Ground Report | 'Get Us Out': Jobless Haryana Men Duped Into Joining Russian Army

Amid acute shortage of jobs in Haryana, a lot of youth from rural areas in the state are taking up menial jobs in war-torn countries such as Russia and Israel. We met families of two such young men in their 20's, who went to work in Russia but were deceptively enlisted in the Russian army and forcefully sent to the frontline to fight Ukraine. While one of them was grievously injured, the other has not contacted the family in over two months. They fear he has been taken a Prisoner of War in Ukraine. This is their story and the story of 100s of young men from Haryana who find themselves in dire states only because there was no work back home and they wanted to earn a livelihood.

Successive Indian govts. are responsible not just Modi (am anti BJP). When plane loads of Indians were expelled from Uganda, Mrs. Gandhi refused to let the plane land at Delhi with the Indian citizens mostly Gujaratis. British Govt. were forced to grant them asylum. Even today the UK govt. have huge problem with Indians overstayers and Modi refuses to take them back. Home Secretary pointed this out to the Foreign Minister Jaishankar. In this report, they didn't mention that any of these people were interested in army-type jobs; they applied for helper or truck driving positions. Therefore, I don't see the relevance of that issue. Am and Indian migrant too who chose to live in the West purely for social reasons. Left India in the early seventies and there were Agents who charged huge fees to send them illegally to the Gulf and the West. Not a new phenomena has been going on since the 1930s. My main problem is why do Indians living in extreme poverty have children. Have no food but still have more than enough energy to breed. Not rocket science 2+ = poverty=degradation=desperation=death.

Due diligence is required when getting jobs abroad and especially when employment contracts are not in English. Ministry of Foreign Affairs needs to intervene in this case and strict legal action needs to be taken against fraud scam travel agents who dupe innocent families in the hope of better life abroad. Bhai sab log please soch samajh ke papers pe sign kiya karo. Baad mein pachtana apko aur families ko padta hai. Agents apne paise leke bhaag jage hain

Am and Indian migrant too but this trade in Human lives has been rife since the 1930s when my mother left and in the 1970s when I left India. Our office boy in the Gulf told me that and the British firm I worked for all knew that Indians were paying people traffickers. About being rescued by the Foreign Office is a dream as people trafficking of and by Indians is now disguised as "Tourism" The Guys on camera said they were tourist to Russia in the -20 degrees Russia without any language. Plane carrying Indians were deported by France and recently by Caribbean tourist without a return ticket. So FM is more than aware of this as the UK govt. too has informed them of Indian overstayers. Hope your dream comes true.
