I always did the grooming of my dogs by myself. It was hard, but at the same time I learned a lot and created a sens of trust and a great human/dog relationship with them. I can relate so much to this. Bear show us all the good side of having pets in our day to day life. You stop the time, and you just switch the mode: taking care of a being with love and compassion. It's really cute but the yawning is a sign of I don't like what is happening and the licking is a sign of you're too close I'm uncomfortable but I trust you and will submit so please don't hurt me. It's not that he's scared of his Dr Mike or anything, he's just letting him know hey this isn't fun I'd rather not but if you insist I will because I trust you. Too many people miss dog yawning as a sign of discomfort and then are the first people to go Hey this dog big me without warning. No he warned you, you just missed it.

As a vet student, seeing Dr. Mike treating his cute dog so well makes me really happy! You'd think that's common sense, but as someone who already works with domestic animals, human negligence to animal can really be stressing. Last week there was a poor dalmatian that died from having too many ticks. And it wasn't even his tutor who took him to the clinic, but actually the housekeeper. For a dog to die of ticks, it only means his tutors simply ignored it for too damn long. Animals really don't deserve this...
@Silver_wind_1987_

Wait ain't tics expensive to treat??? How do you ignore a dog? Like that!
@namisplace
@namisplace Жыл бұрын
@@Silver_wind_1987_ if you take care of your dog as you should, they are not expansive to treat. But with negligence, everything can double the price, as your dog has a high risk of passing away.

How can that poor dog get into such a state? Seriously some humans should not be animal owners. My dad was vigilant about giving my dog his worming tablet and flea/tic ointment, had it on the calendar and everything. I usually brushed the dog, but he wasn’t the biggest fan so did little and often. My dad would clip his nails, but as he was an all black German Shepard, it was hard to see where the end stopped so he had a few trips to the vets with a broken claw, and the vets would cut his other nails as well. (Sometimes it’s better to admit defeat and get professionals to do something). My dog had a ‘shower’ with a hose in the garden when he got stanky in the summer, and if he’d been in the fields, my dad would check for any tics etc. I thought we were doing the basic minimum but apparently not.
@Silver_wind_1987_
@Silver_wind_1987_ Жыл бұрын
@W Mari I know. But we give our dog her flea and tick treatment. Heck she's due for a checkup soon. Ah the dreaded vet visits...Harley didn't like one vet he was a door knob and acted nervous around our dog...which made harley nervous and this absolute dumb@@@@ wanted to muzzle our dog for no reason. Mind you give her carrots and she's your best friend.
@sophieirwin3497
@sophieirwin3497 Жыл бұрын
@@Silver_wind_1987_ my dog was such a drama Queen at the vets…until the treats came out. And he was only muzzled once because the vet wanted to see if he could fix the nail whilst my dog was still awake/slightly sedated and knew someone could get hurt….let’s keep the need for stitches for both human and drama queen German Shepards to the bare minimum 😂

a maybe weird/cool curiosity: you can actually spin and knit domestic dog's fur into a wool like cloth, its called Chiengora, looking at the amount of fur bear lefts after bath i'm starting to think it would be a great business to make his own fur based mechandise 😆

Hi I’m a dog groomer! I think this video is amazing at showing at home grooming. The only thing I would recommend is different brushing tools only to save your time. I find it’s much faster using a slicker brush, a deshedding rake, and a metal comb (for checking your work) is the best for brushing out super floofy dogs like yours without taking hours (I made this mistake too before). I also find if you can hold the dryer and brush gently at the same time it helps removing some fur. Everything you were doing (especially with blocking the blade from the dog with the dematting tool) is correct and great I just figured I’d share some time saving techniques with you 🥰❤️

