What a cutie pie 😍 I would personally take the bridge nose hair down a little more. And use some chompers to really blend her hair out. Good overall though!

I see Honey is a 3rd or 4th gen Cockapoo...just like mine.Wavy and less curly hair. And just like Honey mine can't sit still for more than a 1/10 th of a second and squirms and squiggles a lot. It takes me about 4 haircut sessions of about 45 mins each before I can start getting her looking anywhere near evened out.I like to cut her hair shorter just below her front teeth to keep her from picking up a quart of water when she takes a drink, I rake her every day.I have been using Eco-Ears (Amazon) on her since she was a pup and her ears are healthy.Also I brush her teeth every day with Virbac CET (poultry flavor) I had her teeth cleaned when she was 2 and it was really expensive,,so she gets her teeth brushed every day,,,especially the molars.It's almost impossible to get the top of her head evened out because her hair moves around and there always seems to be some hair sticking up,but when i rake her out it is even. I'll guess I need a curved scissors.

Tedmc1 even with curved shears you’ll always criticize your work endlessly and annoy yourself 😂 there is a cowlick in this video I went back and trimmed and it never ends. Haha. I have recently been using clippers to trim under the lips more and to keep hairs from going into the mouth or picking up water. The teeth are so quick to get bad. Have you tried a dental scraper? If tarter accumulates on the gum line a steel scraper will take it off. I do get them to allow me to do it but it does take a bit of patience and a steady, strong hand. It helps a lot. I’ve never heard of the ear product you mentioned but I’m very interested because we are always battling yeasty ears!

@@Edendog Hi, The name of the product is "EcoEars" made by "VetOrganics" It has no chemicals in it I have been using it for over 5 years and it is a superb product.Just search Amazon for it. Virbac CET toothpaste is enzymatic and works really well.I use the poultry flavor and my pup will actually look forward to brushing because she likes the taste of it and thinks its a treat. I learned to use the scissors on the hair above the upper lip and have found that while it makes for a less pleasant appearance it keeps the hair dry when she eats or drinks.I'm going to start trimming mine's ears like you do (Shorter)

Absolutely gorgeous. I have a cockapoo called teddy and i groom him myself, he isn't keen on having his face done (at 6) months.. How did you combat it and how long do you spend on a full groom on her? Would you suggest doing it in parts to make it easier on the dog etc? X

Angela Melvin sorry I took so long to reply, I do recommend doing just 30-60 mins a day and as many days in a row as it takes to get it done. That way you’re not exhausting you both!

I’m super happy I found your channel I have bathed and scissored my 11 year old cockapoo through out the years, but since the groomer is now closed because of the lockdown I have to shave him for the first time and I want to get it right ( even though my husband thinks this will be a disaster lol. I ordered a kit from Andis called the “Easy Clip Groom” and a new comb and curves sheer kit 😬smh hopefully this goes well do you have an email maybe I can send you a before photo and get some guidance 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Do you ever use clippers on the face? Like when you can “scoop” around the eyes?
@Edendog
@Edendog 5 жыл бұрын
I do sometimes, but I don’t every “scoop” around the eyes. I don’t like how it looks. And generally clippers look terrible when used on the face unless the dog has a super curly, forgiving coat like a poodle. If you use them on a silkier coat it looks all choppy. But there are definitely times I just want to finish the darn job and decide to be less picky 😂 it is definitely WAY faster to just run some clippers gently over the face. Just make sure they are NOT hot at all.

BenevolentAutore a good groomer is worth their weight in gold! Tip them well 😂 they work their butts off! My hat is off to professional groomers. And people who shear sheep. You think a little cockerpoo is bad you should try a goldendoodle 🤪 your hands ache after just one! Maybe all that shedding isn’t so bad after all 🧐

Kept losing the sound. I thought the scissors with the curved tip had to be held away from the dog instead of the way this groomer was holding them. Far too big too.

