I have this exact same set up and needed to replace it when the handle to the volume/diverter control broke off after 2 1/2 years. I will say that it was a little more difficult that the video makes it out to be as all of the pieces were stuck together with a white residue even though we don't have hard water. The set screw holding the temperature adjuster was missing but I still couldn't pull it off. I ended up drilling out the set crew hole which eventually freed it up. The replacement trim kit did come with everything needed to do the job. I hope this one lasts longer.

I'm a DIY'er, engineer. I've installed a number of Grohe products, including shower valves. I've always been impressed with the quality - this Grohe Flex is a different beast. It looks very simple, however there are no instructions included - none - nada. I did find this Grohe produced video on you-tube. In the video it shows that you mount 2x4's horzontally across the studs. The Flex has mounting holes - both in the front and back. You can't use the rear holes in a 2x4 wall. If you use the front holes - the 2x4 supports interfere with the shower/tub outlets. The 'mounting ears' are about 1/2" long - that means the fastening screws are about 1/4" from the egde of the 2X4. Lastly, if you want your drop eared ell to be just through the cement board - you need to use soft copper to bring it forward. All in all this is a nightmare to work with. You'll spend a lot of extra time getting this to work out. Would not purchase again.

+doug_ b Hello Doug I just installed my Groflex, mine came with instructions but you are correct I had to read it a few times Like always after you do the install everything makes sense, It really is a quality product and a easy install. Just make sure you are in the min /max range for the roughin box depth. Also presolder the 1/2" NPT and pex connections for the roughin and all will go well. The valve assembly and trim installed well, the temp limit was a little confusing but simply you just pull the plastic ring that is on a spline and rotate counterclockwise for hot water. It's just a simple stop so you get the proper temp

They forgot to show water leaking out of the service stops after they are turned to the off position like both the grohe valves that i installed did.

How do you adjust the temperature to be hotter after it's installed? The instructions that came with this have no information on how to do this.

How can this be an installation video, when they skip the entire meaningful installation info - which is behind the wall? Also take a close look at the 'attachment points' - they are a little more than 1/4" past the edge of the cross bracing.

+doug_ b Hello Doug I used the back attachment points to screw to 3/4" plywood. I then screw 2x3" sleepers to the pywood face. Then attaching 2x3" the 2-4" studs

I don't want the diverter and temperature lever to line up. Difficult to operate the one behind. Can I install them to be on opposite side of each other?

What about the plastic ring in Step 7, Having trouble getting it to seat, it keeps wiggling out every time I work one side in the other pops out. Suggestions?

If you install the 1/2" copper nipples as they show it - one would need to solder the copper connectors with the valve installed - doing it this way is WRONG because the heat would transfer - therefore melt and compromise the the plastic seals in the valves of the unit!

+Merv Cann I just presoldered 1/2 NFT to copper and srewed in. Teflon and sealing paste the threads. Aslo soldered a pex connection on the other end

I turned the hot and cold service stop, one broke . how is this fixable? The screw driver no longer can go into the slots, because one slot broke. Help?

Hi. I have a Grohe Dual function pressure balance trim with control module. But the lever will only turn to the right, so the water only comes out of the hand shower and not the shower head. Anyone knows what's wrong. I had a plumber install it and he couldn't figure it out (he's not that great though)

Take it out and put it back in like the video. Maybe he's got something in wrong. Or you got some wrong parts from Grohe. Good luck.

What is the point of service stops valves when water comes out no matter what position the valve is turned?

+Bruce Hand Yes, a leak with a drip rate of about 1 drop per every few seconds was the best i could get trying different positions. One position actually squirted water directly in my face. If you mess with the stops too much, the screwdriver will begin to mar and mangle them since they are a soft brass. Ultimately decided i need to shut off house water supply instead of using the service stops in order to service the valve, which is fine, but when the valve was installed and i was waiting for tile to be finished, the leak was really annoying. should have gone with my gut and got a different valve.....now it is entombed in tile. With the valve in service, it also leaks slowly to this day, even after installing an entire new cartridge and using a non-petroleum based grease as ghohe recommended. The valve sure looks good though. But the water stain on the tub under the valve does not.

A leaky service stop valve is not a big problem at this point, since i rarely have to remove the cartridge. In that case, i just shut off water to the house as i would with any other brand of valve. The water supply only needs to be off for as long as it takes me to do whatever i need to do. It was only annoying during tiling, which took several days, having to constantly dance around and empty a bucket to catch the drips. What is really annoying is the constant leak from the main shower valve that has stained my new tub and run up my water bill and created a situation where the tub area is constantly wet. Like i said, grohe makes valves that look great, but not much attention was given to make them not leak. My blood pressure rises a tad every time i go in that bathroom and see it.

The service stops are for installing and replacing valves only, they let you flush the lines before installing the valve body.