I’m a dog groomer and this is one of the best home grooms I have ever seen. Well done you. I do have a few tips if you want to make it even better and safer than it already is: 1) Get a deshedding tool, I would recommend the equigroomer. This will pull out so much more dead hair without damaging his top coat and leaves beautiful results! 2) When you trim him, instead of bouncing the scissors, keep your hand nice and still. This reduces the risk of injury to Bear, reduces fatigue for you and creates a cleaner cut. I’d also just invest in some cheap but decent doggy scissors! Other than that, I honestly can’t really fault this groom at all. Home grooms terrify me, as we see the aftermath of the irresponsible ones (deep lacerations, major rashes and infection, severe matting because people only brush the top coat and shave downs on dogs like newfies which should only be the absolute last resort), so seeing this groom was lovely 💜 You’ve clearly invested a lot of time and money into ensuring Bear is well cared for and that you have the correct knowledge to groom him. Seriously, well done from England 💜🐾

Dog groomer here. You shared a lot of good info that I often teach my clients and new groomers. A couple of recommendations to make that easier on you. Stretch you back before and after grooming a newfound on the floor! Use the mat breaker & brush BEFORE the hair gets wet. Upgrade your brush (Big G slicker brush by Chris Chistensen) & use conditioner and a demat spray. - changing your shower head will probably get you better water pressure. Great dog handling skills and Good Job to Bear!🎉

As a dog groomer/teacher I really hope you see this and it helps make things even easier for you. Try a Chris Christensen coral brush. It’s great on thick coats like Bear’s. Also the razor blade brush is meant to break mats to make them easier to brush. If you use it too much you can cause more matting to occur. I have other tips too (especially with those scissors), but for an at home job you didn’t too bad and I’m happy to see you take such good care of him ❤

I have a female chocolate newfie named Sophie and she's pretty much the exact same with grooming (except for the ears, when I have to do the actual liquid wash in them she runs away from me). I used to use a dremmel, but then I found out that she'll literally just stand there and let me clip her nails without any fuss (we always played with her paws as a puppy). She does also love to eat the toothpaste. We like to call her a micro newf though since she's only between 100-110lbs (also very lean and muscular, so very healthy). I love seeing people who know how to groom Newfs well!

It's in his biology! Newfoundland dogs were historically bred to be working dogs for fishermen. In addition to the oils in their fur to give them some degree of water resistance, they also have webbed feet, are extremely strong swimmers and generally love all things water. They are still used for water rescue today. Newfies are also typically very calm and chill dogs in general, and are great with kids.

You shouldn't be bathing your cats anyway... Cats are very clean creatures who clean themselves, and unless there is something in their fur (like they've rolled in grass and smeared a dead slug across their fur) then there should be no need for you to groom your cats. OR unless your cat has a case of fleas, OR is VERY old and unable to groom themselves. Cats are desert creatures, meaning they originate from a place with very little water, and take it water from the food they eat. Bathing simply isn't a concern for them, and can actually be detrimental to their overall long term skin health (cats can easily react to shampoos and soap - even pet safe ones - and it can cause severe dry skin) Brushing your cat is fine and actually recommended for older/longer haired cats because older cats find it harder to groom.

@@Somecollegekid4525 It's not necessarily that simple. Most small dogs that have a terrible reputation are, while due to the limitations of their brain sizes not the smartest dogs, but definitely not given enough credit. The problem is, look at the average owner of a small dog. It's a Karen. Karens don't think they have to train their small dogs because they're small, they can't harm anyone. So they bark uncontrollably. small dogs like Pomeranians actually react really well to training and it's upsetting that people just think they don't have to bother because of the size of their dogs.

Being introduced to a big dog that sweet, chill and well trained will help you get over the fear. When I was younger I disliked ALL dogs. Their barking scared me and I always assumed they barked out of aggression and I simply just never got exposed to them as none of my friends or family had pets. My mom took me to visit and old friend of hers and they had a huge Rottweiler that scared me as soon as a saw him. But he was so gentle and cuddly! He was the first dog I pet, he would follow me around then just lay next to me. I left the house wanting my own dog. I think I was 11/12 years old and since then I’ve always felt comfortable around dogs and they tend to gravitate towards me now
