Thank you for saying how/why the temperature rises when dissolving the lye and for explaining what the 'trace' is. No one in any of the other video's did this. It all becomes clear.

when I lived in California, everyone wanted vegan soaps and was grossed out by tallow or lard. Now that I live in Texas, everyone loves tallow soaps, lotions, and balms.

I love tallow soaps, beef and bison as well. Your soap is so beautiful 😻. I use ice cubes or frozen milk or AloeVera juice to dissolve the lye and avoid the fumes and the waiting time

I made a basic lard soap because I had not made soap in decades. I gave it to some coworkers. Two of them had eczema, and extremely sensitive skin. No adverse reaction. I had no idea, they were severely sensitive!

Is olive oil and Avacado oil interchangeable?
@daydreambeliever66032 ай бұрын
The animals still have to be dispatched to use tallow. That does go against the values of being vegan, doesn’t it? It does make beautiful soap, however😊
@GroundedHavenHomestead2 ай бұрын
True, but animals aren't typically killed for the tallow and lower value cuts - they are a byproduct of the expensive cuts that animals are raised for. If that industry isn't going anywhere, the byproducts will always exist.
@koltoncrane309927 күн бұрын
Daydream believer Here’s the thing. People that claim they’re awakened or that we’re all one etc they become vegan to not kill animals. That’s fine. But plants are alive too and just as connected to the universe as animals and humans. Trees and fungi communicate. You could just be like a religious person or a spiritual person and just be grateful for the plant or animal that died for you to give you sustenance. Native Americans some claim they give thanks to the animal spirit for offering up their life or body. That to me seems much more logical or rational to be grateful rather than avoid eating animals but still killing plants to eat. Yes plants may not have a nervous system but if people believe we’re all inter connected like plants in theory should be as connected with everything as animals. It did make me wonder.. the movie seven years in Tibet Brad Pitt works with the dali lama. The lama makes Brad Pitt dig up and move the earth worms so they’re not killed. The Dali lama doesn’t want to kill bugs since you may reincarnate as a bug or everything is inter connected. But then how can he eat plants since technically that’s taking a life. It’s like do you kill ten thousand plants to sustain you or do you take the life of one steer that will sustain you for a similar amount of time?

Hello, and thank you for that step by step, did you have to cover your soap loaf while it was curing for those two days?
@crunchymountainmomma9 ай бұрын
Should it lather as you do clean up? I followed the precise measurements and your fantastic directions, but clean up was still greasy, so to speak.
@GroundedHavenHomestead9 ай бұрын
It is a bit of a messy cleanup process. I usually try to wipe up whatever i can with paper towels before washing with water, and that helps a lot!
@chellsgram9 ай бұрын
It takes a couple of days for the raw soap to cure enough for the oiliness to be emulsified, after which any soap remnants remaining in the mixing bowls or on utensils will lather a bit when washed with water. It took me a little time to realize this but once I did, it was a game changer! Since I was making only enough soap for my family, I had time to set my mixing bowls & utensils aside in a storage room for a few days before washing them to make cleaning easier. Once the soap remnants have aged a little, you can wash the utensils with plain water since the utensils are already coated in more than enough soap to clean them. And yes, it will produce some lather at this point, though not as much as when the soap has fully cured. An added benefit of waiting to clean the utensils is that the longer you wait, the milder the soap will be on your hands. Raw soap is very harsh on skin, but the longer you allow it to cure, the milder it becomes. Hope this helps.

Thanks for taking step by step. I think I can do this. I'll let you know how it turnes out. You made it look so easy. I am going to use some muffin pans instead of buying soap forms. Just in case I never do it again

Great tutorial!! I make lots of my own stuff from scratch but now I’m looking into making my own soaps. I want to keep the fat from our deer this fall and render it for tallow to use in soaps! Quick question(s). Instead of olive oil can you add any oil that has been infused? Like calendula infused with avocado oil? And after the soap is cured, what is the best way to store the unused bars and approximately how long will they store for? Thanks again for this video! It was a definite confidence boost that I can totally do this :)
