Grounded Will Sadly Not Get a Sequel

I think Grounded would be one of the few games that would be a good candidate for a sequel for these reasons: 1) Grounded development was stunted because of console hardware limitations, this isn't true for like any other game and it would give the devs on Grounded 2 so much more room to add good features to the game, and add more polish. 2) Grounded still has more content potential. Besides the storyline, there are so many more opportunities to add in terms of content to the game. There are SO MANY species of critters they could add to encounter, and there are also environments they never got to add in Grounded like a cold, indoor, or a deeper underground section besides the undershed. 3) Grounded still has more potential in terms of its combat variation, as most attacks involve parrying only. But this could be expanded into attacks that show a weak point or attacks in which you have to move out of the way instead of parrying. This is a whole lot more reasons than any other game has to justify a sequel.

One thing I have to say is: "IT'S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY SPIDERMAN" In other words it's COMPLETELY possible that Obsidian Entertainment will make a sequel regardless of whether it makes them alot of money

It is all about the money for Microsoft who owns Obsidian. They won't be making games that don't make money anymore.

If 100000 people are keeping gamepass to play grounded that's making them 1.5 million a month. And you have to factor that they are sitting at 35 million subscribers. This game and every other game on gamepass are making them a mint.

​@MediocreMilton you can always buy games that you want to support, but expecting people to buy games they can already access with a subscription isn't really fair. That's essentially paying twice, and unless Microsoft funds the game's development with the intention of putting it on gamepass, devs don't have to include them, especially as day 1 releases.

I don’t have much hope either since Xbox is closing studios right now. I supported the game by buying it on Xbox and on my PS5. I even bought it for my siblings. Maybe if the devs start their own company and make a re-imagination of the game. That would be cool too.

Feel like they’re missing a trick.! They should just bring out grounded 2 but not on game pass… it clearly has a massive following and they could almost guarantee that they would sell around 10-15 million copies.! Especially if it hit around 20 million players before it came out on PlayStation… 🤔 🤷🏿‍♂️

How would it sell 10-15M copies when most people only played it because it was on GamePass? If the game was not on GamePass it would not have had 20M players. The game sold around 2M copies on Steam. It likely sold a fraction of that on Xbox/Windows Store on PC. Survival games are niche and very few will sell 10M copies.

Grounded sold 2.2 million copies on PC alone and $56.2 million dollars. G2 is a real possibility

Hi-Fi Rush sold more than 2M copies and MS shutdown the studio. MS doesn't care about $50M over the course of 3-4 years. They want a game that will make $500M in a year.

Grounded 2 can totally happen and with the full release of the game it now has many fans that would be totally down with a 2nd game. Grounded 2 could do so many things with the game like having it be inside the house for a change.

I hope Avowed is good it’s my second most anticipated game this year after Jurassic park survival, am definitely gonna buy it unless it has a horrible launch/reviews. Also did outer worlds sell well?

problem is even indies are having trouble securing funding now days and many small studios have closed and we never hear about it. things are going to get a lot worse across the industry i think.

I disagree with points in this video and think that it's misguided in saying that microsoft wants to have developers not put things on game pass. Without diving into the details of the deals that gamepass gives developers and just sharing anecdotal evidence about Mircosoft shifting course I just don't feel like this video is hard evidence that they are going away from gamepass or really says too much believable stuff. Thanks though gave me things to think about.

MS owns Obsidian so they would not be getting any deal for making games. Let's see if the new CoD is day 1 on GamePass and how much focus they put on GamePass during their showcase in June. If they keep GP going it's going to get a price increase and/or new releases will not be day 1. They are leaving too much money on the table giving away all their new games for "free" on GP.

You have to think as a day one gamepass release that they are measuring the profit metric in gamepass subscriptions sold. There are countless people who will see a game on gamepass and subscribe based on just a couple titles. High player count is exactly what Microsoft is looking for as when they release on gamepass they are renting a game from the developers for the ability to add it to their library.

Kann mir bitte jemand sagen warum ich nichts mehr platzieren kann ich habe mir eine große Platform gebaut und wollte die Beete darauf platzieren. There’s a bug that has yet to been fixed where things can’t be placed next to each other really well. I think it’s because things are counted as bigger than they.

If grounded made a sequel, I would 100% buy it. The gaming market is flooded with overrated AAA titles, and I believe that grounded did just what they needed to do to get their name out there.

Its possible they're trying to get a feeler before they give the go ahead to make the sequel by getting it on all platforms and seeing the performance. Also by not being able to see their numbers of games sold does not mean there's none it just means that info wasn't shared. Finally your restaurant metaphor was kind of weak and not at all similar with many big factors

I love Grounded’s aesthetic and would have been more than happy to see a sequel even if they reused assets. A bigger map and deeper story, a few more bugs and such and I would be satisfied.

I played this game from inception. countless hours. It got me to subscribe to game pass ultimate. the problem isn't funding. it's just, well, it's time for the story to end. the devs are adding stuff for the sake of adding. it's unfortunate in some way like fallout. I'd say to someone "you should play this" but it's not new. i was happy there was and ending, but it was sad but it needed to happen.

I believe Microsoft said it would be a franchise, i couldn't be sure though. I also think it had to do with the release date. It started gaining players around when people were transitioning from xbox one to xbox series. So, nobody with the newer gen consoles wanted to play a game based on outdated software adapted to the older gen (unreal engine four i believe) i love grounded, i'll always support it, but i think they are losing money with the updates. The 1.4 update was based around Ng+ and most players won't experience it, since they are casual.

The only games mentioned by Sarah Bond in xbox latest showcase thingie was Candy Crush and Minecraft. Microsoft only wants games who reach 100 millions players. If a game hits 5 million players its a failure in todays stupid economy.

Jadecraft had the community manager in his stream and they were asking him a bunch of questions but i noticed he was just dodging the question or giving weird answers. Paralyser who was also in the stream asked if they would improve the faction reactivity since it happens so randomly and you don't really know what bugs you annoy. The community manager responded by saying that they didn't need to change it and the manager was just making terrible excuses. He joined knowing they were going to ask questions but basically sat on the fence and didn't tell them anything.

My hot take: the entirety of gaming needs to stop pursuing money. Good games will naturally profit. Systems like SBMM & EOMM along with strict deadlines, creating forced & rushed projects. 90% of the game creation industry is too focused on manipulating profitability with inter-game algorithms & annual releases. Gaming needs rework if it’s going to see a future.

I agree. Good games (or any product) will sell but putting them on a sub service will kill the sales. There are too many sub services now as seen by the plateauing or decline in growth by just about every one of them. It's time to go back to selling new games. Let the sub services be a catalogue of old games like how Nintendo does it.

i feel like xbox needs to stop chasing money and let these little companies do what they want. Grounded had a nice little community that slowly grew and it would have had a lot of support for future games and who knows what they could do with the series. Survival games just need more profitability and more recognition rather than just canceling them because they don’t make money. Rip grounded 🥲
