As a tip on ground beef, I always buy in bulk and I cook 5 lbs at a time and freeze it ahead of time. I freeze it in 1 lb packages. I also do this with chicken if I find a deal. I will cook up 5 lbs at a time and dice it.

We do this as well. I'll go to Costco and buy 4 or 5 rotisserie chickens and a 3.5 kilo bulk lot of beef or lamb mince, whatever is cheapest. Then I will remove the meat from the chickens, make stock and reduce it right down and freeze it, cook the mince and freeze it in sandwich bags and separate the chicken into sandwich bags. We get our veg from the local market on the day they sell the rejects, and I can't go to both in the same day.

I was just letting people know the other day ground beef has gotten so expensive that even the cheapest ground beef in my area which is 27% fat 73% lean is four dollars a pound and I live in Kansas City Missouri. However, a side tip and a trick as I walked over to the frozen food section at Walmart and got their 20 count. Great value hamburger patties. They are priced at $1.99 per pound making 5 pounds of ground Beef Just $10! Not only that their quarter pound hamburger patties, having no seasoning on them or anything else so it’s basically like perfect portion hamburger and 4 ounce sizes! I do know with the higher content and fat. They will shrink a little bit but it’s the best way for me to have gotten ground beef lately and I use those patties by chopping them up once they’re thawed and adding them to spaghetti, making tacos with it, adding it to my chili, and any other ground beef recipe I need to do I use these great value, 20 count beef patties for! I don’t know anywhere right now that you can get 5 pounds worth of hamburger for 10 bucks other than the method that I have discovered, and been sharing on my channel and wanted to share here as well, especially with this being a ground beef recipe 14:21

@AwkwardStinkerbelle Жыл бұрын
if you don’t want to use canned soup, you can make your own 😊
@FreezerMeals101 Жыл бұрын
Is the canned soup specifically you're wanting to replace? Or the mushrooms? You could use other cream soups that you like... Celery, cheddar, etc. Otherwise try sour cream/whipping combo and some spices and see if that works for you. This might be a trial and error sort of situation. As the other comment says, make your own soup and try it.

This is a great video about using hamburger. Because I can buy 8 10 lb rolls of hamburger where my son works which is cheap per pound. But have you two ever thought of recipes to use ground up chicken? I was gifted 30 lb of ground up chicken and 30 lb of onions that I chopped up diced up and put in freezer bags. Do you have any ideas on the ground up chicken I can use the diced up onions from the freezer in anything I cook or make.
@FreezerMeals101 Жыл бұрын
We actually have a fair amount of recipes using ground chicken because we are often able to get it for a great price. BBQ Chicken Sloppy Joes: freezermeals101.com/bbq-chicken-sloppy-joes/ Thai Chili Chicken Lettuce Wraps: freezermeals101.com/thai-chili-chicken-lettuce-wraps/ Ground Chicken Stroganoff: freezermeals101.com/ground-chicken-stroganoff/ One of my favourites is Ground Chicken Taco Meat where you just cook up the meat, add a splash of olive oil and taco seasoning. It's great in tacos or on nachos.
@evelynincanada Жыл бұрын
I would like to request a stroganoff version without the canned soup. We have gluten and soy issues. I've made my own cream-of soups, but I'd love to try one that passes your taste tests.
@FreezerMeals101 Жыл бұрын
That would be lovely, wouldn't it? I have a feeling it would entail more cooking ahead of time, such as making a roux with flour and butter. It's doable but extra work. Having food restrictions definitely makes it tougher to adapt, hey? We'll keep it in mind! Thank for watching!

I can't cook every day, and even when I can, I can't do it without assistance. Auto immune issues, chronic pain and vision impairment get in the way. I have chronic uveitis so I'm slowly going blind. I still chop veggies, though, even though there was that one time I cut off the tip of my thumb! My dil helped me bandage it and cleaned up afterwards, bless her.
@chandratobolaski1249 Жыл бұрын
Oh my goodness!! Glad you didn't loose the whole thumb! Be careful beautiful!! Maybe you can get yourself some gadgets where you don't need a knife.
@angelawossname Жыл бұрын
@chandratobolaski1249 no, it was a one off mistake, and it healed up fine. Also, I'm not going to let go of yet another piece of my independence. I'm going to keep chopping veggies. I don't use a cleaver any more for meat, I use kitchen shears instead, and that was my compromise.

@FreezerMeals101 doing a freezer meal tonight. I said to my son "we have orange curry, teriyaki chicken or honey mustard chicken. Choose". He chose the teriyaki chicken. The orange curry is basically the same as your red lentil curry, but we also add carrots and sweet potato or butternut pumpkin. It doesn't actually have oranges!

Is there a way to substitute lentils or beans for the ground beef?
@FreezerMeals101 Жыл бұрын
I think you could depending on which recipe. For every single one of these particular recipes, I (Sharla) substitute Yves veggie ground round which is a soy based meat substitute for the ground beef. I prefer to "brown" it first even though it's already cooked because I find I prefer the texture that way. I've heard of lentil based spaghetti sauces and for the chili, you could just add more of the beans and leave out the beef (although the Yves Mexican ground round tastes amazing in this chili).

Tater tots are supposed to go on top of the meat mixture NOT mixed in. Tater tot casserole is the iconic MN dish. This version is so bizarre.
@FreezerMeals101 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Our "usual" tater tot casserole has browned ground sausage on the bottom and the tater tot mixture on top. This beef and veggies version is a nice occasional change though.
@kari-gs4eq Жыл бұрын
@@FreezerMeals101 After I posted I realized I could have phrased that more nicely. Traditional recipe is ground beef mixed with cream of mushroom soup, most mix veggies in (my favorite is green beans). Then top with tater tots and bake until tots are crispy brown. Cheddar over or under the tots are optional.
@nadinefrandsen6087 Жыл бұрын
We make it either way at our house. When making freezer meals we sometimes place the tater tots it’s own bag and place a cheese-filled sandwich baggie inside of the tater tot bag. (So could be 3 baggies). Hope that make sense. Then this recipe can be layered. And of course there’s the other option of using a foil style casserole dish in the freezer instead. Lots of options💗
