I have the same problem. Was about to try to take the spray head apart like you explained so well but instead decided to call Grohe. Waited almost half an hour but finally reached customer service. I explained the problem and without any hesitation or complication was told that a new spray head would be sent asap. No questions asked. Wow such service! So my advice is to call them first.

@@hatchcan I just called them two weeks ago and they sent a SECOND replacement faucet head without question under terms of the lifetime warranty we had with out kitchen faucet. Had they told me to just order a replacement, I would have ripped the bloody thing out and replaced it with something not so over-engineered and so fragile. This video is excellent and it appears to give us a permanent fix.

Thank you for your detailed video! My Grohe faucet is 19 years old and around the 10 year mark, the spray head had the same problem. Back then, I ended up buying a new spray head. This time around, i decided to search for a solution on YT University. Your video explains the "reason" for the fault and your fix is brilliant. I thought I would add some insight that might help others, as I have the soft black model and I could not remove the switch. It seems the cover to the switch is a "one-piece" unit. Thus, I could not punch out the internals. However, I was able to use a small dull edged flat head screwdriver to remove the white o-ring and replace it with a new o-ring, without having to remove the internal parts. Super easy fix!! Another commenter mentioned lifetime warranty. Yes, there is that option as well...... to the original owner with a copy of the receipt. I believe I might have the receipt and will try to get a warranty replacement as well. :-)

Great video. Now I know how to clean my Grohe sprayer head. One note, Grohe has a lifetime guaranty on their faucets. They have sent me 4 replacement sprayer heads that have the longer toggle switch that you don't have to hold down to have the sprayer setting. Originally, I didn't find my receipt but they sent me the part anyway since they are the only Grohe manufacturer. I eventually found the receipt and I sent them a copy for future replacements. Thanks again for the video. It's very helpful. It's puzzling why Grohe doesn't provide a video like. yours.

Incredibly nuanced video, but exactly my problem - thank you sir. I ended up putting a second o-ring around the top side of the plunger, and that seemed to keep things consistent between the spray and stream.

There is no need to disassemble the whole head. I fixed mine by just unscrewing the sprayer and flipping off the mesh as he shows. Then with a small screwdriver prying out the old white washer while pressing the trigger, and fitting an O ring in its place behind the little ridge on the plunger. Then replace the grids and sprayer as before. Works like a charm. Much simpler than taking the whole thing apart. But the video was great to see how it all works. So no need for the whole mallet business and taking off the trigger.

Thanks for the video. It really helped me get it all apart. You made snapping in that white lever look way easier than it actually was to get out and put back. I could not find an O-ring the exact size you mentioned so mine were a little smaller. Problem was, it would run a good stream until I pushed the spray lever then it would never go back. This is because the O-ring kept sliding back off from too much tension. So I found much easier solution. I found the faucet head on the Grohe web site, told them my issue and they are sending me a FREE replacement head. 😋😋 Another option, I saw several sites selling the bronze and some other colored versions cheap for $5. So all you would have to do is pop your insides out of the shell and replace w the new ones from the ugly colored $35 shell.

While I have a very different spray head from yours, I just wanted to say that this video was incredibly well made, the patient portions of the video without commentary are really valuable, I'm surprised more KZbinrs don't add that in. Thanks a million! This was my exact problem and I couldn't see how to get into the faucet head to fix it. Without your video I would not have been brave enough to whack the inner piece out of it's shell with a mallet to get in there. Also, giving the proper size o-ring was a huge help too. (Note: Home Depot's o-rings were in inches, but I just converted your metric numbers to 9/16 x 1/16.)

Thank you for this! This helped immensely. However, my spray head has two plastic tabs that prevent it from being knocked apart with the mallet, so I managed to find a different way to fix it: I disassembled the front of the head and used a screwdriver to remove the old damaged green ring - so basically, your exact video until about 2:30. Then you need two people for the next step: one of you holds the spray button so that the little plunger stays up, then the both of you use small flathead screwdrivers to stretch an o-ring (we used a Danco #10 like Pennie suggested below) over and around the backside of the plunger head. Reassemble the spray head, and voila, it works perfectly!

Thank you both for the help (video and the modification when those tabs are present)! Mine had the tabs and I tried smashing it out with a few whacks but stopped when it wouldn't budge. I saw this comment then tried spreading the #10 Danco on it and it shimmied into place after a few minutes of work with small flathead screwdrivers. The spray is perfect now. Thanks!!

I was following your advice but had to do it solo. I also have the 2 plastic tabs, there must be another way to get it apart but thought I'd try it your way. I used a bit of tape around the button to hold it down. I did not even remove the button cover, used a small piece of cardboard so the adhesive on the tape would not stick to the fragile rubber cover (which I've already replaced that once). I used a #10 Danco with a little silicon spray to help it slide over and into place with 2 small screen drivers. Done in 5 minutes - just one person. I did not need the 2nd washer as some have suggested. It works perfectly on mine without it anyway. I did try it but with mine it ended up being way too much gasket in there to operate properly.

