Unreal. May be out of line saying this, but Maury Muehleisen's licks are almost as iconic as the lyrics & melody. Just so crisp and great. What a great player he was.

I 100% Agree!!!! No other artist can do that like Jim and Maury !!!!! I love every song by them, Jim wrote about his experiences. And sang from his heart!!! It upsets me they didn’t give him an award until after he passed, his wife accepted it!!! I’ve been listening to them for 52 yrs and never ever get tired of them. Love every song but some of my favorites are ,Time in a bottle (which was sung when I walked down the isle in 1978), age, speedball tucker, operator, working at the car wash blues, photographs and memories, You don’t mess around with Jim…….. I could keep going but I would be here all day!!!!

My father took my sister and I to one of the summer folk festivals outside of Philly and I was so lucky to have met Jim Croce there. And be in the audience. Somehow I found him standing outside one of the tents and did my absolute best to flirt my 10 year old ass off. He was so charismatic and you would think - because of obviously non-vogue model features - you would think he would have come off as ugly. His sparkling eyes, his deep voice, his musical magic - I was so in love. His plane crashed within a few months of that summer festival. Still in love.

The commentary between the songs make this. The songs are wonderful, which is what brought me to listen. But the moments where Jim is talking make me think he could have been a musician or a comedian, or a trucker (he seemed to like that profession) or ran for public office. He's so down to earth and real, I wonder what his opinion on the current state of things in America would be. We need guys like Jim in America now. It's a shame he was taken too early.

It's crazy to me that A.J. Croce was only 2 when Jim died, yet he has Jim's soft-spoken manner and many of his gestures. There is another posting of this tv special where Maury isn't even mentioned. Jim Croce teamed up with a perfect guitar player. Maury was/is a true master of acoustic guitar. I wrote to Maury's sister and got 2 CDs of Maury. His one and only album and a demo set of the early recordings. Ironically Maury sings a song declaring "I'd love to sing you another song, but I have no time". Maury was aboard the plane with Jim and crew.

I saw Jim play a few times, and his stories were always as welcome as his songs. One I remember is that he said he'd played a lot of bars, and things often got out of hand when the drunks started fighting. That's how he learned to never wear his guitar strap - at a moment's notice you had to be able to grab your guitar in one hand and use your other hand to jump over the bar when the bottles started flying. There really hasn't been anyone like him before or since.

Sure do. He was great performer. Loved His music. Even my kids love His music. Wish I could write music like this. My husband and I fell in love at the same time and his music too. My kids learned it and loved it. Now all I have are bittersweet memories. Cause my husband passed away. This song reminds you have times have changed. We used to live switchboard operators, public pay phones were ten cents. Nobody destroyed them til much later in the 90's. Sure miss those days. Good times, good people.

Awesome - my first concert, Jim Croce opening for Poco in Boston maybe 72, he was larger than life to me. Wish he was still around . . Maury was a great talent also. Great vid - thanks

That must have been a memorable show. My dad was stationed at Fort Dix with Jim Croce back in the 60's. My dad said he was a funny guy.

I really think Jim's stories sound more polished in this LA concert than on some previous recordings of his tall tales. Very entertaining.

the 1st Jim Croce album i bought was about 1974, may have been this album, cause i sang about every word of all these songs......and learned to played a lot of them, from a song book i bought- played teh album a lot.....Jim is one of my heros and was one of the people who inspired me to write songs, Jim Croce-JOhn Denver-Kris Kristofferson- my heros....1st song i ever wrote was about 1986.... still writing and playing some....need to get out and perform, that really makes me feel liek im doing something I was made to do...maybe that is my next song....

Another interesting selection. Thank you, Jan, for searching for talented and eclectic artists. Jim was one of my dad's (who would be 100 now had he not passed away at 69) favorite performers, especially 'Bad, Bad Leroy Brown." My dad and Jim left us way too early. Thanks for the memories.

My Brother and I played his 8 track to death that summer. When I hear Jim I'm 14 and I got it all in front of me. I have heard Operator thousands of times and as soon as he started it my ears perked right up. I agree Jim was special. I hope to see him in paradise.
