I have nothing but respect for these two. Talented, hard-working, musicians doing what they love and making close to nothing for it.

We're almost in 2020 I'm demanding to know why hasnt Jim Croce and Maury been intraductal in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet these are too intelligent. and very talented singer-songwriter musician that deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Thank you for posting this video to KZbin! It's hard to believe, but he and Maury died over 48 years ago now. I fell in love with Jim Croce and his music when I was just a child. I was only 11 years old when he passed away, but his music has shaped my life ever since I first heard it. True story, my older sister got the "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" album and would play it all the time. I would hear the first notes of "Operator" and would come barreling into our shared bedroom, hyped up to hear what I thought was the song, "My Maria". At first I was bummed out to have been tricked, but after awhile Jim's songs grew on me. He is still my favorite artist, ever! Thank you for sharing this video with the world!

This song brings a lot of tears to my heart...toward a long lost fiance who left me before we were married. This is as difficult to listen to as it is beautiful, as every word strikes to my soul in my world of depression.

KCET is based in LA; the pledge number listed on screen has a 215 area code, which is Phillie ... and his stories are great.
@MrChrispy77710 жыл бұрын
That aired in the Lehigh Valley (about 60 miles north of Philly). That number and area code are for PBS Channel 39, (Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, Pa.)
@mercfan749 жыл бұрын
+59dhl There are a lot of questions why the show is identified as KCET but had a Philly area phone number toward the end. At that time, individual PBS stations produced their own shows - then shared them with the affiliates. So it was common to see shows produced by WNET, KCET, WQED (Mr. Rodgers), WGBH in other viewing areas. This show aired during a pledge drive for WLVT.

+mercfan74 ah cool. didn't know about the shared programming. Makes perfect sense now. Great show and great losess, too, both of Jim Croce and Maury Muehleisen. That combo was dynamic, and the stuff Maury does on an acoustic guitar is just awesome.
@mercfan749 жыл бұрын
I actually talked to him on the phone once. My older brother promoted the concerts at his college and he called the house to get directions to the school. I was 14 at the time and wasn't very good at giving exact driving directions but I could read a map. He had one on his end and I walked him through it. I just had to get him from Philly to Northern NJ. Then I got to see him at that show. He was just as nice on the phone as you see him on stage. I was really upset the morning I woke u and heard about the plane crash. It took him a long time to get where he was at that time but he was just getting started in a way.

+mercfan74 wow that is awesome! I too was devastated abt the plane crash. my favorite performer. watched 'im whenever I knew he'd be on TV - Midnight Special, etc. Didn't know anything abt muelheisen then but do now. tons of respect for his arrangements and playing. he gave croce his unique sound.

I like the all wood guitars better than the Ovations. Not only more of a woody sound, but more definition between strings. The Ovations have their place, though.