I groom my own dogs at home, so I don't have the pleasure of an array of expensive tools, gotta use what you've got. As for the curved scissors, you do not hold the curve away from the dog, you use the curve to help cut a round shape, but you can flip them to either hand and either direction to get what you need done. Tools are there to be used in whatever way works best for the person getting the job done. While there are useful techniques that help make a job faster and nicer looking, you can't really use a tool improperly unless what you're doing is going to cause a safety concern or actual physical damage to the tool. Otherwise, be creative! Make the most of what you've got! Not everyone can afford more than one pair of $400 shears. And that's ok!

I found this very difficult to watch as those scissors look very sharp and pointed , one wrong snip could take a chunk out of the dogs ear and around the eyes did also not look safe. Also teaching ppl at home who have no experience, to cut around a dog's face like this and so many other videos I see online are so difficult to watch, safety comes first and there are lots of tools one can use that would not do harm like these huge and sharp scissors could do, please think about the potential harm that could come to a beloved pet when advising the public on how to cut their pets hair, I could hardly watch this. I say this with respect, thank you for reading 🙏

What line of Kenchiis are you using?
@Edendog
@Edendog 4 жыл бұрын
Isha Kochhar I actually don’t recall. They were a gift from my children and I’m pretty sure they only picked them because they’re pink and covered in poodles. Most of my shears are low/entry level professional though I do have a few mid range pairs. Ive tried a lot of the cheap shears from amazon but they’re a crapshoot. Often they don’t line up and don’t stay screwed on the tension knob and hurt your hands because they aren’t balanced. Good shears are worth the spend.

For the tighter poodle-curl-type coat on cockapoos, do you proceed with the same face routine? I realize this cockapoo is a smoother coat, but I ask because I want the full face look for my poodles, and most traditional groomers do face/snout shave (continental) by default, which in my opinion is a disservice to the beauty of the poodle, because it can be rather stunning with a full face. The continental cut has turned many people off from owning poodles, in my opinion, because the dogs end up looking much less attractive than they possibly could. I am feeling like if a "full face" cut can be done with a tight-coat cockapoo (or labradoodle or goldendoodle or many other poodle crosses) then it can be attempted with a poodle. Am I right? I will study this video any try it out on my dogs!

Farm Mama I do a teddy bear cut on both my cockapoo and poodle, and both look just as cute. I also prefer the full face on a poodle, but I’m always surprised at how often people confuse him for a cockapoo or doodle, I just don’t think his personality or character would suit a shaven face and top knot, he’s too boisterous. 😅

Farm Mama I know I’m late to reply but check out the channel Shu and Tree She doesn’t give any instructions but you can see how she does the cute round face on poodles regularly, and other small mixed breed dogs. I love to give a poodle a nice round face, too. I agree the standard clips are so unattractive and the poodle is such a handsome dog. They are one of my favorite breeds and they just don’t get the attention they deserve because people think of them as ridiculous and expensive because of the maintenance of those clips.

Has this groomer never heard of blunt rounded tipped scissors to trim around the eyes. I found the whole thing very scary even when trimming around the edge of the ears, scissor length was far too long and she was not holding the edge of the ear where she was trimming.

Stella Berrelly safety scissors are not necessary when you go slowly and know what you’re doing. Though I recommend them for beginners. I didn’t have an arsenal of shears at my disposal, they are quite pricey, so we do the best with the tools we have. I do always use safety shears on puppies and new trainees. But it’s pretty common to use normal tipped shears on a dog you’re comfortable with. Also I ALWAYS feel the ear with my fingertips to the end. I may have edited it out for time. I will go back and look because that’s usually something I speak on every time I do a video where there is verbal instruction. I’ve been grooming for a long time and I’ve not yet had an injury, except a few times to myself with some right sharp shears. Though injuries happen, I go VERY slowly because I’m not on a time clock in someone else’s salon. So I don’t need to get things done rapidly. Sorry that made you wince, though!!