Thanks for this video! My original problem was a clogged check valve, where the o-ing had fouled things up and was giving me really low flow - but I also had a leaky spray divider seal like you showed. I was able to design and 3D print a polyurethane seal that replaces the old worn out one. The seal has a groove as originally designed fits around the plunger and works great!! :)

Grohe has now sent us TWO replacement sprayheads, at no charge, under the terms of their lifetime warranty. The original and the first replacement each lasted about 18 months. This video confirms what I have believed all along, that Grohe's engineering is completely faulty, over-complicated, and dependent on fragile parts that are certain to fail. We've bought our last Grohe product and are thrilled that we did NOT purchase their components for our bathroom remodel!

Thanks for the video, very helpful. I tried a Danco #35 and a Danco #11 from Home Depot, both 9/16" ID. They fit but the #11 was too thick so it wouldn't allow the piston to open enough to get the stream going. The #35 is thinner but it seems to pull away from the back of the piston a little bit so that water is still leaking through the streaming holes when it should just be going through the center hole. Maybe there is a perfect size somewhere in the universe...

Hi Tom, terrific demo -- exactly the issue I'm facing. To you or anyone out there who knows: I was able to follow everything except I can't seem to find the correct O-Ring, so I'm just getting a stream -- no spray upon pushing the button. It's stated above and in the video that a 13.7mm D x 1.9mm t O-Ring is needed. The O-Rings I found are listed in inches and with both Inside Diameter and Outside Diameter. e.g. I got a #11 Danco O-Ring that's 3/4" O.D. x 9/16" I.D. x 3/32". So mine's slightly too thick and both diameters are larger than what's listed, so when I go back to exchange the O-Ring, I obviously need a smaller one, but do you know which # Danco I need OR whether I want the inside diameter or outside diameter (or the midpoint) to be 13.7 mm? Thank you very much.

Hi, I had a tough time finding the correct o-ring size and tried several before getting it right. I ended up using an o-ring from an auto air conditioning assortment kit. HNBR Rubber O-Ring model #ORNG-2 by interdynamics. The 13.7 mm dimension is the inside diameter. Unfortunately I'm unsure if there is a standard size equivalent. Here's a link to the o-ring kit I used: www.amazon.com/Interdynamics-ORNG-2-240-Piece-Assortment-8-Type/dp/B002G1PBXC

We have the same problem for a faucet installed in May 2018 and called the US Grohe supplier who sent us a warranty replacement head. Almost 10 months later, the same thing is happening which generated a call to the supplier who explained that the manufacturer is redesigning the head and that we would be sent a new head. So we will see next year (Feb 2021) if that is the long lasting repair/design change. In the mean time, we will order the o-rings in case it happens again when it's out of warranty. Now in the video, you said the size was 15.7mm. Does that depend on the o-ring vendor? Where did you buy the o-rings?, is their material specific for "city" water usage etc? Thanks, JAH

they used to have thoseon Amazon and other places (some third party made them) and they have been discontinued for sometime. Grohe propably bought them out as they want you to spend $160 on a new sprayer. Lifetime warranty + ten years to them

Tom- This was very useful. I must be doing something wrong the way I inserted the small spring before putting the plastic liver back. I can not screw the gray top back as the screw does not engage as the plunger with the o-ring does not go down enough.

Yeah so I have two homes completely outfitted with Grohe ythroughout and they consider a "Lifetime Warranty" to be ten years. She was quick to pooint out that it is not the "lifetime" of the home owner? WTH I guess I have outlived the Grohe statute of limitations. I even polietely argued with them on the phone and they pushed back, outside the ten year period a "manager" has to approve it. So now I am on the fence with recommending their products to anyone, especially my friends in the building trades. And I have a new home with three bathrooms that need remodeling. Oh well.. as with all good companies they are not seeing the big picture of brand awareness.

Nice video but it really doesn't bring the faucet back to the spray/stream option. It mostly ends up as a stream & sometimes it will spray - probable because the suggested 1.9mm x 13.7mm "O" ring doesn't meet the required original specs. I would never buy another Grohe faucet. It's overpriced & they won't supply the original "O" ring without purchasing the entire head.

Revision- I've had the new O ring in for approximately 24 hours & it's working much better. Perhaps it just needed to be seated in the head for awhile. Kind of like priming the pump. But guess what?! I called Grohe because I needed a new spray button ("diaphragm") & they said it was still under warranty (8 yrs old) & they're sending a replacement spray head. Larry B
