire case of missing label canned goods for pennies on the dollar. When I was checking out the cashier commented, "Feeding the freezer, huh?" Yes, yes I am. Most of the canned goods were fine, they all ended up in soups. I feasted on my favorite cut of chicken for months!

I love to cook, but I also teach. I've learned over the years that during the semester I will actually save more money if I keep some convenience things on hand - it saves me from eating out or ordering delivery so often. But I'm also fairly cheap, and convenience foods tend to have long shelf/freezer lives, so I do shop the sales for those. I'm sure my cart looks insane in any given trip, but it's just buying what is on sale and knowing I will gradually eat those 8 boxes of mac&cheese or 5 boxes of cereal over the coming months. The only name-brand items I care about are Kraft mac&cheese and Heinz ketchup - I taste a difference! But I also don't pay full price on either.
@lindacgrace2973
@lindacgrace2973 6 ай бұрын
@@wjb-wi6dt Agreed! A frozen pizza (purchased on sale) is still one heck of a lot better than calling out for pizza delivery! I also keep some convenience foods on hand for those days when I can't be bothered. But I am honest about it and don't claim that I'm buying food. At that point, I'm buying convenience. Sometimes that tiny bit of convenience is the difference between a home made meal and take-out, so I'm still ahead. But you should be clear about what you're paying for. Sounds like you are very clear. A box of Kraft Mac & Cheese that saves you from take-out is still a great deal. I am a retired middle-grades teacher, specialised in twice exceptional students. What grade do you teach?

🧻🍺Toilet paper and root beer. My roommate and I were out of toilet paper and we wanted to have rootbeer floats while we watched a movie. I think it was 1996. It was after 11pm on a Saturday, and my roommate and I got pulled over on our way home from the grocery store. I had run a red light, meaning I stopped like it was a stop sign and drove on. 🤦‍♀️ The officer asked if we’d been drinking (we’re Mormon, so no) and what we had in the bags in back seat. When we answered TP and root beer. He laughed and warned me to be more attentive.

I have committed to eating healthier, so no grains, dairy and not a lot of fruits. I eat mostly protein and veggies. I also only eat 50 carbs a day. I feel better! My lab numbers are improving. Aldi has been a Godsend for me with respect to vegetables. Eating healthy is more expensive in the beginning, but once you are cutting out all the sugars in our food, you actually end up spending less. I try to take advantage of meat sales and/or markdowns. I have a small deep freeze, so I can take advantage. I also don't eat potatoes. I thought I would really miss those, but I don't! Groceries are so expensive, so I try to make things that stretch for a couple days too. It's only me eating now, but it's only me paying too! Meal plan, watch sales, coupons, and it all adds up!

@@Mys.Teri67 lol, inflation is everywhere. People felt the same way in 1968 about the value on their money. Between 1960-2000, I have live thru 7 recessions. In the 90s and 2000s, I was able to get a lot of food free by combining coupons and loss leader sales. Even Target let you put coupon overage toward other purchases to make that item free. Then extreme couponing came on tv and manufacturers and stores changed policy. A lot of stuff can still be free, but you have to be willing to use digital coupons and multiple rebate sites. It’s always about are you willing to put the time in. FFM has the right of it with the way she shops. I grew up in the 60s watching and then learning from my mom as she shopped the same way as FFM.

My next salad will include some new leaves from the centre of dandelions, miner’s lettuce and chickweed. It’s too early for chives to be up. Not always to everyone’s taste but I can stretch a bit of store bought romaine with the extra greens which are super-nutritious because they were freshly picked.

This guy is smart. You are the 2nd You Tuber that has done a video on his cart. OMG! I know I've had some crazy hauls before. I've gone to Sam's for 2 things before. Can't remember but yeah, butter and pickles! I'm there with you! Great video. I love when you do these type videos. Thanks. Merry Christmas!

You know what I find kinda funny, as a cashier I accidentally dropped a huge jar of pickles, it smelled the whole garden section for a week.

When I first left home I bought steak and prawn vol au vents! Never had basics for a meal. Might be a good idea for a video, basics when starting off.

Great podcast, good listen. I buy only discounted &/or sale items only except for the odd other random ingredients for food + everything else we may purchase like gas, etc is over the top expensive!! I’m almost out of coffee & I’m not going to buy anymore until my tea stash is gone cause decaf coffee is $$🍁🇨🇦 Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 🎄⛄️

Sooooo my cart usually doesn't have stuff for an actual meal. I'm there stocking up on items I am running out of. I already have the protein and canned goods in my stockpile. And whatever else I need for a recipe.

Was he complaining about the price? It didn't really seem like that to me. Beans! Best and cheapest protein. You buy 1lb and it gets heavier and expands when you cook it, not shrinks like meat!

Not food, but I checked out of dollar tree with 24 pkgs of nylons. I use them making wool dryer balls and they finally had some in stock so I took about half of them.

Grocery prices are definitely higher. That isn't the only factor in grocery bills being so much higher though. People are eating at home more. I've noticed anecdotally that there are a lot more convenience items based on restaraunt brands, probably because people are buying more groceries, idk. In anycase, I quit restaurants and my grocery bill went way up, but I spend a lot less on food overall.

yeah, I get what you're saying. But grocery shopping is indeed way up there. we all should have a grocery budget, but you don't get much for 50 dollars. It adds up fast, even getting only the bare minimum stuff. I continue to be amazed at how much I drop at the store when I go. Even at Aldi. Last time I was there I dropped almost 80, but I was shopping for hosting Christmas dinner, so I did get things I wouldn't normally get. But still. food is way up, and there is nothing wrong with pointing out the outrageous prices we are being charged. if consumers don't speak up, we will continue paying too much

Timely. Today I did a restock run, 3 grocery stores, and got stuff for 5 days of guests - two of us plus two vegetarians. $170. Crikey!

I appreciate what you’re doing, but I think we’re missing the point of these “shocking” grocery receipts- we didn’t used to have to try this hard. There’s a giant income category that didn’t used to have to think about store brand vs name brand. Now, I grew up having to be frugal, blessedly spent a good 15 years not needing a grocery budget and now I’m using all my old skills again (it’s like riding a bicycle 😂). But just because my family eats great doesn’t mean I’m not ticked off at the responsible parties. And this is totally a stir fry recipe plus a couple random list items.

I recently did a week long meatless meals challenge. I loved it ! It was challenging, fun and less expensive. I am a meat eater so have no plans on becoming a vegetarian but will definitely do the meatless challenge again. I had great meals, and used a variety of alternate proteins.

😂 From Costco…. Vodka (for a party I was heading to) and two packs of brown rice microwavable bowls because they were my favorite, and on sale, and I happened to pass by them. It was also 11am.

When I was a child in the 60s it was customary to give a gift to the Postman, milkman, and for parties, usually it was liquor. Just in my subdivision on our street throughout the month I would see bottles with a bow waiting for him to pick up. My mom waited until it went on sale and bought several bottles. I just recently thought about it and thought, goodness, if he delivered to 300+ houses he could end up with a fifth of liquor for every night of year 😮😂😂

After watching you, I now check for red tag meat at Kroger every time I shop. I am making lasagna for Christmas Eve, found 2 pounds of hamburger patties for $6. I will brown it all and freeze half. I also am making two small lasagnas and freezing one. Oven ready noodles from DT!

I like to shop ahead of time for a few months, but even a weekly shop allows you to buy some things in bulk which will bring down the price.
