How to brew with a Cuisinart Drip Coffee Maker

Hello.. My Cuisinart, occasionally "spits" and the mesh filter backs up and I get grinds overflow. I clean at least once a month. I'm brewing only a 4-6 cups at a time? This has become more common. Not a happy camper.. Any suggestions?
